Tom Clements has had a major hand in the development of Rodgers and Love. He was Farve's QB coach late and developed Arod. Then he came out of retirement to work with Jordan and will be back next year at 72. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves
@williamhermann6635

Neither does Lafleur. He was Matt Ryan's qb coach for his only MVP season, coached Goff to one of his best seasons as OC with the Rams, resurrected Rodgers' career to 2 MVP awards, and won a playoff game with Love in his 1st year starting. When will Lafleur get his recognition? Everywhere he goes, his offensive guys thrive.

The thing is Green Bay doesn’t have a ton of distractions. A player can come here and focus on football and they usually excel. Also each player has a family from Green Bay that basically adopts them and does all there day to day needs like laundry meals etc. it helps a player to focus. These guys aren’t distracted by a huge night life scene like most places they focus on work

I like that. I think one of the biggest problems for athletes being famous and having a crap ton of money is being in these big cities, the girls, the clubs and bars. It is a distraction. I think with each of us can think that if we were going out a lot, drinking, drugs, not eating the best. Our lives are kind of crappy and messy. But then when your body needs to be at its best, getting great sleep, working out, recovering. There is not much room for error. I put this comment in a thread, but I’m also pasting here. I follow the entire NFL and I feel like I have a pretty good understanding of the Packers at this point: Glad for Packers fans & Jordan Love but remember there will be lots of game film this season & teams won’t be looking past them like McCarthy’s Cowboys. You guys choked away a chance to go to the Super Bowl & I’m not being mean by saying that. It can impact a team. Of course with my Steelers I’m used to getting 2 or 4 rings when my boys finally find a franchise QB every 30 years. 😂 It was heartbreaking watching your 2010 Packers beat us in the SB but I’d already become a big fan of Rodgers because I respect talent & the class of the Packers & their fans. Good ppl all around. So it sucked watching McCarthy have bad game plans where I thought the best QB of the 2010s, a Dan Marino with wheels, lost in the playoffs & now only has 1 ring in one SB trip. Same with Favre who I thought was only behind Steve Young for best QB of the 1990s although he had 2 SB trips losing to Elway’s 1997 Broncos. All 3 got only 1 ring. IMHO I t’s because those teams have a talent for crapping on the talent that helped them get rings. So here we are in 2024 & what do the Packers do? Release Aaron Jones who was the bridge between Rodgers & Jordan Love. Bad choice. Packers players seeing a 29-30 year old RB finish the career he started in Green Bay had to give them reason to dig a little deeper when things got ugly. That’s now gone & replaced with “play safe, if I get hurt trying to make a play they’ll cut my pay & cut my job.” A rare mistake for a classy franchise. Good luck in 2024. I really like Jordan Love & hope he becomes what we’re all thinking he is: him. If so, get the kid more than one ring. 😂 🍀👍

I think sitting for a year or two behind an elite example is helpful, but it's probably overrated as GB's key to QB success. That's really just a side benefit of drafting before you have the need, and most teams don't have that luxury. But you still have to excel at scouting or else you're just drafting a backup and then the benefits of sitting diminish. I don't think waiting trains the player better than playing. It just gives them a better chance to succeed early, which helps with confidence. As we saw with J-Love, it was really his response to the mid-season failures that righted the ship. Had he been forced to start as a rookie, his period of failure would have lasted longer, but I don't think it would have doomed him to long-term failure. In short, I think it's more accurate to say that GB's success results, not from sitting, but from scouting well and selecting a great player when you're not desperately in need.
@JustAnFootballGuy
@JustAnFootballGuy 3 ай бұрын
Nah it makes a difference sitting a guy without the pressure to perform now. Even if you tell a guy he has a few years, there is still that pressure that he knows if he bombs he is done. Confidence is key to development.

