At 0:45 and again at 1:26, you can see that the rod journal has been discolored by heat. This crankshaft has been cut apart with a torch for the sake of welding it back together to make a video, rather than actually being broken and repaired for a customer. For that matter, if you cared about the final result, you would go to the trouble of protecting the main and rod journals from the weld spatter.

When I was working for a machine shop years ago, my boss/owner told us three things we were never to do, one was never weld anything chucked up to a lathe, or use a grinder on anything, and never blow off the ways with an air hose. We had one early 1900 Brown & Sharp automatic screw machine with overhead belt drive. All we did with that machine was turn out vehicle engine hood lock pins. Back in those days we had to change out the cams, no CNC's for us.

Given how out of true the bodged "Repair" runs in the lathe and the fact that nothing was ever "Clocked" into alignment it will never run for even a single minute. As soon as the filming stopped this was thrown straight into the scrap bin.

This was just repaired for filming purposes. They will probably throw it away after the video. You can clearly see that it has been cut with a grinder and not broken

Amazingly insane for these guys to be using all the different grinders, etc WITHOUT SAFETY GLASSES. Being blinded by machine error in one eye already, I go out of my way to protect my one good eye.

I've seen guys weld crankshafts before but I wouldn't take that engine above idle. No V-notching, no deep welds, no continuous welds, no real heat, no preheating the surrounding metal, recipe for disaster. it looked like someone tried to weld it with a coat hanger powered by a car battery
