How early need to reserve a train if I have euro rail pass?, is hostel comfortable and safe for couple to stay ? choose hotel or 2 hostel beds cheaper?

I have been looking at a 90 days trip and my research shows that buses are cheaper for short distances , eg 2-3 hours. LOL, seems that bus about is suspended for 2023!

Living off €45/day in Western Europe would be tough, but totally doable in Eastern Europe!

Many budget interrailers use couchsurfing which saves a huge amount on accomodation
