Car Detail Pricing is a loaded question and depends on a few factors. Low prices get you the nightmare details, never have a set price. Set a base price and clearly add with that (based on condition and list specifically what's going to done and any upcharges for hair, headliner ect.

So Josh promotes the inexperienced to come into our industry to undercut the experienced competitors without the proper knowledge or insurance for that matter… only to undercut us and do a bad job… RUINING THE TRUST FOR THE NEXT DETAILER…. Josh, i get it. You want to get paid via KZfaq… and that explains why you are more so on here than actually out there on the field. Content creating is hurting the industry and these videos are supporting it. I guess when clients slow down… KZfaq is always there. Pitiful.

Just for kicks, I live in San Diego too, but as of now, I'm just a weekend warrior, if that. I'm older now and really out of shape. Don't know if I can get healthy enough to do this professionally, but thank you so much, for everyone involved on this site, for all the great info you're giving out. First time I see you on KZfaq. We are busy now for 6 months. Invested in everything top edge and more. Did around 120 cars in total. Lot of it was dealerwork. @@simplenipple I dont clean cars i work in the building industry but enjoy having my vehicles clean all the time. I had my garage set up for wood working tools and that is what i do, but ended up building a shed for all my woodworking tools and now im setting my garave to be astetically pleasing with car oriented stuff for the looks only, my detailer charges me about $250-$300 weekly to keep me happy, i have a 19 denali a 21 mazda cx9 gt and a 22 cx9 carbon edition and they stay slick and clean always

@@simplenipple i have been the general manager of a few large building material companies, And now have moved to the steel roofing materials as a career progression. It has been a busy season for the last 5 years and the pay range is in the 6 figure salary so i cant complain about that

Hi Josh, great video filled with info! So I’ve been a detailer for 4yrs since I was 18 & just got my own business started late summer & am still having some trouble in setting prices. I only run my business on the on weekends & also do detailing full time to help pay for stuff in the meantime. So I’m curious since mine is a weekend business so charge a little bit higher then I am right to pay for stuff or keep prices where they are at right? I have looked in my area too & there’s only 3 detail shops in my area but I’m the only one that’s mobile. Majority of all big detail shops are down in Minneapolis/St. Paul & looked at their prices also. Mainly needing some of your info to see what you think on if should charge more or not? My prices are about in my area also

Just cause it's made in the USA (which not all strap-on are) doesn't mean im paying 5x than something made in Taiwan. And if Harbor freights are better than the strap-on one,which you yourself said, what's the issue? W for harbor frieght, and I got it for 14$ with the 30% off coupon 😂😂😂

that's crazy. South Florida details range fron 60$ to 125$ for a full detail inside and out. I'm not sure who can afford to pay 200 dollars just for interior cleaning every time they get their car cleaned.. that's outrageous. I fully detail, polish and wax vehicles for 300$. my business Ive started to acquire only clients with new cars that want me to keep them flawless and I do a quick clean inside and out for 60$ every week or two. add wax or sealant protection only when needed. these clients call me back regularly. I finish the job in 1 hr 15 min. so 50 60 dollars an hour not bad at all. of course if I do accept a job on an older car v that needs tons of work. I'll tell them straight up. it'll be more than double the price the first time...or that I definitely won't get to everything that needs attention and that will get addressed over the next few washes. great videos Josh. thanks. stay cool brother

@@joelpasserell4525no website yet hopefully soon. I scored medical buildings and know landlords of shopping plazas where I can post up and detail. I give the landlords a free detail for letting me make money at their plazas. the key to everything is to go to your existing customers and say hey listen I thank you for your business but believe we can help each other out. you pay me 200 per detail. how about I do 2 details a month for 300 325. you save them 75 dollars but know that thenext cleaning is going to be soo easy because you just did it a week or two ago so is earlier for me. most of my clients jump at the offer. and it's a win win. i knock out the detail in 1 hr because I clean them weekly or every two weeks. keep it simple unless customer asks for some crazy service or polishing, ceramic coating. I offer an suv price 120. and a sedan price 75. one full inside n out detail. leather and upholstery cleaning I tell them I can do it but it will be another day and a charge by itself. I used to have everything possible on hand and different pkg deals but said forget it. I'll just keep it as asy as possible and noone can be confused on prices or services. make the process easy and clear simple and not always have to have tons of tools and chemicals. every day. charge what you think you're worth. and help out people who you know need it . do a great job and you'll grow through referrals and enjoy what you do easily. also schedule early am and late pm. instead of noon. and save your health and harder work in the sun

It's all about the quality of your work and if you can back it up, you can attract the right customers. My packages start at $220 for the most basic inside and out. I'm in FL.

Josh, Someone with a reg. size car and want's your Complete in/out Detail, looks like they would pay only $90 more(299-209) than your Basic detail but would be getting a full clay, an extra stage of paint correction, paint sealant applied, full carpet shampoo treatment, leather conditioner. Does your $100/hr cover you for 2 guys on a car or 1? I'm trying to see how one guy could do all that extra in an hour. I would think just the shampoo would add at least an additional 30-40min. right there and he's still have to do the full clay, correct and seal the paint & condition seats.

