Concerning a Ninja's use of various weapons, remember that Ninjas could often disguise themselves as guards, yamabushi monks, or even as samurai themselves; so being adept at using ANY weapon appropriate for a disguise makes sense, if the ninja doesn't want to blow their cover during an unexpected fight.

The setting of Rise is what makes them more Ninja related where the other games it is just a Rouge aspect, which the Ninja are the most well known Rouge Archetype to come out of Japan. And like "Which Ninja" has repeatedly shown Rouge Archetypes are more suited to the resourceful mind, then the overwhelming body, like the Warrior Archetypes are dependent on, but won't ignore the advantages of physical prowless in favor or pure mental superiority, like Caster/Scholar Archetypes typically focus on.

Aside from what you said, there’s another link you can make: failure is NOT an option. I say this because in every main series monster hunter game (iirc), the more you die, your reward will lower, and if you die enough times, you’ll fail the mission, so in both scenarios, you’d have to fight as best as you can, with whatever you have, however you can

Quick side note on the size of the Dango - the inverse square law. Generally, increasing the diameter of the sphere by 8 increases the volume by 8^3. Or specifically, 10mm ball = 4188.8mm3, 80mm ball = 2.14x10e6 mm3 ~ 510 times the volume (~8^3). So the Hunter would be eating just under 230,000 calories in a meal by that metric.

In one of Yomogi's dango sidequests, she mentions pharmaceutical ingredients and sends you to get high rank Somnacanth (sleep) and Pukei-Pukei (poison) sacs. Also, if a small Zamite latches onto you, you can use a kunai to stab it and instantly kill it. Thus, in the game, kunai are better in melee than at range - like real life.

11:07 honestly, the idea of a village food vendor secretly packing what looks like a sugary treat with the calories, protein and nutrients needed for an adult hunter? That sounds hella ninja to me. What looks like an average sweets vendor being the one-stop refuel shop for hunters and warriors, secrets and massive utility being hidden by the guise of cute cats and a young business owner making sweets. Plus, the appearance of it being sweet could also be social persuasion, as well as encouragement, even if it’s subtle. After all, how can you say no to sweets, especially from a little girl and her cat compatriots? And after eating, you’d probably feel unstoppable, being able to hunt for hours, after a feast of seemingly just innocent sweets, when in reality you were given a literal round-meal. That sounds hella ninja to me, IMO.

I like to also add to the Weapon part that Gaijin made with the Armor. These are big hulking monsters. Ninja-themed they may be the adaptation of their skillset to fit the target of Hunting Monsters would make them very ninja if you ask me. Ninja were about adaptation, using what they can to do things when they can. The use of animals, larger weapons, techniques, feels like something a Ninja would do to survive in tandem with the monsters that live alongside them. So while a Ninja using a Nodachi may seem unrealistic to us because it would have no application to their main skill set, in a world where the main animals are larger than houses and the biggest threat to their livelihoods, it would make sense their equipment would reflect that.

Nice vid as always, i just wanted to fix the math for the dango, cuz you know, science. Doubling the length actually multiply volume by 8 (2 * 2 * 2). You could then fit 8 * 8 * 8 = 512 times more calories in a single ball ; taking the estimation of 50 cal per hyourogan, we'd end up with a ridiculous 25,600 cal for a SINGLE dango ball (or whatever this is), so over 230,000 cal for a full meal. Ain't that much tho, since they need to swing those massive weapons around.

The village itself is very similar to konoha. As you explore every nook and cranny of the village, especially the training area, that theme of a ninja village 'hidden in the leaves' theme becomes super apparent. I love how they put their own spin on it though rather than just copy/pasting naruto, Utsushi aside. But even so, I *LOVE* how he's essentially the village captain of the 'Anbu force' and how he only answers directly to Fugen and that subtle hinting throughout the game that Utsushi's missions are so secretive that not even you as the 'hero of Kamura' are let in on the details. They *are* a village of *ninjas* after all.

