I love how Rodri made those comments when within the first few minutes of this game Spain were falling over like dominos, whenever they felt the slightest of touch they fell over, it was madness the amount of diving they were doing.

Steve Clarke is such an under rated manager. When he managed West Brom for 18 months he had a win rate of 31.7% then he went to Reading for a year and had win rate of 35.8% then he went to Kilmarnock for just 17 months and his win rate went up again to 50.6% and finally when he took over as Scotland manager in May 2019 to present he currently has a win rate of 48.8 % very impressive as he has turned this Scotland team inside out the last couple of years.

He done an amazing job at Killie. He took a team that was relegation material up to third place in the league, and would regularly take points off both sides of the Old Firm. I think he is almost the perfect manager for an underdog team because he can set the side up in this way and get results. I don't think he would do as well at Spain, for example.

One thing that needs to be noted is how much better Andy Robertson has been for Scotland in the past year or two. When he was made captain under Clarke, and played in a completely different system (he was used to playing alongside a winger like Mane who would create space for his overlaps) his form was very poor for Scotland and he hardly ever got an assist. So he was kind of wasted in the original back five system, as back then it was more about just sitting deep and hoping not to concede, instead of having an attacking game plan alongside the defensive one. However he has been so much better in the past couple of years, and is playing like the world class left back that he is. He got an assist last night and i'm pretty sure he got at least another one at home to Cyprus at the weekend. He has gone from many fans, including myself, calling on him to be dropped to arguably our most valuable player alongside McGinn.

As a Scot, I've watched nearly every game, I missed the Turkey friendly over the World Cup period but I've been in impressed the way in, which they have continued to improve. I think if we can make the Euros 24, then we'll see a very different side as the team who only managed a point last time. A big reason why we've improved is having Hickey now in wing-back means we can attack from the right-hand side as well. Previously we had O'Donnell who played well defensively but was very limited, especially moving forward. I think we were quite predictable in our attack as we were very reliant on Robertson and Tierney to get forward and managers were aware that these were our two main players so made sure to defend the left handside. I also think we have better defenders, Porteous did well against Spain but also Hendry has improved a lot compared to where he was three years ago and although Dominic Hyam did not get a cap from what I've seen from him, I think he can also improve our defense. The great thing with the improved defense is that it now gives McTominay the chance to develop as a attacking midfielder for Scotland instead of playing as a defender. He's clearly shown as an ex-striker that he has great shooting instincts. However, I think we are weak with strikers at the moment. Dykes does a lot of good work off the ball and can physically manage against tough opposition but he's not a natural goal scoring talent. I think when Ross Stewart recovers from his injury, he could give us an even more of an attacking threat with McGinn and McTominay alongside. I'm also still a fan of Billy Gilmour and I think if he plays more regularly for his club than he could give us something different in terms of retaining the ball, which we didn't do well against Spain. Overall if we can get into Europe and we go there with little to now injuies then we could have a very exciting squad. I'm also hoping that two youngsters Ben Doak and Rory wilson will get into the squad in the same way that Nathan Patterson and Billy Gilmour were in the last Euros.

havent watched the video yet but i very, very much enjoyed watching that game. Was worried pre match that he'd be a walking own goal or red card but Porteous was brilliant and didnt look out of his depth even remotely, Tierney roasted one of world footballs big names for the second... limiting Spain to barely working Angus Gunn on his debut takes a lot of effort and focus, and to do it for about 99% of a game (excluding the header that hit the crossbar and the shot straight at Gunn) where the opposition are constantly trying to pass you to death fo find space is really impressive. Defended the space in the Scotland half perfectly; not sure if the Tifo video will touch on it but it looked like our whole team knew exactly where to be in every possible situation when and where Spain were on the ball; back 4 and then 5 players camped in front of the centre halves when they were approaching the final third, but Dykes, McGinn and Christie also pressed further up the pitch very intelligently.

Like you guys have said before, it's not necessarily about positions in modern football. It's about roles and capabilities within the individuals when in attack. Then, in defence, closing ranks and holding those positions. Was at the cyprus game on Saturday, and you could see it in the highlights. Also, do more lower level scottish football stuff, I know there's not a lot of TV coverage but a massive untapped market.

It's a 5 at the back with four defenders unless there's three or sometimes two. the two centre midfielders are playing defensive except when they're not. The two forwards are here except when there are three forwards, one of which is a defender who plays midfield. So there's a diamond of four players here which is very important and that diamond consists of 4 of the 5 defenders because one has gone upfront leaving four defenders except the two of them that are playing midfield so one of the midfielders is playing defence leaving the three making up the four of the diamond... aye. very good.

You cannot turn up at Hampden with an inexperienced team that's been thrown together and expect it to go well. Lyndon Dykes- good physically, but not a natural goalscorer and has a poor passing range. Che Adams- quite a good player but do you really want Che Adams to be your starting forward in say a world cup? I don't think so. Good player to have in the squad though. Jacob Brown- what a joke of a man. he thought he'd walk right into scotland's first team because he couldnt get a game for england.. well done steve clarke for putting him in his place. Kevin Nisbet- oh god... hes finished already. they need a good central forward to come through. there's a few young prospects but sadly nobody to make an immediate effect. And NO, do not put McTominay up top..

i think the old fashioned 3-4-3 of Cruyff would work for this Spanish squad. It means you could potentially play Alba & Carvajal as wide CB's in the 3 but Laporte, also suits LCB and Pau Torres makes an ideal Central CB wit Garcia an option. Porro is a superb RWB/RM and i could see the other 3 in midfield as Rodri, Gavi & Ceballos. Pedri plus 2 of Morata, Torres, Fati, Asensio & Olmo up front.

Luis de la Fuente is also unexperienced and man decided to bring what the spanish media wants instead of what would have worked for him and his idea. Luis Enrique was sacked because he brought the best for his style and not what the media wanted (mostly real madrid fans asking not to have Barcelona players). -They asked for Aspas ( he was dreadful ) -Joselu ( Had a couple of nice chances but he isnt better than morata) -Both Porro and Carvajal looked dead in the match - In the WC Luis Enrique was harshly critiziced for dropping Gaya (he was injured) and bringing Balde, Gaya was dreadful. In general there was no clear ideas on how to play.

Say what you like about Luis Enrique but the man knew what he wanted and he had the balls to go and execute it. It's a shame he didn't keep more friends on board along the way, maybe he might have kept the job. Certainly the players liked him, but he didn't play the media game, and when he didn't succeed it was only ever going to go one way.

it does seem like Spain are still in a post WC low... but perhaps this was de la Fuente's plan? play them against Scotland & expose them - but at a low risk to the result... obviously if that was the plan it went badly but he still can now pick his own players and the media will struggle to find an audience for those players mentioned above. Morata suffers from being in a big country - most countries would love Morata and he'd play for a decade or more but a big country always looks at what he cannot do instead of looking at what he does brilliantly. The same thing happens in England, but Southgate has done a good job at reducing the volume of the noise. I think Enriique was good at that as well - although he was more front foot than Southgate when it came to talking to the media about it!

Was it really THAT much of a shock? We have a good team. Maybe not as good as Spain’s, but there isn’t really a whole lot between them really. Spain are nowhere near as good as what people think they are. They haven’t got the same team as 2008-2012

Has to be noted that the team JJ brought up at the end really weren't very good at the world cup. They beat a very poor costa rica side and looked poor playingnkeep ball until they were eliminated early. Seems clear that experimentation is required.