Regarding reviews and something that didn’t really get touched on. I personally wouldn’t care as much about what their website looks like. You can pay someone to make a nice website, but your reviews are based on your quality. So to the company with the nice website, but a 3 something review average…. Not getting anywhere near my car.

Hi Josh, first of all thank you for all the time you spent making us better detailers. I have a ❓ I did an SUV today that it was extremely dirty. The car has embedded dirt on the carpet that it was possible to clean it with just vacuuming. My package includes vacuuming the car but not scrubbing, but is I didn't scrubbed the carpet would look terrible. What do I do in a case like this? Do I charge more? Do I tell the client right away? Thank you .

Yea I always look the vehicle over with the customer before I start and give them a best and worst case scenario especially when they don’t want to pay for a more extensive service

Was looking around and noticed under the "About Us" section in the part "A Few Words from the Owner" there were a number of typos and grammatical issues. How a far of a radius do you travel? I'm in the biggest town of a pretty rural area, but if I go out a 50 mile radius I can increase potential clients by 50%.

I showed my kids the other day thinking they would think it was cool. Turns out I was more excited to play with it than they were lol. Completely unimpressed

How often do you run into the issue of “why is my detail $299? So and so’s was $280 because you didnt shampoo their seats and mine weren’t that bad” or similar situations by knocking down prices?

$300 for a full interior detail with 2 stage polish?? In SD?? That is dirt cheap. I don't understand how you're making money lol. I charge $220 for a full exterior detail minus the polish which includes a basic interior detail. I'm ocd and a perfectionist so I charge a lot and attract the right clients. For $300 I may add full shampoo to that. But $300 for basically top of the line service? How do you do a full interior detail with full shampoo with the exterior done and 2 stage polished/waxed in 3 hours. That would take me the entire day...

I think he said he does it himself with Wordpress - I just made one myself and it takes a bit of time to learn to use it but once you get going it doesn’t take long at all. The templates on wix, word press, go daddy are all super good and easy to follow along. I know lots of people who use word press and wix. I went with wix cause it’s a lot easier to learn and good value on subscriptions for the domain etc.

How is your basic detail more than an Interior detail tho?? Shouldn’t it be the opposite…. Interior details for takes me anywhere from 3-5 hours Properly done. Basic around 2 hours max

My pressure washer is gas powered and rated at 3000psi @2.5 gpm.....does the higher PSI affect foaming or is it the GPM?

Both affect foam, gpm can output more product quicker, the pressure created the foam, 900 to 1300 is all you need 3,000 is over kill unless your doing mudding trucks.

@@dustin3700 thanks....I bought the pressure washer for cleaning cement patio, walk ways and sidewalks....perhaps a good electric one with slightly lower PSI might do the trick and easier to use

You don't need an LLC, but it can help protect your assets. I got insurance from a company called RLI for a very reasonable rate

Many people have a general liability policy but that doesn’t cover any damage to the car if that were to happen. Garage keepers liability is needed and many people don’t even know about it

Fast food, meal prep at home or a combination of both also snacks? Could you give any tips off the top of your head. Definitely don't want all my earned money going to restaurants.

Right I charge $405 for a car and that's a full inside and and out with steam cleaning and shampooing with a iron remover and claying along with a all in one polish from rupes using their Uno. I figure if I'm going to mar the paint I might as well use a all in one unlike just using a sealant. Full on 2 step that's $300-$500 range with just a sealant ceramic infused or not which ever.

That’s correct, again I base things on a perceived hourly rate and that job typically takes about 4 hours. I’m a little bit old school and my first step is usually with a rotary and then the second is with a da. I’ve been doing it that way a long time and I’ve been able to get my speed and process down over the years to get a fantastic result. Again not a full correction, it’s similar to a 1 step enhancement with some deeper scratches leveled out before hand as I go over the vehicle with the rotary and use it to focus in on the deeper damaged areas.

@@imjoshv Love it Josh.. a paint enhancement on steroids but not a full blown 2 step traditionally. I like that combo, better cut with the rotary and fantastic refinement with the DA. 💪 Heck with the technology of compounds and polishes now a days they are light years from the 80s and 90s 2 steps and 3 steps.

Absolutely! When I first started out I was using a cyclo (remember those? I think rupes bought them and I’ve been thinking of getting another one for old times sake). But I always had to do a 3 step with my cyclo, although like you said with the new compounds and polishes that could probably be cut down too

@@imjoshv Yes sir! They acquired them about 6 or so years ago I remember seeing those brush attachments that could be using on leather or fabrics seats.. now the trend is using drill brushes

I learned a lot from this channel and usually enjoy the content but wow….you’re going to skip a step in a customers vehicle just to knock off $20??? If I was that customer I would tell u “No…. for $20 off go ahead and shampoo the seats, because I can’t do that myself for $20….that’s why I’m paying you. If you advertised steps 1-10 for $299 why shortcut it? Regardless if u think “it doesn’t need to be done” the whole point in having your vehicle detailed….is to have it cleaned & sanitized with equipment the typical customer does not have (steamers, hot water extractors, brushes, solutions, etc etc). Your entitled to run your business as u see fit but it’s not advantageous to customer to skip a step for a small amount. If we’re going to be skipping steps, then what separates us from the local hand car wash? Guys I’m not trying to be disrespectful here….I was not expecting to hear something like that come from a professional detailer. I never seen Larry from AMMO NYC or Mitch from The Detail Geek skip a step.

