Matt, manholes are H20 (10,000 pounds) rated. that means they are designed for fully loaded trucks to stop on them. Also, they are made of Ductile iron, not cast iron. for a real challenge get a casting from Neenah foundry, they have castings designed for Airports.

The angle he was shooting it only increased its survivability. Standard .50 cal round has about 16mm of penetration and a AP round has around 26. if he was shooting that manhole dead flat with the standard .50 cal round it would of gone through most likely.

I learned 2 things in this episode of Demo Ranch: 1. Matt is great at tying up manholes and enjoys making multiple attempts at penetration 2. In order to use a manhole as body armor, you must be able to bicep curl 200+ lbs.

I know a manhole cover will stop anything. You should see the ones we have here in New England! They stick 4 inches out of the ground and break rims, flatten tires, break front bumps and scrap your under carriage. It’s the only solid piece of infrastructure we have!

I'm glad he's having fun. This guy never ceases to make me laugh lol It makes me feel better that he does these videos now too because I used to worry about all the hurt animals he dealt with and how that made him and his family feel. I think this is a fun balance.

Manhole covers are usually made from ductile iron, it's not brittle like grey iron, it can bend and deform, which is what you want from something vehicles will be driving over.

As a sewer maintenance worker, spending a lot of time in and around manholes, this is valuable life saving information. Thank you Matt! (BTW we lift these lids by hand up in Missouri 😜)

@@Steve_I When we remove them we use the hook. When we're putting them back on, more often than not we're actually lifting them.

@@kingcosworth2643 It honestly depends on the lid. We've got a few different styles of lids, some of them are about 150lbs and we usually get them with one person. The heavier ones we get two guys on. It also depends on where we are compared to the frame. Some of our manholes are 5+ ft out of the ground, so those we obviously get extra hands on.

I recently acquired a Keltec P50 and I had the same malfunction when I first broke them in. I honestly believe the feeding issue is due to the mag itself… as it happened with each brand new mag. I haven’t experienced any other issues.
