The NASCAR schedule is a huge point of interest for just about any NASCAR fan. Unlike other sports the venue in which a NASCAR race is held at always makes a huge difference in who runs well or poor and who also may create memorable moments. For a long time in the 2000s and the 2010s the NASCAR schedule was stale, boring and extremely repetitive; but over the last 5-6 years NASCAR has done a tremendous job in fixing this issue. So today we look into all of it. Today we look at how NASCAR revamped their schedule.

The irony of the same fans and drivers that have spent the better part of a year telling anyone who will listen that the NextGen is a dangerous car wanting the Brickyard 400 back when the racing is completely overshadowed by tire failure induced borderline head on wall hits at >180 MPH like Erik Jones & Denny Hamlin isn’t lost on me. Eagerly await everyone remembering why the Brickyard 400 died the first time when we go there next year.

Exactly my thoughts and here's why... Most NASCAR fans are extreme... one end or the other... it's love or hate and very little in between. We love these cool events for a couple years till the newness and the buzz wears off and then we hate it. For examples look at Indy, Bristol Dirt, Indy RC, and Charlotte Roval. We yell at NASCAR for tears about not enough or too many short tracks depending on which way the wind blows.... So a city street road course is cool.... we all pretty much liked Chicago.... but do it 3 or 4 more times and that buzz will wear off and we'll hate it. But a rotation between maybe 6 or 8 cities with 2 hosting every year.... I think cities would be more open to the idea of shutting down every 3rd or 4th year instead of every year as well.

Ironically with how the gen 7 races the racing product would be better with the mid 2000s-late 2010s schedule but I’m still glad Nascar has made it more interesting. There are new tracks that I don’t think were good additions like the Indy RC but there are some new tracks that have been enjoyable like Nashville. Overall my only major complaints with the modern schedule is too many RCs and some new tracks like the Charlotte Roval and Bristol Dirt feel like gimmick tracks and have both ran their course already
@andrewesau51
@andrewesau51 Жыл бұрын
I'd personally say there are too few road courses. And I'm not a new fan. I've been watching since I was still in diapers pretty much. And I'm in my mind twenties now. So I grew up watching in the mid 2000s and the 2010s. I was watching when they moved to the COT and to the Gen 6 car. Every time NASCAR went to a road course when I was a little kid it got me so hyped. I loved Infineon and Watkins Glen. I've been waiting for the day that NASCAR has 8-10 RC on the schedule. I love oval racing too don't get me wrong. I love short tracks especially but there are so many wonderful road courses in the United States it's a shame that Americas most well known racing series doesn't race at most of them. I don't think RCs should make up 50 percent of the schedule. NASCAR is a oval track series mainly. But 20-30 or even 40 percent of the schedule I would be super happy. Places like VIR and Mid Ohio. Road Atlanta one of my favorite race tracks in the whole world. Laguna Seca. I was so happy when they were racing at Road America. I liked this Chicago race I'm just disappointed it was at the expense of Road America. Anyway that's just my perspective as a life long NASCAR fan who wants more Road Course races. People like me exist I'm sure I am not the only one that would be impossible.

This new schedule really does have something for everyone now. I agree when you say that the diversity showcases every driver’s strengths to make the environment more engaging and unique for fans to experience as well. While some of NASCAR’s schedule changes in the past have been controversial (North Wilkesboro booted, Rockingham booted, Darlington shortened to one race, Brickyard 400 going away), NASCAR in my opinion has done the right thing in recent years. The Southern 500 back near Labor Day, North Wilkesboro coming back, uniques road courses like the Roval and COTA being added in, adding Gateway, and taking big gambles with the Los Angeles Colosseum and the street course those changes have all vamped up our sport for the better, in my opinion. My hope for the next season is that the short track package is improved greatly. We deserve better results from places like Martinsville, Wilkesboro and Bristol than we’ve had this year. If Rockingham is the All-Star race host, and Wilkesboro comes back full time instead of Dirt Bristol, and the Brickyard 400 comes back, I will be a VERY happy fan. I’d also like to see Montreal come back as well. I’d like to see how it would handle Cup competition for once. Overall, even though I know not everyone will agree with me here, I think schedule wise, we are heading in a good direction.