I completely agree. Wow a whole $20 bucks off - I'd never hire the guy again because he didn't complete what we contracted for.

@@d.t.1470 I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees it. I’m not trying to bash Josh, but it blew Me away when I heard him say he’ll skip a step for $20 off. Isn’t the goal to “over deliver” for your customer? (to quote Scott from Dallas Paint Correction). And this guy is going to participate in a “training seminar” with Wilson from WAD? Not skipping a step or taking a short cut is what separates automotive detailing from your local car wash….take pride in your work/craft, don’t short cut it is all am saying.

I definitely understand your point. But I always do things for the customers best interest and the best result for the car. I am always honest with my customers and if when I walked the car with the customer once I was done and they mention that they still want the extraction done, I would explain my thought process, but if they still want it done I absolutely would. I always walk the car with the customer and dont leave till the customer is happy. Depending on the type of seats injecting water can cause issues. For example on some f150s if you sit on them with wet shorts (which I see a lot from people after swimming) they can cause stain rings. If you do a full extraction properly it shouldn’t happen but just an example. Again many of the cars I work on are in great shape and if I wouldn’t do it to my own car I’m not going to do to a customer vehicle. I like to treat every customers vehicle as my own and my customers respect my opinion because I see all situations day in and day out. Most of the time I’m not working on a farm truck or a Ferrari that hasn’t had a wash in 30 years which absolutley warrants everything possible being done to them. But like the paint of a car, you always want to do the least invasive process to achieve the results you want. If you can achieve perfect paint just with polish you would never color sand and take down the clear coat if you don’t need to. I like to carry the thinking to the interior as well. I definitely understand your point of view, and I can’t say I completely disagree. I have so many customers that o do a repeat after these 17 years and they trust me. Also many of my customers are handled at their location since I do a lot of mobile jobs. So saturating the seats when they don’t need it and then having them have to sit in damp seats (if they need go go somewhere immediately)is unnecessary, even though we do dry them out as much as possible they can still have a small amount of moisture in them. I will still steam the seats but there is no need to for a full extraction to pull out stains if there are no stains. I should have mentioned that I do walk the vehicle with customers before to let them know exactly what to expect as a final result. Technically on my pricing i show it on one line as “full steam/shampoo treatment”. Before steamers we’re so prevalent many detailers would call a shampoo a steam clean like in home carpet cleaning because the heated extractor would steam from the hot water. So still going over with the steamer is faster and less invasive and gets the result. I do the discount at the end as an added benefit to the customer. If it saves me time I pass that on to savings for the customer

You literally have no idea what you're talking about. The customer is paying for a specific result, and 9/10 times you can achieve that result without going as aggressive as soaking the entire carpet and seats. The customer always ends up happy because they end up with the result they paid for. If a carpet doesn't need to be shampood, and you can deliver the results in a more efficient way, that is BETTER. If Josh were to shampoo seats unnecessarily, then the customer would have to deal with a having a wet car, and wetting theirs clothes, and dealing with condensation, etc.... When you actually run a detailing business, you will understand

@@yeissertoyota4169 the irony in this statement has me laughing: u open up with “I don’t know what I’m talking about” and then claim that if Joshua shampoos the carpet & seats “unnecessarily”…..then the customer would have to deal with “a wet car, wetting their clothes, and condensation”…..yeah because it’s impossible to wait until the vehicle is dry before returning it to the customer right….?

Lose your connection with Luke Wilson . He's a joke! He gleans all of his knowledge from YT videos. Every video he puts out drops after numerous respected detailers release videos discussing a particular topic. His info is often wrong and contradicts the instructions on the labels and equates to misinformation. The worst part is the number of followers he has that consume his bullshit and trust his videos for guidance. Do yourself a favor and distance yourself from him. His name has become a punchline in detailing forums. And he talks so fast you have to believe he's on meth. You're too good at what you do to have your reputation tainted by someone that shouldn't be allowed to be giving advice on this or any topic. Keep up the good work brother!

Go into your areas Facebook group. Upload a post about what you do, should get some people in. Best advertising is word of mouth 😆. Clean your friends car and that friend someday might recommend you to his friend and so on

@@verduzcoautodetailing3183 oh yeah I've had that type of situation as well 😔 i even went down to 40€ for the guy and he still didn't respond or anything TWO TIMES 🤣. Other week i cleaned my grandpa's car and his friend noticed it. Next day grandpa called me and said my friend wants his Porsche and BMW cleaned 😁
