I didn't even know that this show existed. Who thought this would be a good idea? It's so gross that a billionaire is talking about how sad she is because buying a new house only brings her joy for a few minutes and how she always feels like she's left out of things because she was the "weird one" - cuts to her just sitting on the couch looking at her phone. How qUiRkY!. Like.. stfu. She has enough to money to actually change the world for the better but she hoards it like the Hobbit dragon and whines about being homeschooled.

I completely agree with your choice of Bojack horseman. I think the reason why the first couple of episodes show themselves as more of a standard adult animated TV show is because that is how Bojack sees it. the ongoing joke in that show is how Bojack is “the horse from horsing around” and that is how he sees himself until things get more deep in later episodes and seasons.

I think the only measure complaints I have with barry is that some scenes the characters are there "just because", at times it doesn't feel like the story built it self enough in order for them to be there to feel satisfying. Also at times moments that should be impactfull aren't as emotional because the story feels like it's moving too fast. But outside of that the show has probably some of the cinematography I have ever seen in a show period and most of the humour lands

@AqibA.C.
@AqibA.C. 3 жыл бұрын
I know a lot of it is open to interpretation, but I don't feel like that's exactly how BoJack sees it, more that not confronting his actions and past in a way that allows him to move on and really make something solid for his future is what makes him feel like such a bad person. It's like the thing he says at the start of _Stupid Piece of Shit_ "But I know I'm a piece of shit, that at least makes me better than all the pieces of shit who don't know they're pieces of shit. Or is it worse?" It really isn't all that clear cut in any way, which I guess is why so many people (myself included) love the series so much, and connected with it so deeply.

TBH literally anyone of any age can be cruel and in some places adults are frequently mean towards children with it being either accepted (ugh) or considered purely individual on the part of the adult, there is no "adults are mean" saying yet that's how it often is. People always say specifically that children are cruel as if it's a specific characteristic of children. Plus it's way more risky for children to be cruel towards adults (themselves cruel or not) than towards other children but if they live in a place where adults are regularly mean to them and it's socially accepted, they might need to let some steam out and do it like this or just not even realize that it's mean. I think the saying just makes the thing worse by making it seem as if it's inherent to childhood and not, like, contextual and personally this kind of ideas about children and teenagers affected me negatively when I was one but also just led to adults being more cruel and feeling entitled to it because of confirmation bias of their beliefs that kids were mean/insolent/lazy/... even without the kid being particularly assertive. I know both my assertiveness and my passiveness were picked up by adults as more reasons to see me as bad because I was young, just no way to win. But I've definitely seen people just internalize this and think that they were bad and deserved whatever came their way.

@Meg_intheclouds
@Meg_intheclouds 3 жыл бұрын
@@maxens_is_here that is true. Anyone can be really cruel. when I use that, I’m talking about my own experiences with kids my age and how they have treated me in the past, but also then talking about benevolent adults in comparison (like talking about why I’ve always found it easier to talk to teachers than kids my own age), it isn’t really me making W generalisation but referring to the treatment I’ve had in the past from kids my own age. However if I was comparing a mean adult to a nice kid (which I do do) I will say “adults can be cruel”. Both statements are true but kids are mean, and adults are mean are not mutually exclusive statements, both can and do co exist. It just depends on the context you are saying it in, that dictates which is relevant. But if people make that as a generalisation of all kids without acknowledging it happens outside of childhood, then I agree that internalisation of that is bad and gives adults a sort of superiority-complex. But I think the term itself, when grouping experiences, or trying to refer to trauma ect, I think that is ok.

Such great writing, and daring to stray so far from the norms: That underwater episode where he becomes a parental custodian for a day and there is _no speech:_ The only other thing I've seen that was as bold as this was the deaf person episode of _Master of None_, which actually eschewed all sound during the deaf segment, IIRC. The episode that was all a single eulogy monologue, "Free Churro"... For a visual medium, especially a cartoon, that was quite daring, too. _Bojack Horseman_ is something special alright. It's the cartoon equivalent of _Louie_

I really enjoyed it as well. Have there been newer episodes in the past few years? I cant remember how many seasons there were about 5 years ago ? "Posting a selfie is hard because it's a lot of pressure." Gosh, Kylie, if only you and your entire family quit deeming what beauty should look like by all getting the same body and face, maybe there wouldn't be so much pressure.
@thicc_astley

when she was complaining about the pressure of selfies being perfect i thought “yeah, that’s a valid problem and i feel it, but it’s not a problem YOU have.” and you make a good point - not only is it a problem that she doesn’t have, it’s a problem that she directly contributes to for other people. kylie and her massive influence are a massive part of why girls have unrealistic beauty standards of themselves, and thus why they feel pressured into looking perfect. she’s the one who spends tons on plastic surgery/top dermatologists/diets etc and then pretends that the average person can look like her just by buying shitty face toner and laxative tea. if anything, if kylie put out photos of herself looking any less than flawless, it would do a lot of good because it would reassure everyone else that looking less than flawless is okay. sorry for the rant lol but that line of hers just really got me

@@isabellamorris7902 totally, i’m sure they still feel pressure to conform to beauty standards - probably amplified by them being in the public eye and with so many people looking to them for beauty tips. i just think it’s ignorant of kylie to act like she has the same experience of pressure to be perfect as, say, one of her average teenage followers who can’t afford anything beyond makeup and filters to alter their appearance. i’m guessing she mainly said that thing about perfection because the producers told her she needs to appear more relatable, and i’m sure she experiences that pressure to some degree, i just thought it was disingenuous

@@isabellamorris7902 they contribute because they advertise beauty and diet products like thats what got them to where they are. In reality people don't look like that without plastic surgery. They have done studies and their skinny thick look is the worst body type for giving people body complexes. I think its because its literally unobtainable naturally for 99% of people regardless of what you eat or what exercise you do. The surgery for their butts also have a very high mortality rate. So they are at fualt for selling a completely unrealistic beauty standard.

To be fair, I seriously doubt that the showrunners of the house vs. wedding show were actually going to fully pay for a house for any of those couples. The choices as presented sounded more like "we will either help you to organize the wedding of your dreams, or help you to locate and bid on the house of your dreams, but the cost is up to you." The fact that "mortgage" is in the title seems to indicate that they wouldn't pay it off in full at the very least, even if they helped pay for some portion of it. Still, not my cup of tea, and, as you said, a very poorly timed show. Interesting list. I've been meaning to watch Succession for some time now and may watch Bojack Horseman as well, given all the glowing reviews. And my sisters seem to enjoy High School Musical: The Series, at least. Good stuff!

bro the way i love bojack horseman. Tuca and Bertie was made by the same writers i believe and has a similar theme with heavy topics like SA, anxiety, childhood trauma and familial pressure while intertwining it with goofy animations of animals and a boob running away. One of the main themes is feminism and the experience of growing up as a girl but even if you can't fully relate there's so much more to it. We see a main character get into an unhealthy relationship, but we see it from her perspective, where you're rooting for them until it all starts to crumble. We also see it from her friends perspective and it's just a great show. Although not as much death and drugs or inherently bad characters, almost all the characters are inherently good people, yet they have flaws, they struggle with mental health, and it makes you question your own feelings. The 1st season is one Netflix, season 3 just came out and you can watch season 2-3 on Hurawatch for free