I agree with everything except that the short track results haven’t been good. They’ve been the same they always have. Only difference is that the rest of the tracks don’t suck anymore so the short tracks don’t look as good. Short tracks have never been the most popular except among the true core fan base in the Carolina’s going to their short tracks every week. In fact there’s even more passing on short tracks now than there’s been in like 10 plus years, and everyone LOVED the short track racing with the last car. Don’t get me wrong though, I hope they do make changes to improve the racing, cause better racing is always appreciated.

As an F1 fan in addition to NASCAR, I have to say that NASCAR's schedule is much more interesting than F1's & credit to NASCAR for making the changes. The big issue with F1's schedule which has been a problem since the mid 2000's is that they are hell bent on adding races in the US and other wealthy markets especially in the Middle East while removing races in the hotbed of F1 Europe & not adding races in South America or Africa. F1 only sees the dollar signs when they add a new race & they don't think about the long term viability of that event because what usually happens is that the attendance falls of dramatically after the first race. A good example of this was the Indian GP. In terms of future schedule changes for F1 that I want to see, the German GP (at either Hockenheim or the Nurburgring) needs to come back & replace Miami on the schedule while Jeddah can be replaced with a second race in South America in Argentina (which is one country where F1 would do well in) or Chile. The Vegas GP can be replaced by the South African GP at Kyalami marking the first F1 race in Africa since the 1993 South African GP. Lastly I would like to see F1 experiment with moving the US GP from COTA to the Daytona RC and see if F1 cars can handle the banking.

I've had to state this numerous times, but screw it, I'll say it again. NASCAR fans can never make up their minds with the schedule. Years ago, everyone hates the 1.5-mile tracks and want more short tracks and road courses. NASCAR does just that, and everyone hates it. The short-track racing sucks, and the road course races are messy, and suddenly the 1.5-mile races are amazing. So now everyone's asking for LESS short tracks and road courses, and MORE 1.5-mile races. Indianapolis Motor Speedway has gone from one of the most DESPISED tracks on the schedule, to the one that fans are BEGGING for a return the most. They're even asking for Kentucky to come back. Y'know, the same track the people were applauding NASCAR for getting rid of? And now there's suddenly a change of heart? It's honestly unbelievable that we've gotten to this point.

I've never stopped watching NASCAR from the time I started when I was a small child who barely had the ability to comprehend what was going on right until today. However you're right. Ever since the Next Gen car, despite what a lot of Debbie Downers say, NASCAR has made a huge improvement the racing is generally great, there is tons of excitement. The interest in NASCAR outside the core die hard fans is growing like wildfire. They actually have interesting stars with personality rising to the top. They have tons of talented young drivers and rookies coming in with huge potential. They're trying new stuff and the new stuff is working, for the most part. NASCAR is exciting and relevant again. Even though I never stopped watching I am definitely more invested in it than I was before. My investment was slowly starting to fade away before the last couple two or three years came and totally revitalized my love for the sport.

The schedule changes are one of the biggest reasons NASCAR’s doing better and presenting a better product. Road Atlanta, Mid Ohio, Laguna Seca, VIR, Sebring, Willow Springs, Barber tracks such as those. I'd even Axe the COTA date and give it to Road America. Give it to the more historic and more interesting RCs that we have here.

I love these type of videos the best from you. For me get rid of one of the races from Kansas and replace it with Chicago land. While keeping the street course even though that’s not my preference that way everyone’s happy. Are used to hate this but this past weekend wasn’t bad at all. Bring Back Rd., America if you’re going to keep the road course at Indianapolis, I will have a doubleheader weekend with the brickyard 400 the Nashville fairgrounds would replace the Bristol dirt race, Phoenix will only be once a year in the spring same with Las Vegas. North Wilkesboro and Cota should be in the playoffs along with Rockingham Martinsville should be the championship race. Richmond should be at night for both races. I think the Nashville fairgrounds should be a Saturday night race while keeping the Nashville superspeedway the class or come back to Daytona, and the duels should be during the day on Thursday like they used to be and cut them back to 125 miles. The night before the Daytona 500 run the clash only 50 laps under the lights like we used to do in the early 2000s that would really solidify the lineup.