With the meal, that may be the early game meal like what they did with World. The size of the meal was determined about how many ingredients you had access to. Hey! Math person here. A dango that's eight times bigger than normal would have more calories than 400. You have to consider the square-cube law, specifically the second part for our purposes, because calories are based on volume, and not specifically size. Reading Wikipedia, it goes like this: "When an object undergoes a proportional increase in size, its new surface area is proportional to the square of the multiplier and its new volume is proportional to the cube of the multiplier." So, an object that is twice is big as another would have four times as much surface area (or 2^2) and its volume would be eight times greater (or 2^3). If we apply that to our 8x multiplier dangos, we would see that the dangos' volumes are 8^3=512 times greater than the originals. If we go by the 50 calories count, that's a total of 25,600 per dango, or a meal of 230,400 calories for nine dangos. I don't know much about nutrition, but I think you would die.

If you look very carefully the brown part of the brown and pink dango is the only one that is uncoated, as it has much more texture and the bordering pink is very bright rather then shaded, so the batter is likely not normal dango batter. Considering Monster Hunters love of making dishes meaty it might actually be something like Pemmican. (Whipped animal fat with ground up dried meat and berries in it.)

Well Gaijin, you did it. I was never a big fan of the monster hunter series. But after watching this video, you got me curious about this game and got me to download the demo. And If it's as good as it seems I may just end up having to get the whole game for my birthday. You finally broke me man, well done.

Hey gaijin, I’ve been a fan for a while, and I was wondering if you’ve heard of a game called Desperados III? It’s a cowboy game, but it has a major focus on stealth and I think there’s a lot of cool stuff there. Though I will always enjoy seeing this series pop up on my phone.

it always blows me away how much attention to detail & references Capcom puts in their MH games, granted it makes sense as they use each asset for as long as physically possible

10:30 Eight times the diameter of a sphere means the volume increases by eight cubed, or 512 times as much as a 10mm ball. so each ball would be over 25,000 calories, all nine would be almost a quarter of a million calories!!!

Considering all the insane crap hunters regularly pull, they probably burn through most, if not all of that pretty damn quick.

I saw this vid coming a mile away, I even mentioned the Trap Bugs in my comment when I made one about GG getting around to making this vid. Now I foresee him doing one on his Yokai vids about the Rampage..which the Japanese name pays obvious homage to the Hundred Demon Night Parade. We'll have to know more story wise but he'll have plenty of Yokai vids from Rise given how many of the monsters in it are gonna be obviously inspired by various yokai.

The diameter increases by 8 times, but the VOLUME increases by 512 times, which would be more important for calorie count. Making the same assumption as you, that would take the calorie count of each ball from 50cal to 25,600cal (512x50).

It wasn't through Bokksu, but I have now tried Mochi. I liked it, it had a kind of marshmallow like consistency. I'm wondering how close the quality of the My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream is compared to what you get in Japan. The flavor I tried was the double chocolate, which was likely made to appeal to the USA compared to more traditional Japanese flavors I see at Bokksu.

Hey, Gaijin Goombah Media, have you thought of doing a video on the various Monsters from Rise that are based on Yokai? I’d love to see something like that, especially if you could speculate on likely Yokai that they might base new Monsters off of next.

You evoked the name of Surf Ninjas. This piques my curiosity for whether you'd cover its contemporary, 3 Ninjas? Sure it was chock full of 90's camp, but there were actually quite a few legitimate ninja lessons that you've mentioned on this channel before including but not limited to using verticality as a natural human blindspot (in many cases, using their small stature to make down just as much of a blindspot as up), using at-hand materials and local terrain to improvise cover (for example, repainting their masks & uniforms inside a room currently being renovated and repainted to blend with the walls and scaffolding), and their demon spirit masks (don't recall off the top of my head what these were called). Regarding the colorful uniforms, the oldest had ninja-approved blue, while the second had forest green. That almost makes up for the youngest having sunflower yellow, right? And as mentioned before, they are not above recoloring their uniforms as the situation demanded.

It was really interesting to hear about how central dogs were to shinobi. It's easy to say ninjas had dog companions here and there but who knows if those stories are just being blown out of proportion. However, I find it really interesting that the Bansenshūkai has real techniques for dealing with dogs and the sort. Good work Goombah!