@@JustAnFootballGuyThere are many examples of successful rookie QBs, and many more QBs who started playing as rookies but took a few years to reach their peak. The sample size for your theory is so small and you've done nothing to really prove it. Again, I agree that sitting helps build confidence and situates the player for quicker success, but there's no way it's more important that actually identifying talent.
@JustAnFootballGuy
@JustAnFootballGuy 3 ай бұрын
I think you are missing the point. Sitting players is only a part of the equation. Having similar traits of QBs is something I pointed out. I also mentioned the coaches that were in place, were the same coaches when they were drafted and first became starters. The video is how the Packers keep finding Elite QBs, not sitting QBs leads to Elite QBs. There are far more examples of failed rookie starters than successful. And the point of sitting QBs is, it is a proven process, small sample size, sure. Not 100% but so far the hit rate is rather intriguing. @@dhochee

@@JustAnFootballGuyThanks for taking the time to reply. I acknowledge you did point out other factors, like arm talent, and you noted that several other recent rookie QBs have had success. While I agree that sitting for at least one year is preferred, and the reasons you provided make sense, I just don't think the evidence shows it's anywhere near as important as talent evaluation. I think excellent scouting combined with a bit of luck when it comes to QB longevity have been the main reason the Packers have succeeded where other failed. It's not watching them play: It's watching them prepare, it's hearing them in meetings and film talk about reading defenses, it's being able to ask questions like why did you do *specific thing* they don't understand. Mentorship works, that's why we've been doing it as a society forever.

Come on, man, haven’t you ever heard the expression, “Don’t count your chickens until they hatch”? Because that’s what you’re doing. Jordan Love has only been a starting quarterback for one season, and it’s not like he won the Super Bowl or anything, yet you already describe him as a Hall of Fame quarterback. And you’re so certain about it, too 😆 Like, do you do politics? You would probably report on the Iowa caucuses as, “The people of Iowa have just elected the next President of the United States”. 😂 Yes, the people of Iowa elected President Huckabee and President Sanders. I’m not trying to be mean to you, though, I promise. My point is just that there’s not enough evidence to crown Jordan Love as the next Aaron Rodgers or the next Brett Favre just yet. For all we know, he could be a one-season wonder like Robert Griffin III or Blake Bortles. We’ll have to wait and see how he turns out.

Most Quarterbacks will show true colors in year 2. I see your point though, I feel it wasn’t just a stretch of play, but once it clicked it clicked. I think the Dallas game really did it for me, a great defense, that he absolutely crushed. We will see for sure next year though… I also didn’t say he was a hall of fame QB though, rather he had hall of fame level of talent. And if I didn’t say that, then that’s what I intended.

An ingredient missing from your presentation, a stable organization. How great college QBs many get drafted by a bad GM trying to mask the deficiencies of his roster so he can hang on to his job? How many have defensive head coaches who change offensive coordinators and systems without understanding how that ruins their young QB? How many get pummeled behind a bad offensive line that couldn't protect the previous QB? A key ingredient for GB's draft and development is patience because they hire good GMs and HCs.

Think you are jumping the gun here! Packers managed only to get one SB out Favre and Rodgers each! Given the nonsense over 30 years fans had to put up with and all the money they parted with was it worth it? Really should hope better from Love, since many a QB have had good 1st seasons and fell off badly after that. They went 9-8 and barely made the playoffs and who hasn't beaten the Cowboys in the last 25 years in the playoffs. They also failed to score in the 4th quarter against the 49ers. He definitely performed better than expectations in the playoffs but why was that? I am hoping Love is better than two of the most over hyped QB's in league history!

I mean it’s hard to win Superbowls and the only reason, well at least main reason they have gotten so far in the playoffs with Rodgers and Farve in those Superbowls was because of them. Hasn’t been a ton of QBs that looked really good their first year starting and fallen off. Could that happen with Love? Yes. I mean yeah they lost to the 49ers but it’s an inexperienced team.