The schedule is fantastic in its current form. There definitely could be even more changes to it to add a number of tracks to the schedule, kinda don’t need two dates at a lot of the tracks like Atlanta, Las Vegas, Kansas, and even the 3 short tracks Bristol, Martinsville, and Richmond especially since the thing that hurts those 3 with seating is the fact u have 3 tracks all within the same region to get fans to go to and doesn’t help when the 3 other short tracks fans want and r in talks with NASCAR r all within the same areas as the mentioned 3 existing tracks. But removing current second dates for many tracks can definitely lead to keeping the schedule diverse and unique compared to the other major racing series in the US or around the world. Like or hate NASCAR itself, the tracks on the schedule, the points system, etc. ya can admit the schedule is about the 1 cool thing about the sport with the different tracks they run and can do more. Granted I will admit things do gotta change with the cars a little first to make some tracks race better which to me is more just confined to add more horsepower and less weight, but that’s talk for another time. As for what else NASCAR could add or do to the schedule, I think until we get the Fontana short track we move NASCAR to either Long Beach for a second street course race, though we’d have to sacrifice waiting for Montreal to be on the schedule since I do agree with 2 max of street courses on the schedule, or go to Monterey at WeatherTech Laguna Seca for temporary time. A race in Europe, since there’s no major ovals in Europe, aside from Rockingham UK, so it’d definitely would have to be a road course, I say 3 that would be good races would be Monza, Spa, or Silverstone. And something that I think would be cool to see is NASCAR do a little point to point race or hill climb like Pikes Peak or a TT like Isle of Man or Targa Florio for example. IndyCar had their own thing at Pikes Peak Hill Climb for a while, would be cool if NASCAR did the same. Give a little appreciation to just the cars. Would be cool deal to have every NASCAR sanctioned series run all together and give em exposure, or have 1 race non points where NASCAR does a Multiclass race. Weather it’d be Cup, Xfinity, Truck, or ARCA around Daytona, Talladega, Pocono, Indy, or Michigan, or the 4 mentioned plus Pinty’s, Peak Antifreeze Mexico Series, and Euro Series as well as possibly NASCAR Modifieds and Super Late Model Tour racing around Road America, COTA, the Nordschliefe, or Spa.

Well, I understand that the NASCAR schedule has gone through a lot over the years, from tracks like Kansas and Las Vegas getting a second race weekend to Kentucky being added to the schedule, Darlington and Atlanta hosting two race weekends again while we've seen Chicagoland and Kentucky being taken off the schedule and North Wilkesboro returning this year to host the All-Star Race. Also, there's talks of the Brickyard 400 possibly returning next year and Circuit Gilles Villeneuve up at Montreal in Canada being added to the Cup schedule next year. However, I still have my own opinion on street races. All-in-all, in the end, the schedule's been through a lot of changes and there's no telling what might happen, so goodbye!

Certain tracks should be annual: 20 Races Daytona (2 times) Talladega (2 times) Watkins Glen Richmond Martinsville Bristol Charlotte Las Vegas Darlington Atlanta Homestead-Miami Kansas Michigan Gateway Nashville Phoenix COTA Road America Rotational Block Scheduling: Group A: (12 Races, Every Other Year) 1. Pocono 2. Chicagoland 3. Auto Club 4. Sonoma 5. Texas 6. Rockingham 7.Portland 8. Kentucky 9. Eldora (Dirt) 10. Detroit Street Race 11. Iowa 12. Nashville Fairgrounds Group B: (12 Races, Every Other Year) 1. Indianapolis Raceway Park 2. Phoenix 3. Auto Club 4. Mid-Ohio 5. Dover 6. Milwaukee 7. North Wilkesboro 8. Montreal 9. Knoxville Dirt 10. Burke: Cleveland Airport Track where Indycar used to run. 11. New Hampshire 12. Pikes Peak Move to a 32 race schedule ending in early October. Nascar gets crushed by the NFL weekly anyway. Also, I havent researched how ISM and Speedway Motorsports would fare on their scheduling dates. Some of these tracks feel unrealistic. (Cleveland Airport Track) The Chicago street race could alternate with Detroit. However there's definitely a template to do this. Golf has standard courses they go to annually and other courses on a 2-3 year rotation. Nascar should identify core tracks, going to those annually and move to block scheduling for other tracks and other fan bases in other markets.

They need to be more flexible with rain threatening races if that can be possible. These time slots are making races rain out more and more. Getting races in is more than shooting for the top ratings. Night race’s reserved for Saturday like the 2000s with the exception being the 600 and Labor Day. It just seems like every year the races get rained out on big television days. If anything NASCAR should stick up to date with weather and give all up coming tracks a 3week leeway or something. If weather is looking like dookie a week in advance move in to the next track or next nearest. This tradition of races being on certain days is hurting the sport imo

Drop the championship race from Phoenix and move it to Atlanta would be my first request. Also would prefer to see Chicagoland come back during 4th of July weekend. The street racing will lose its hype pretty quick. (Maybe 1 every few yrs) I vote remove the Indy road course and bring the oval back. Move Sonoma to the "west coast swing". Go to Eldora for the dirt race. I'm 100% down for more Sunday night races!!!

