How Much Money Is In My Pack???

2 жыл бұрынI've heard it said plenty of times that "hiking/camping is a cheap hobby". I've often wondered if that's true or not or if they're just saying that as a comparison to more expensive hobbies. So I decided to add up the value of all the gear in my pack and I was shocked at what it the total was!

Not cheap, but maybe *relatively* cheap. If your hobby was snowmobiling? $2500 would maybe be your gas bill at the end of the season lol

Lol very true! I’ve had a few friends try to get me into sledding over the years but never got me to bite. FYI most of them have sold their snowmobiles because of the cost. Lol

Yeah, it can add up fast however it's also possible to get your Big 3 for a few hundred, certainly under $1,000. Great video to illustrate how the dollar value of 15 to 25 lbs on our back :) Like any hobby, there is a range of pricing to get started. Buy a pair of running shoes & start training for a marathon. You can get a set of golf clubs, dozen balls, glove & shoes for a few hundred then pay to play. You can buy a side-by-side 4-wheeler for several thousand then pay trail fees, maintenance &, yes, fuel to run it. For me, I'd rather walk, run or cycle for recreation. All in all, hiking & camping is quite inexpensive esp if you use your gear & look maintain your equipment.

Very true. The big 3 are your biggest concern and where you should spend your money. At least to start lol

Maybe about 1800$+ that's not including kayak, shot guns, or fishing gear which I never leave home without
