Since this video is somewhat going viral currently (at least by my measures) I want to take the time to thank everyone who has watched and or subscribed - I really appreciate it. This channel was meant to provide entertainment to hobbyists and beginners and not a source of education or promote a new standard of training. That it only took a few content of my alternative coaching craft to get this channel going is really nice to see and exciting after testing the waters on Facebook. Also thanks for all the lovely comments and suggestions. Please be assured that I read them all, although I can’t possibly answer all of you. There is only so many times I can say "thanks" or "thank you" before it starts to feel silly ; ) I'm already working on more content for you but please be patient as I'm working alone.

Newbies on a 21% climb! Amazing. Great job boys & great coaching & motivating. I've been cycling for years but I've never had any training or coaching like this just basically learned on my own & joining some group rides and I use a Bianchi Premio chrome moly bike (has downtube shifters). Some while ago I was able to do a century ride (100 miles) in 10.5 hrs. When I return sa Pinas I'll prob want to sign up for your class. BTW I saw that video of the 60 year old guy and he was amazing. It'll be interesting what you can do with a 70 year old guy like me who survived open heart surgery & prostrate cancer.

Aloha Tom watching more videos of Cruz Control came across one with “Hey Kaibigan” and was surprised with what Coach Cruz responded to the interviewer, he mentioned that all was theatrics and that the main objective was for curing unhealthy people, at first my heart sank but coach went on to say his goal is to help people in life changing situations in which I fit in……..73 years old body aches from old injuries, PTSD from military service in Viet Nam 67-68 and the years from 2005-2014 lost my spouse, my 19 year old who had Down Syndrome and my 90 year old mother in law…….so hearing what coaches remarks were my trust in coaches words retained my faith in both your responses were, yes you were also interviewed, mahalo bro 🤙🏼🤙🏼 I do have services to help with my military experiences and my personal losses in my life but I truly believe bicycling adds another dimension in MY healing, self healing is a life time job again mahalo nui ā me ke akua pu

I am impressed, kudos to your efforts. An avid fan for sure. I am a 62 year old pinoy and I picked up my first roadbike at the onset of the pandemic. I avoided the clipless pedal and shoe for a whole year until I decided I need the right size bike and ended up with a slr6 domane and the fitter said I have to use a proper roadbike shoe to be correctly measured and fitted. I did and never looked back...should have done it from the start. From your videos, I couldn’t tell if your group uses clipless pedals and shoes. I enjoy watching your videos...keep it up!!!

Hi Coach, I used to play basketball and football in my early 30's. I am 39 now. I got an ACL on my left knee operation with 2 titanium screws year 2011 and also developed panic disorder. My problem was If I feel the heart rate raising even if its normal when you exercise, I am having a hard time. I want to engage in biking and regain strength and stamina. Is it possible? By the way, my right leg is bigger than my ACL leg. Sometimes I exerted much effort on the left leg just to train or regain muscle.
@rafaelvelasco411
@rafaelvelasco411 3 жыл бұрын
Same, i've had 3 acl surgeries. Before hindi talaga sya pantay kasi your using your other leg more frequently. You just need to get used to what your doing before not relying on your healthy leg that much. I suggest you also get a PT. Based on exp hindi na sstress masyado ung knees and mas madali mag exercise on a bike rather than mag jogging or running ulit. I am able to play basketball again however mahirap na mag lateral. Hope this helps

@@CruzControlPH Yes Coach, that's all I wanted, to regain strength, stamina and endurance. To live a healthy lifestyle. I am not in competition but I have to test and to overcome these symptoms that I had, to think that I developed shin splints that I didn't run for a long time, strain my hamstring, one leg quads and calf is bigger. I have done my check-up last 2017 or 2018 to Dr. Canlas (Orthopedic Surgeon Sports) He told me that my ACL leg operation was still in good condition. All I have to do is strengthening. He recommended also a type of shoes that has an arch support. I got the shin splinta because I am flat footed. I want to overcome these Coach. Nice seeing your videos and even your students. They're not look newbies! They are all very well disciplined and goal oriented! Hope to join your team Coach!

Hello coach I'm a newbie at cycling and I notice you saying "smallest ring at the front, biggest at the back" but isn't it cross-chaining? I've heard a lot of other cyclists, some are also youtubers, say that cross-chaining is inefficient and may damage your chains. As a newbie, may I ask why you encourage them to cross-chain? TIA
@CruzControlPH
@CruzControlPH 3 жыл бұрын
Generations of cyclists have known that cross-chaining is A Bad Thing. It's one of those rules you get taught very early on. Ride with the chain on the BIG chainring (on the chainset, the component your pedals are attached to) and the BIGGEST sprocket on the cassette (the cluster of cogs attached to the hub of the rear wheel) - and anyone you're riding with is likely to alert you to the fact in seconds. People love to point it out. Amongst mechanics we called big-big the 'pro gear’, because professionals would ride it all the time, no matter what their mechanics told them. The same applies to pro road racers. They'll stay on the big ring as long as possible. There are very good reasons to stay on the big chainring, even as far as the big sprocket: • Chain management on rough terrain. • Access to tallest gears without have to shift in front. • Front shifts are slower than rear and much harder on the chain. So we would encourage readers to ride big-big if they like, as long as they don’t experience chain rasp on the front derailleur cage. MODERN drivetrains, specifically the Yaw front derailleurs, are designed to accommodate this. Very little efficiency is lost when cross-chaining. And in the case of big-big, minuscule efficiencies lost to cross-chaining are offset by efficiency gained because of larger bend radii for the chain. Better chain management and easier access to tall gears certainly outweigh any efficiency loss. A few words on efficiency measurements. There are enormous differences between the efficiency measured on a loaded drivetrain and an unloaded drivetrain (what your hand feels when spinning the crank on a bike in a workstand). The sluggishness that cross chaining sometimes appears to cause on a bike in the stand disappears when the drivetrain is under load. It’s analogous to lubes in loaded and unloaded mechanical systems. Light oil generally feels better than heavy grease when a system is worked by hand, but when the system is loaded the heavier lube will be more efficient. Similarly, cross-chaining is not a concern for premature component wear unless of course your chain is wearing through your front derailleur. In the last decade cross-chaining has become increasingly common with many people running the chain in the big chainring and big sprocket, especially with the advent of electronics which is much more permissive regarding cross-chaining. This means that today's chains are subjected to much higher stresses than in the past. That’s why modern GROUPSET manufacturers decided to invest in the development of much stronger chains. We hope this explanation will be included in your local discussion.
@babayaguh

What an insight. So cross-chaining is just a thing of the past. Love your videos btw, sir!

High end group sets actually have a trim position for cross chaining although cross chaining isn't advisable for long period usage.
@sepg5084

For 1X cranksets, a bit of cross chaining is inevitable. That's why most road bikes stick with 2X. 1X MTBs are not really tuned for long, road hillclimbs.
