Here it is, we run our BA XR6 Falcon down the quarter mile drags at Heathcote Park Raceway to kick off our Basic Barra Performance Mod series.
And while at the track we try to mythbust the old math of stripping 100lbs (45kgs) dropping your times by 0.1 secs - anything to help drop the times on this one!

I have always been a Holden chick..but when my daughter bought a defected victorian XR6 to 'do up' and it sat in the shed for a year without her touching it, I decided one day to clean it up and take it for a spin around the block. OMG. By the end of the day I had bought the car, the engine was absolutely covered in oil which I sourced to the fact the top gasket on it was actually missing. I have now been under that car and pulled it apart fixing things for the past 2 months trying to get it ready for a roadworthy to change it to SA. I live sleep and breathe that damn car...I have an unreg permit on it atm so I get to cruise around in it, smoothest car I have ever driven. I wanted to rip everything out to make it faster but I would have nowhere to put my 2 year old..haha..would LOVE to turbo it, havnt watched your conversion video yet, we shall see. Im never selling it, ever..lol

Mate. You are spot on with the having fun bit. I went to Whoop Ass Wednesday at the Kwinana (Perth) Dragway a few years back - in my FG tray top. Yes, 16.4 was my time too. I had the LSD but I ran with the DSC on, it flashed a few times at take off. I was the slowest, but probably the quietest. Will follow your journey, as I too reckon there are a few 10ths to be shed for easy money.

On ya mate, I wish it didn't seem so intimidating so more people would have a go and enjoy it, we may even have more tracks or days open at existing ones. To be far I think I was second or third slowest there but who cares, staging a proper quick car can actually slow down everyone's runs more than my slow butt! And most are too busy doing there own thing to notice. Thanks for watching and you're in luck, the rest of this series has already been completed and posted, and a new series is now in the works. This series was pretty interesting. The main part being.. Your stock BA is so slow! It's almost the complete opposite of my stock 03 BA XR6. But once you slap the turbo in things will change

Your first time is bang on for a stock xt, the heat is probably the reason why you didn't crack a 15, my stock Futura did a 16.6 and 16.3 on a hot summer night lol

This series is great for beginners.. I want to see a comparison between a BA XR6 and a BA XT/Fairmont or even a SR. It'd be interesting to see the difference. P.S Nice ducktail spoiler

@Vinny V Thanks mate! The BA's had the same power across the board in the NA 6's so any difference would be in small weight differences and gearing. Which is great actually because what we do to this car should be similar for all of those in the range.

Another top vid, really enjoyed it, great to see how a good standard went, and awesome to see the old school weight reduction, as a young bloke backing the early 80,s I would drive around chucking out whatever I could including the spare, till I needed it lol, young and stupid

Tip... don’t leave your aircon on cause it drips water on the track which will cause wheel spin!

I’ve owned Falcons with the 4, 5 and 6 speed auto’s, the 4 speed has a very tall first gear. I had the base model BA with the 4 speed and it would do 90km/h in first gear, my current FG2 with the 6 speed maxes out at 60 in first. I’m guessing this is hurting your 60 foot time quite a bit.

I'm sure you would know this maybe not but the sport shift mode is a lot quicker

@Hayden Reynolds Hey thanks mate. The car was put into sport shift but left to shift automatically, so shifts were firmer as they would be manually shifting but it’s good for consistency when testing and some also believe this way is quicker too 🤷‍♂️

0-100km times would of been nice. And why do you use pounds and miles. You live in australia dont you? Otherwise nice video. I had a BF fairmont for about five years. Would be interesting to see how one drives after having a xr turbo fg for awhile.

Better tell every drag strip in the country they're doing it wrong then! It's a drag racing thing, MPH is used everywhere and it makes it easy to compare numbers, both historic and current from any drag strip worldwide. And the pounds thing I did the conversion in the video, again it's an old school drag racing thing 🤷 Thanks for watching.

Wow. Nearly 17 second quarter mile times. These NA Barras are actually reeeeaaaally slow. Why do people think they're fast!?!

People like them cause they are reliable, you can mod them with stock internals and get high power, plus they are fairly cheap and parts are easy to come by

Thanks for this mate. Having problems with vibration under acceleration and a whine coming from the front. BF Fairmont. Have you had any issues like this yourself?

@Jedd Tatam I didn’t, put it into performance mode but auto shifting still. May have dropped some time off manually shifting but wanted consistency for best comparison so this was the best way to do it. Thanks for watching mate!

Does the auto trans change gears by its self in sports mode?

@Goldyzzz Z It does, shift down into drive and then across as if you were going to manually shift but instead leave it in the centre. Will shift in ‘performance’ mode.

@@BrowneysGarage i have BA Fairmont pretty sure its the same set up as the xr6. I will give it a go i didnt know it would shift automatically in performance

@Goldyzzz Z Should be the same I believe. Probably not a huge difference anyway, much the same as the 'performance' button on earlier Falcons from my understanding so will hold gears longer, firm up shifts and drop down gears with less throttle input.

Nope, probably quicker. Especially if it has the 6 speed, would be similar or better than the BF we race in the end of series episode when we go back to the track.

I had a bf xr6 na had 650cc injectors fg xr6t zf box and a bf xr6t diff. Would beat a ve ss up until 180 have heaps of videos of it

Was a factory zf box but it milkshaked and had a spare zf out of a fg turbo

So a Stock BA is only as fast as a Stock EA lol... So 15 years of development did nothing. Good Job ford. Add a turbo to both and they are still the same. Not sure why the Barra gets so much love when this is the case.