@TheIceberg I completely agree with everything you've said. I also think you just missed one thing. Along with the garage 56 entry, shane van gisbergen's win brings the possibility of v8 supercars as well. I thought about it being pretty cool if during the season the V8 supercars come over for 3 weeks and try an American road course, a dirt, and an oval (rotating years between 1.5 miles and short tracks) and NASCAR goes to Australia for 3 weeks and tries out some of their tracks. Perth, Bathurst and Tasmania come to mind. Nascars announcers announce the supercars races and vise versa for the supercar announcers and NASCAR. Idk I think it'd be a really cool idea of capitalizing on a pretty momentous event at the Chicago street course

The New York City market would be VERY hard to break into. NASCAR tried back in the 2000s with short track plans on Staten Island. Local government and citizens were very opposed to it. So NASCAR ended up canning those plans. As for European races, I'm not sure how it'd work out logistically. Imagine racing in St. Louis, then Le Mans Bugatti Circuit the next week, then Sonoma the week after that then back to Europe at Mugello then Chicago. That's awfully expensive. I know NASCAR raced in Japan for 3 years. But those races were 2 weeks after the season ended

I really hate the term "cookie cutter mile and a half" Just like how people say all shprt tracks are different and have their character, there are thousands of them and only maybe 10 of the "cookie cutter" tracks. If we keepin it a bean, NASCAR's most popular and nostalgic times times like the 90s-mid 10s had a lot of Michigan, Auto Clubs, Atlanta, Charlotte, Texas, and they were 2 500 mile races. In my opinion we need to get back to that.

I have been upset for the past 2 years ever since the Daytona Road Course got removed, it only had a 2 year run, but it was amazing, there was nothing wrong with it, and also I am mad they got rid of Road America, that also only had a 2 year run, but it was also amazing, there was nothing wrong with it. A lot of people will disagree with this, but I don’t like that NASCAR has added a street course, It is just not for NASCAR, when I watched the race, it had no NASCAR feel to it, it felt like I was watching an Indycar race, Trans Am Race, or an IMSA Race, NASCAR’s schedule has been getting worse every year since 2021, 2021 is by far the best NASCAR schedule and the way it looks like NASCAR is headed, we will never have another schedule as good as 2021. The only good changes since then is North Wilkesboro and St Louis.

NASCAR has revamped the schedule. I don't think it's better. If they remove the Chicago street course and replace it with Rockingham that's better. Street course was terrible. Too many road courses. 500 mile races down to 400 miles, I hate that. The current short tracks are terrible. They killed the charm of Bristol to be specific and both Richmond and Martinsville are terrible now. New Hampshire and Dover are boring as is St. Louis. The only redeeming quality of the schedule are the intermediate 1.5 like Charlotte and Kansas to the 2 mile oval like Michigan and the 2.5 mile track at Pocono that I think should be 500 mile races. The championship finale is terrible. If I wasn't a hardcore fan of NASCAR, I wouldn't even watch it anymore. Atlanta being a mini superspeedway was a terrible move. It needed repaved, but not completely changed. Overall the schedule is terrible. I hate about two-thirds of the schedule.

It's really a catch 22 with Nascar fans.... no matter what NASCAR does, we're just not gonna be happy. We botched and moaned about Bristol having 2 boring races, in a time where we kinda collectively hated short tracks. So they gave us Bristol Dirt. And we loved it at first, but here we are a few years later and we're bored with it and want the night race back. Somewhere in there we collectively decided we needed more short tracks and road courses. So they gave us those. And we were happy for a brief moment. But now we're starting to bash to Roval and Indy road course, and complain about too many short tracks. Seriously, no matter what NASCAR does, they just can't please us. Which is why I would implore NASCAR not to ho back to Chicago Street course every year. We're going to see it 2 more times and curse it's existence. What about a street race that rotates yearly over 3 or 4 years? Get a rotation of maybe Chicago, Toronto or Montreal, Denver, Dallas, 3 or 4 places that will agree to hosting every 3-5 years.