@@JustAnFootballGuy I would agree if they hadn't gone to the playoffs so many times. Eli Manning won two without going to the playoffs nearly as many times in only 16 years. He beat Brady twice to do it! Jimmy G even has two wins in the playoffs vs Rodgers! The whole point to every season is to win the last game. Given all the accolades they have received and to have only one a piece given so many teams good enough to make the playoffs over 30 years, it just doesn't work. If its any comfort, both Steve Young and Dan Marino also are overrated compared to all the hype they got. They too had a number of good teams with Young also only with one and Marino getting blown out the only time he got there!

You're new in a glutted market so take the following as constructive. Because the market for talking NFL _is_ glutted, I always advise people to try & find something that stands out. Then again, most people don't like too much analysis & it only brings out those who contradict for the sake of it. But y'ain't saying much here. How does merely watching the ins & outs lead to success? Ridder watched Mariota most of last season. Couldn't he have learned what not to do? C.J. Stroud seemed to not need any of this. So not every one thing works for every one person. & I don't know if you wanna go in that direction ever. You brought up McCarthy/ But he's like Sean McDermott in that when he feels the pressure, he shuts out the voices of *ALL* his more rational coaches, takes over _all_ the play-calling, & because of it Dak went from being in the MVP conversation to throwing INTs like it was last season. He's been doing this For Years. None of this matters. As a former job trainer, coach etc. I find that at some point, asking people why they're doing This Thing helps them solidify in their own minds what direction they wish to go in. You don't have to answer now. You don't need to _have_ an answer now. & of course these questions are for you to ask yourself, not answer to me. Good luck!

I hear you. I make content that would appeal to a larger audience. Most people watching NFL content are not looking for in depth analysis. That being said, I'm not going to plaster garbage. What I create may not be crisp 100%, but they are my takes that have reasonable evidence and process. I point out they sat behind hall of fame QBs which makes a difference. Mariota is not elite, never was, never will, a below average QB. Ridder was not a good prospect either. Which I point out a trait that is found in all three QB's, Arm talent. It's not in depth, its not deep analysis, but thats the point. My goal is content that makes sense, sounds reasonable... NOT a new take every week like the shouty shows.. My goal is to replace those shows. Because it's ridiculous to see an "analyst" say the dolphins are winning the superbowl one week and the next week say that they are going 3-14. For me analysis, play by play, is not my area, even thoughI have knowledge, I can't beat out QB School, Brett Kollmann and Billy Stephens, etc. I can however make better, more sound content than others at an easier to consume level for the average fan that wants solid evidence at a level that makes sense.

@@JustAnFootballGuyMy preferences are all over the map, but I'm an analysis guy with insane intuition. Also, when I see BS I have to call it out. Most people _HATE that_ about me but I can't help it. Anything else is like turning a blind eye to The Problems. This applies to life as well as everything else. So I _prefer_ stuff I can learn from. But also won't refrain from discussing bigger stuff. I think I mentioned seeking a better spot for my Fields comments? Around game 4 in '22 Fields stared at a Very Open Receiver, cranked his arm, then hesitated as if he had spaced out & failed to throw it. He looked so unsteady everyone watching must have thought he'd gotten concussed. Then the Bears didn't take him into the blue tent even after the drive & the dread switched to "did they *call for him not to throw to that receiver on that - -" & then we got into a psychology debate as to whether this is Cognitive Dissonance or Daxastic Anxiety. See, the notion that a team could or would do that to a QB is mentally uncomfortable. But here's the thing: so what? What does it matter if _you_ are uncomfortable? If coaches can get away with doing this to players then Josh McDaniels & Brandon Staley, two guys whose egos are so tiny they have to constantly overcompensate by putting others down get to run the world & talented players get screwed. How do We The Fans benefit from this? *I* apparently can work this out in an instant. Well over 99% of the rest of humanity can't get past their own discomfort. So no, this isn't really the place for all of this. But if at any point in your life you contemplate studying social psychology, there's some for ya!
