How the war machine took over the Democrats w/ Dennis Kucinich | The Chris Hedges Report

Жыл бұрын

There was once a wing of the Democratic Party that stood up to the war industry. J. William Fulbright, George McGovern, Gene McCarthy, Mike Gravel, William Proxmire, and, of course, Dennis Kucinich. But that was largely decades ago. The new Democrats, especially with the presidency of Bill Clinton, became shills not only for corporate America, but the arms industry. The massive military budget, $858 billion in military spending allocated for fiscal year 2023, is an increase of $45 billion over the Biden administration's budget request, and nearly $80 billion more than the amount appropriated by Congress for the current fiscal year.
What happened to the Democratic Party? Why has it become impossible to question war and the massive expenditures on arms? Why is such questioning political suicide? Why can't a Democrat ask, especially at a time of economic hardship and huge deficits, how much we are going to divert to the war in Ukraine, which has already consumed some $60 billion? Former presidential candidate and eight-term Congressperson Dennis Kucinich joins The Chris Hedges Report to discuss the past half century of the Democrats, and how the war machine conquered the party.

@@audries5048 Yes there is, look at what China is doing. They are building all the tech of the future. The US has squandered their lead because of the defense industry. The US has a lot of technology and strategy to destroy humanity. It does not have much technology or strategy to unite people and progress humanity. We have reached a turning point where the US's investment is coming back to bite them. Now China has become the world leader. We are going to see from this point advancements from Chinese technology that outpace the US. I pray that the US takes the same road as the British Empire and befriend China. We do not need the US defense industry to turn into a divided mercenary for hire force like what happened with the Soviet Union. If it happens in the same manner, it would be very destructive for the planet as the kind of weaponry the US have is way more advanced than anything the Soviets had.

The Founders NEVER wanted the USA to EXPAND beyond it's boundaries but to mind it's own business and live peacefully and trade with other countries. i just don't like how he doesn't acknowledge that republicans have been historically anti-war up until Bush in 2005, seems like rewriting history but nonetheless the office is controlled by covert intelligence agencies and their hyper secretive specialized departments. They killed JFK and setup Nixon. Both who were Americans. Nixon even started the EPA! No doubt both main coalitions in the DNC and GOP have been taken over. Historically it has been the GOP and a small coalition of DNC members standing up against daddy warbucks. But until very recently, when we were "attacked". I just don't like how he portrays that democrats were historically anti-war. Which is why they portray the GOP as the SOLE warmonger profiteers. When it really is just obfuscation and deflection at hand. They are both bad and not voted for. No matter how much you all believe that. That wasn't always the case. But it is clear to atleast half the nation and many of those people typically vote democrat.

My heart goes out to Dennis Kicinich. He is one of the honest voices crying out in the wilderness of corporate greed that controls our government ( Dems and GOP). It is sad that Nato in the EU is so full of s***. (along with USA). It breaks my heart that we want to play the game of "The US will rule and absolutely the world". Dennis, I appreciate the pureness of your spirit and wanting the best for the United States but I think we are too far down the whole of greed and this will take us down. Don't stop because maybe one day you and the few others out here that really get it will make a difference.

That’s how I felt about tulsi in her 2020 run. Too bad democrats don’t have a real democrat policy. In my opinion biden was picked from the beginning. Look at how all the people running immediately dropped out and supported Biden. Then warren stays to split Bernie’s base enough for Biden to win. Tulsi was smeared so bad that by the end everyone thinks she is a Russian spy. It’s really terrible how democrats treat people

Greed will ultimately extinguish humanity. Trillions being squandered while populations suffer, with no accountability for those responsible. Perhaps referendums are necessary before our tax dollars are used everywhere but home.
