How Path of Stars Failed | Warrior Cats Book Review

Dawn of the Clans has some of the most controversial final couple of books in Warrior Cats. But with Path of Stars, the 6th entry in the arc, it seems that you either love it or you hate it. Here's what I thought about it.

Sorry if I sound like I have a lot less energy in this video. I woke up sick the morning of recording (yesterday at the time of this comment) and had to finish the book, write the script, and produce the video all in 1 night because I got stuff to do with finals. Also, I totally spaced this when I was writing this, but thank you all so much for 100 subscribers! I promise you, this is just the beginning of what I have in store for this channel and I'm grateful for each and every one of you who chooses to stick around. I used to think of this book as just as dreadful to get through as A Forest Divided, but I think I mixed some of the plot up. This one was definitely better and I could feel them slowly wrapping everything up, but like you said, instead of wrapping up the story of how the clans came to be, it was held back by the conflicts from A Forest Divided. I really love Dawn of the Clans, it's my favorite arc, but some books were just very dreadful to get through, and that's mostly because of Clear Sky's changing personality. I love Clear Sky as a character and villain, but my opinions are mostly from fanon, cause canon butchered his character completely. An arc where he deals with his issues and reconnects with his family and colony and slowly redeems himself would've been great. I read somewhere that these switches in personality from book to book are due to different authors working on the books interchangeably without much communication. I guess one of them wanted to keep Clear Sky as this asshole character, but the other one wanted him to change himself. Great video as always, I love listening to Warriors content in the background and your videos are perfect for that. I'd love to see a longer review sometime, maybe of an entire character? Keep it up!

Thank you for the comment! I’m not sure how I’d rank Dawn of the Clans as an arc yet because it’s been so soon since I’ve finished it for myself, but, as it stands, I feel kind of mixed. Dawn of the Clans really differentiated itself with singlehandedly the most unique writing style, framing of the setting, etc. out of all the arcs and each of the books individually except for, like, The Blazing Star, in my opinion, all start off incredibly well-written especially for series books, but it is incredibly hard to pretend that when they failed in this arc that they didn't fail absolutely atrociously. Writing this arc was probably more difficult because Vicky Holmes left the main series during the middle of its production. I'm sure that it must've been hard for whoever was taking over to step into those shoes. This could also explain how there was much more of a difference in how the authors for the main series interpreted certain characters and events and how that all flowed together even if that's not normally as much of an issue (though I will admit, I have noticed that I like Kate Carry's books way more than Cherith Baldry's anyway lol). Even so, the issues that I have with Dawn of the Clans ultimately boil down to some of these story beats becoming borderline illogical decisions even for an entirely new editorial management. If this was as drastic of a change as some make it out to be, how is it the case that Vicky left after The Sun Trail and then The First Battle (which was 2 entire books later) went on to become one of the most acclaimed and beloved entries in the whole arc? It just doesn't make any sense. Warriors has always had a reputation in the main arcs for messing up with the last couple of books even for the arcs that Vicky has and hasn't worked on, but I genuinely have never disliked a main arc Warriors book as much as I did A Forest Divided. I love Vicky and she's responsible for some of my favorite books, so I really wish that it would stop being an excuse for these newer ones to be bad just because they're written without her even though she's been behind a couple of not-so-good books herself. It's always a pleasure to see you in the comments and I'm glad that you like listening to my videos! I would love to do longer reviews, but, at the moment, I have finals to catch up on for school and am currently battling a pretty persistent case of strep throat, so it's a bit hard to talk for long right now haha. That being said, the next books that I plan to tackle for this series in particular are mostly Super Editions, so those are bound to result in much longer reviews, I'm sure! As for individual characters, I have an idea of sorts already in the works, but I'm not sure when that one's gonna release because of what I'm going through lol. Thank you so much again! Much love.

@@Hawkkz Ah, I didn't think you'd remember me! Yes, the writing is very annoying and I do agree it just gets questionable at some points (Star Flower dating her ex's dad ??). All of that is 100% deserved criticism. Strep throat sucks, get well soon man! And good luck on your finals, I think we all need it :')

Before I watched this video I always felt the same and agreed with a lot of the points made in this vid. (SPOILERS FOR THE END OF DOTC) The main thing that always made me feel like this though is how graywing died and just.. literally left everything a mess in a way? Like bruh sure he goes to kitty heaven and dies peacefully (or so we’re supposed to believe??? Like bruh he just left behind like 2 families and saw like half of his family crying over his dying body how tf are we supposed to believe this is a good thing even for graywing if he’s going peacefully?) Like I just hate how Graywing was like “peace LOL” and.. yk LOL it was dumb imo. The authors didn’t have to make graywing die (imo) just to finalize the book/arc???????? I see how u think his death was one of the best written deaths and I agree, but still I wish the book didn’t end with that THOUGH the book probably wouldn’t have felt fully.. finished, I suppose, if it didn’t end liek that- idk I feel mixed on his death. This is probably like the first vid you’ve ever made where I had a pretty drastic view from yours in these reviews- about clearsky, I feel like him doing a full 360 wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. Now I mean I do see what you mean because like.. it was a bit like.. too drastic and kinda out of place and last minute but at the same time that also didn’t mean it was bad, I kinda liked this new version of him better than his other, but I have to agree with you in that as a character he could’ve gotten better because like I also said it felt kinda last minuet? Like in tom’s situation, last minuet- let me correct myself, the last MILLISECOND of his life he saved um like one of his kids I think? From one eye? That was like a last minute “redemption” and it felt kinda like clearsky got the same treatment in a sense- again I have mixed views on a character LOL. I never really cared for clearsky? but I always thought his old character was entertaining and it got somewhat watered down with the way it was finalized near the end of the arc. ALSO TY FOR THE SHOUTOUT LOLL😭😭😭😭

I totally agree with you on all of that. I like changed Clear Sky too, but I just wish that it wouldn’t seem so out of character at times. Also OFC I’D SHOUT YOU OUT THAT ART WAS FIRE BRO TYSM FOR THAT AGAIN ❤️❤️ Do you think you could space out the beginning of your comment to indicate spoilers though, please? Sorry but the Gray Wing stuff is prolly the worst thing to be spoiled over in this arc LOL Thank you so much for your continued support!

SPOILERS Gray Wing's death made me cry the most out of any Warriors death, even though Dawn of the Clans was not my favorite arc by any means. I do wish Sparrow and Owl were also with Gray Wing at the end though 🥺
