lots of ppl think about external body fat. might be close to 5 for a lean athlete. but the true bodyfat percentage is with the visceral one. and being under 10 is already kinda low.

I don't have verts like these guys but I'm an athlete who's been in the gym for years. From the numbers it sounds like you are a beginner so you don't have to worry about adding a ton of different routines for a while. The basic compound lifts will carry you for at least a year of consistent gains. When you realize where you are lacking (bottom of a deep squat, explosiveness, stability) then you should add in supplementary exercises

@@charlesborel8493 Correction. Strength training adds to plyometrics but results can be achieved without lifting. I had Osgood-Schlatters in my left knee since I was 10 that made me walk with a limp by the time I was in middle school. A fall injured my left wrist freshman year of high school so I couldn't bench anymore and I never squatted because of my left knee. By the time I was 16 in 10th grade (2005) I was about 5'6 1/2" and trying to dunk everyday and only an inch or 2 away. I got jumper's knee the same year and learned about a jump program called Dunk Now so I did that the summer after 10th grade and part of my 11th grade year. I mainly did the first half of the program but only part of the second half. It was all plyometrics and, even though I did maybe 70% of it, I got my full vertical back plus a couple more inches and my jump mechanics were so much better and put less strain on my knees due to building my leg muscles plus my speed increased. I could easily grab rim at any park or gym with one step (I also grabbed rim at the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005 before the jump program). I was just missing a good alley-oop to get a dunk down. My knees got worse and I gained weight and got more injuries so lost the vert for years but briefly regained it 2015-2017. I do agree that lifting properly along with plyometrics can really help and may be the best way to jump your highest. I'm definitely adding some weights in to help with knee and back rehab and just get a lot stronger. I just wanted to point out that if you can't lift because of injury or some other issue, you can still get results doing body-weight training like plyometrics, calisthenics and sprinting. I did add weighted calisthenics back in 2015 and did some benching for a little while in 2016-2017 but had to stop. My stats: Height - 5'7 3/4", Lean Weight - 145-152 LB (current weight 199/200 LB), Wingspan - 6'3-6'4", Bench - 215 LB (at weight ~175 LB in 2016), Weighted Pull ups - 100 LB, Weighted Dips - 145 LB, Squat - ~95 LB (knee pain so never did much), Max Vert - 35-37 inches, I don't remember my standing reach, only that it was over 7 feet.

@@isaakvanwegen2784a box squat is better for vertical jump than a regular squat . Don't give advice if you don't know, the reason is from the range of motion and one neglects the top portion of the lift and the box squat doesn't and the range of motion is more specific to jumping. Anything under 1 second doesn't translate to vertical jump when moving weight as far as a 1 on 1 carry over. You need to move fast enough to turn strength into power and that's the science/reason behind why a box squat is better for vertical jump and full squat is better for general strength.

A lot of it comes down to natural athleticism. In high school I was 6”1 3/4 barefoot, standing reach of 7”11 (short arms), and highest touch was 11”4 off 2 feet. 41 inch vert. Never lifted weights, only work out I did was a vert shock program the summer before my senior year. Played volleyball, basketball, and soccer September-June. I guess I just agree at minute 18. Your ability to transfer energy upwards. Now that I playing basketball 1x/week at most and do it less than half the year my fitness has decreased tremendously. Repetition without injury is everything. If I had the time to hoop every day and avoid knee pain I’m confident I could get that vert back again.

You guys should pump Austin full of anabolic steroids to see if he can break Isaiah's record max vertical off one foot.

How strong you are has nothing to do with your vertical. It’s all genetics and of course you can train and get it a little better. Same with sprinting. No matter how much you train or how strong you are… you will never be able to beat Usain Bolt unless you have 1 in 100billion sprinting genetics.
@terrymaverick580

It’s all genetics is actually not true that’s incredibly complicated now yes you need a high combinations of things to beat the very fastest person out of 7 billion but every man on the planet above 5’5 has the genetics to be able to jump what you need is the patience to train an cultivate the muscle fiber combination that works best for your frame an to train your cns an mechanics to to fire an be efficient enough to get the most out of your genetics the problem with your thinking is low standards an justifying them with the best like not being able to beat Usain Bolt isn’t an excuse to be fast anybody can train to run under 10.5 society will tell you otherwise but people just don’t know how
