I feel for this guy. Yes, he may have been young and not know about the legal issues and distribution- but that shouldn't be a reason to take advantage of new artists...but unfortunately it is, and it kills dreams and trust.

Another great, in-depth interview! The raw deal on a very important aspect of the business--business! Film Courage: does the legal work aspect differ greatly for a screenwriter (maybe you already interviewed some screenwriters and have a link?)? Thank you. You guys always know how to ask the right questions! I also appreciate Aaron's openness about finances. I think with his continued effort, growth and better results it's a lesson for us all. I certainly hope he does more than break even!!! PS: Kyle Howard had a role in Electric Love? Awesome!

Despite all the learning that I had acquired from great KZfaq channels like this one there really is no substitute for making your own movie. I learned a lot after spending $40,000 of my own money then making only $400 back on a distribution deal.

I had my film on STARZ and Netflix (S. Africa). It’s called, ‘The Other Side’ (2018). UMC gave us the most income. It’s a streaming service.

My fiancé had Goodbye World on Amazon and I believe his other film Bunraku there too. From what I understand Netflix is the best company you can make a deal with.

I think that filmmakers ought to open their own theaters to show their films. Treat it like Broadway plays.

You can hire a cinema if you negotiate directly.

Four walling a theatre would need you to have about 50 paying customers to break even for a showing. If you can get 100 people into the theatre for each showing, you could break even on your indie with a hundred shows... good luck with that. A solid 3 showings mid-week with >100 paying customers could make back your catering budget and that is how you have to think. I would suggest offering free tickets to anyone who worked on your film to help pack the audience- getting a lineup before the doors open would get a few people to roll the dice on your film rather than the Hollywood film that everyone and their dog has already seen.

Lmao. Something's seriously wrong here. There's no reason for anyone to wait for two years to get paid for their movies. That's insane. Your first ACH payment should never ever take more than six months to hit your bank account once a sale is made through your distributor/sales agent unless, you do that infamous 2 year deal with a company like Netflix. This is of course after assuming that you have all your deliverables ready for distribution. It makes me sick to my stomach to see people being taken advantage of by distribution companies. Unfortunately some of the distributors rob Peter to pay Paul and that's the real reason for the hold up when it comes to pay YOU, the actual person who did everything in this partnership.

I’m still waiting for the movie I was in to be released. Not sure where it will be distributed but it’s called “The Kiwi” and it’s a comedy about disc golf. I play a Mr Miagi like character named Scooter 😂Biggest thing I’ve done so far.

It'll be a little corny but in a good way. haha. I didn't really know too much about disc golf until I booked the role. It's a pretty fun game.
