This is why in the first movie, the Predator is laughing at his own death, he had fun and wish to keep pushing Arnold even at the cost of his own death. This is also seen in the sequel when Danny defeats the Predator he's not met with distant or hatred, instead, receiving joy from the other Predators. That because he was able to beat one of them in easily to most onesided fight in the entire series. Rather than making the fight even more unfair like activating their own bombs or straight up killing him afterward, they reward him for his efforts. It's simply not that they don 't respect a fair fight but rather they get more enjoyment when it's onesided. So by that thought, yes they would be more akin to hunters rather than samurai as samurai would fear losing above all elsewhere a hunter would simply enjoy the fight. While they won't fight a defenseless character its very clear that if the character in question attempted to fight them they would see it with far more respect then any equal fight. They loved to test very strong opponents yet they clearly enjoy being surprised by weak opponents as well.

Doom Guy I was reading a comic recently about a group of predators that were trapped on an island by humans with no way off. They were disgraced. Hunting only the boars and occasional shipwrecked crew that washed up. When they finally got their gear back the immediately self destructed once the people who gave them heir gear left. It was more about honor and dignity.

The Predator in the first movie didn't give himself away with the bodies. In fact the soldiers thought it was the terrorists that had done it. Plus they hide bodies in the trees until they can take trophies where no one will know.

I think you're on to something there

You forgot to mention that they LOVE ambushing, wall and ceiling-climbing, using all sorts of narrow hidden paths like technical and ventilation tunnels. Their young ones, the "facehuggers", are small-sized and always go for a sneak attack to the critical spot - the head (namely the mouth, but whatever). Xenomorphs adapt to their enemy, like ninjas do. All of them indeed give a rat's @ss about honor too, only brutal efficiency. ... That said, being a shinobi is a profession. Xenomorphs do all this not because they've been hired, but because... they are just that, xenomorphs, it's what they do. Social differences apply here as much as with Predators.

A critical flaw in the argument being the same as for predators. Xenomorphs have many tools at their disposal similar to the ninja. But they don't behave as ninja at all on the fundamental level. They purposefully seek out others. They might be sneaky about it, but the only thing they aim to do is get up in your face and overpower you. A ninja would stay in the shadows and wait for a perfect opportunity, only attacking lone targets, yet we see the xenomorphs constantly attacking groups of people and needlessly exposing themselves. They're terrifyingly efficient ambush hunters, but they're not ninja.

No they are not hunter, that is the point, they are poachers or 'Big Game Hunters'. A Hunter kills for a purpose, getting meat and skin to feed and provide for his family. A Poacher kills for self-gratification, for fun, the trill or just a trophy. A Ninja will kill the target or to get away and complete the mission, not for self-gratification.

Simply having the tools and tactics doesn't make something the same thing, especially when it boils down to purpose. Predators were glorified hunters, not Spies and intel gatherers. They existed for the thrill of hunting the ultimate prey. Ninja differ as much as described in this video. They prefer not to fight and only shed blood when they have to. they're duty is to survive. If they don't, anything they have learned cannot benefit their villages or clans. Even if they somehow get captured and interrogated, if they somehow escape even after divulging information, their job is not to commit suicide for failing, but to take out the one they informed "IF THEY CAN" or return home and warn their village/clan. While a Predator uses tools a ninja would DROOL over having in their arsenal, and hunt in ways a ninja would skulk around and spy, that is where the similarities and similar interests end. A Predator has more in common with a Samurai and a hunter then a Ninja. QUITE LITERALLY IN ONE OF THE PREDATOR MOVIES a Yakuza member challenges the Predator to a duel and he... de-cloaks and confronts him accepting his challenge. This sheds the very last thing a ninja and predator would have in common. As you said. Honor. If the predator behaved as a ninja would in THIS instance, he would have simply killed the Yakuza member with one of his many gadgets rather then a fair fight. So yeah. Predators and Ninja's are only the same in method and what they do but not why they do it. A Hunter/Samurai with Ninja skills and gadgets vs a Spy/Assassin.

As a longtime fan of Yautja, I greatly appreciate the time and research you put into this. It's funny, when I was watching "The Unexpectables", I noticed certain similarities between the group and the Yautja. The vain pride of Panic, the imposing physique of Borky, the ideals of Task, and the tactics of Greckles. Speaking of which, you are most certainly a phenomenal D&D player with the manner in which you portray your character. Looking forward to when the party heads to the Eastern Isles.

He very rarely used stealth, and every time he did, it was focused to complete the mission, often to great effect. He covered as much of his face as he could, and he didn't use his fire bending at he same time as the blue spirit mask. When he wanted to be sneaky, he was pretty good. He even had the awareness to dress in all white when infiltrating the Northern Water tribe.

That's kindof the thing. They follow honor and glory in a hunters sense: a good kill on top prey. It's not survival, it's sport. If it was about efficient killing, plasma casters and portable nukes would be their go-to. They wouldn't even bother with smart discs, staves, or claws. They often find themselves in dangerous situations for thrill. A ninja would do everything in their power to succeed, honor is for the dead.

For me, it's an 8/10. Yeah they don't have the same mindset as historical ninja, but at the same time that mindset probably wouldn't age well anyways and there'd be less and les need for the skills of a shinobi to be used for espionage. Though I will say they sense of honor aligns more with a samurai's. Not completely, but the honor-based hierarchy does seem more samurai than ninja.

Would it be interesting though? Both Predator movies are set in modern time, with modern weapons and second one also with modern technology, and humans with all that still only win because screenwriter said they would. No offence, but no amount of technique and armour are going to protect samurai in open combat against Predator, and no amount of stealth are going to save shinobi from someone who has a both literal invisibility and also a infrared visor.

@@NekoiNemo actually, there is at least two occasions I can remember where a predator lost in open combat to an unarmored human wielding a katana. One of those humans was even accepted into a predator clan and was almost completely accepted as a member of their race. What's more is the predators, by extended lore, often cite Xenomorphs as the greatest and most deadly prey and they dont have any tech or technique. Not to discount how dangerous they really are, but I think it does provide good evidence for the predators in medieval japan being a good setting. Most predators would probably even remove their mask and honorably accept the challenge of most strong samurai. Honestly their honor is the reason the predators die more often than not.

She's resourceful, knows how to hide, and while partial to bows, will use whatever's available to control the fight. Depending on how you play, you can damage, if not destroy a lot of enemy forces before they have a chance to attack or even spot you. Not to mention the advantages gained in quiet recon. And if analyzing HZD gives Gaijin an excuse to play it, by all means. I'm curious about his take on it.

I think there was one case in the comics where a predator war carrying around a katana. So there was a potentially cool story there we never saw.

There was a movie where the predators captured a yakuza dude with a katana and he had a 1v1 fight to the death with a predator. I think the yakuza guy won but died from his injuries

There's a comic called Predator: Blood Feud that tells the story of that very concept, it's pretty good if you ever want to give it a read. Have a good one :)

Grab a copy of the book called Predator: If It Bleeds. One of the short stories within details how a fight to the death inspired a man in Feudal Japan to create the Ninja.

Echo and Hibana, really? Caviera, Alibi, Mute, Nokk, Vigil, Jackal, Iana, heck, even Maverick, Dokkeibi and Kali are better ninjas than those two! Is it because they're japanese? Like sure, Yokai is mainly recon and ultrasonic blasts, but they're stuck in one spot; pretty bad ninja all in all. I think a better episode would be figuring out which Rainbow Six operator would be the best ninja. I'd put my money on Nokk, but hey, maybe it'd be a suprise.
