Very well said. More than half of the stuff that I learned in school I've forgotten.. By just the fact that I never use it in my everyday life. It's all memorization of answers in order to do well on standardized tests. Total verbatim regurgitation.

This was my favorite cartoon as a kid. I didn't dig this deep into it until I decided to re watch all the seasons when the 5th came out. My eyes are now closed and my ears are open. I watch all 5 seasons over again once a year and usually add a new perspective everytime. Awesome video my friend.

Having you frame the show like this has really put into perspective for me how watching this show in my childhood has been nothing short of a boon, especially since I was forced to move out from my narcissistic mom and thus needing to manage my own apartment. A minimalist focus on the essentials has been an immense help for me in that regard

I do agree ! Martial art masters are more respected than most teachers in school! When I began studying eastern philosophy( and the BIble) I became more aware of things and learned how to use my mind better! My Tae Kwon DO teacher can tell you many,many examples of students got better grades after taking up martial arts! It improved them greatly! Thank you!

Great video but I’d have to respectfully disagree. The full quote is actually “Jack of all trades is a master of none, but still better than a master of one”. With how fast our world changes and how complicated life is - there is real need for interdiscplinary knowledge. Both in terms of career success but also in terms of what makes you a better person. There is no such thing as useless knowledge. For example maybe learning about psychology might not help you in your career but it could help you in other areas of life. Someone who studies both art and programming could apply that to a design field or some other opportunity. There’s space for both maximalists and minimalists in this world. And they both have their own risks/rewards. One risk for the minimalists is if they focus too hard on a skill that eventually becomes outdated they’re then left with nothing. Another is maybe they focus so hard in this one skillset they neglect other areas of their life like relationships or making a positive impact in their community. At the end of the day you’ll find its just as impossible to be a true minimalist who focuses on only one thing as it is impossible to be a true maximalists who tried to do everything. Life’s all about balance.

I truly agree with basically everything you said. It may sound weird but it's because my views on this topic have changed a lot ever since I made this video. I personally spend so much time reading books about:health & science, philosophy, psychology, history, and more and although they are very different topics and in many ways unrelated, I can always make many connections between them and learn and understand life as whole better because of it. And yeah, specially nowadays it may be more needed than ever before. I tgink it's still good to have something you specialize in to make sure you can apply all other knowledge into that field, but you shouldn't just get stuck in that field either. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I definitely have to make and updated video about how my views on this topic have changed quite a bit.🙏🏼💪🏼

@PokeProfSunny It might be a late response, but I couldn’t help myself from appreciating your comment on this topic. We all get so overwhelmed by all the knowledge around us and forget the main purpose of our existence. Get attached to things which in the whole picture doesn’t make sense. People often misunderstand art in my opinion, they think it is delusional, but it is what helps us understand reality. That’s the reason it is celebrated everywhere.

The only reason kids don't know what they are good at earlier is because school puts 0 weight on showing them what they might enjoy. Nobody gave a single shit I was good at art, people told me it's a "nice hobby" at best so why would I think my talent was worth anything. I knew what I wanted to do, people just told me it's not as important as finishing school

Man I disagree completely, I went out of my way to implement my hobby into every project possible. I was a 5th grader creating PowerPoints and videos on roller coaster engineering for fun. I’d tell the teacher if I could present it for fun and they’d let me for extra credit. All I hear are a combination of excuses and perhaps alternate parenting styles. I was raised to put yourself out there and find solutions/answers on your own if you really seek what you want. Maybe that’s a valuable skill many people are unfortunate to miss out on.

The point of school is to give everyone the same baseline set of knowledge to be cogs in a large machine. A jack of all trades is merely someone who can fit in many places of that machine, while a specialist can only fit in one. Samurai Jack's message isn't "ignore school", it's to refuse to be a mere cog in a great machine.

I'm glad you liked it. 💪🏼💪🏼 Yeah in life it takes a while to find what you truly should be doing. What I suggest, is having a diary/agenda in which you write down your goals and then every day you write down how you feel, what you did, what new goals emerged if you didn't have any before and so on. If you don't ask yourself questions, you'll never find answers.

School isn't supposed to prepare you for life. That's your parents' job. School is just supposed to teach you some useful information and skills. Parents turn a huge percentage of their responsibility onto school systems to basically raise their children. Young people put all the responsibility on the schools and take none for themselves. I'm always hearing, "Why didn't my teacher tell me that?!" 1) They probably did, but you weren't paying attention or didn't retain it. Do you retain even 50% of what you were taught in school? 2) Even if they didn't teach you something, your knowledge is your own responsibility. Read a damned book. If some fact, concept, or lesson is missing from your knowledge, that's your own failing first, your parents' second, and society/school a distant third. Lincoln taught himself to read and write by reading books in between working on his parents' poor backwoods farm, and eventually taught himself well enough to pass the Illinois Bar to become a lawyer, and eventually a US Senator and President. Good Mind, Good Parents, Hard Work, 0 School = one of the best leaders this country has ever had. We (young people and parents) need to stop blaming everything on schools and teachers and take up the responsibility that is already ours instead of shrugging it off onto underpaid public servants. They're not your Mommy. They're not your Daddy. And they're not You.
@meem6154
@meem6154 5 ай бұрын
The first point is completely and utterly correct (parent one), and the second point I also can twist to agree with but the reasons are terrible, first off, if the school system isn’t engaging then there is no drive to retain knowledge and, the second one is how am I supposed to know to research something specific that will come up in a a later conversation. Your points are ok but you reasons aren’t well thought out.😊
