Dr. Charles Floyd, a University of Georgia economist, notes the early history of roads in Georgia. Ludowici residents Harry Chapman, Mrs. Virgil Nail, Sammy Stapleton, and Robert Watford Mary Worth discuss the impact of the new highways systems on small Georgia towns. Two trucking firm owners discuss how vital the industry is to Georgia’s economy. Most everything we buy and use today is delivered by truck.

My parents took us down 301 every year on vacation from 1960 to 1971. I began a lifelong fascination with auto travel and I studied maps and travel brochures of all sorts focusing on the trip from Pittsburgh to Miami. I even drew maps and took photos of every landmark along the way. I knew every turn and the nuances of every city in every state along our route. However, I have no memory of Ludowici. We stayed at a "Rainbow Courts" motel one year, but I am not sure it was in Ludowici. In Georgia, we typically stayed at The Aloha Motor Lodge in Jessup. In 1960 it was $7.00/night for our family of 4. Interesting video, none the less.

Like to see 2 future interstate highway in Georgia and both of them are in the east-west routes. My prediction will be I-18, and I-28, since we have I-10 from Los Angeles California to Jacksonville Florida, I-12 in Louisiana, I-14 in Texas (later in Louisiana and Mississippi), I-16 between Macon and Savannah in Georgia, I-20 from west of El Paso Texas to Florence South Carolina, I-22 from I-269 in Northwestern Mississippi (near Memphis Tennessee), I-24 from Cairo Illinois to Chattanooga Tennessee, I-26 from Tennessee/Virginia state line to Charleston South Carolina, I-30 from Fort Worth Texas to Little Rock Arkansas. Other proposal interstates are: I-32 from Tuscaloosa Alabama to Texarkana Arkansas, I-34 from Raton New Mexico, and I-36 from Memphis Tennessee to Chattanooga Tennessee, via Huntsville Alabama. I think we need more of 8s as of last digit of the interstate numbering system. I-18 is planning to connect from Dallas Texas to New Orleans (Lafayette) Louisiana, and there is a second I-18 which will connect from I-85 in Auburn Alabama to Myrtle Beach South Carolina, proposal I-28 could connect from Lawrenceville (northeast of Atlanta) Georgia to Columbia South Carolina, via Athens, and proposal I-38 which will connect from I-26 in Columbus North Carolina to Wilmington North Carolina, which will replace I-74, and Spur I-74, including Charlotte. North Carolina does screwed up on the few future interstate numbering system, for example: I-495 is only 4 miles long and only connected from I-440 and I-540 in Raleigh and it is not connected to I-95 which is the auxiliary route, I-74 does not go between I-40 in North Carolina and I-26 in South Carolina, and besides I-74 will never be connected between Cincinnati Ohio and I-77 at the North Carolina/Virginia state line, and I-87 should be I-46 and should connect from Raleigh North Carolina to Chesapeake/Portsmouth Virginia, since it run more of east-west then north-south direction, actually It run west southwest-east northeast direction.
