In this letter, Alan reads a letter describing the function and nature of witchcraft beliefs, based on his book on 'Witchcraft in Tudor and Stuart England' and living in societies which still believe in witchcraft.

Why does apmost every single anthropologist have the exact same explanation of witchcraft, literally with the same analogies. Their just parroting eachother.

James Lee, yes you are right. There is the authority and any one who disagrees or expresses an alternative viewpoint is not part of the gang and therefor not an authority. Happens in everything, archeology, medicine, religion. You cant go on to get a PhD if you dont tote the line. Sad isnt it? So much for exploration.

magic in the religious sense of miracles is really quite funny. I have often imagined priests and shamans as powerless individuals, creating power over others from pure imagination, or force of will. Does anyone else ever wonder if the Pope or archbishop of Canterbury wakes up laughing? It's like the emperor's clothes, peer pressure for consensus and status keeps this mirage from evaporating

7kurisu It is certainly hard to comprehend what in our view shall be magic when only in our minds do we ever see it. Magic in our world is extremly real yet not like that from Harry potter nor of the Lord of the rings, magic is simply element's of the universe not under a scientific understandment.

I would say that many people of authoritarian position have used that claim falsely but their were many who could use magics and complex manipulations.

He says witchcraft is like communism. What an ignorant essay as you can't learn the world's spirituality from a university in England. What an invalid essay, you've wrote here. And although psychology and witchcraft CAN be similar, they are completely different in this situation. And to say the asian areas have less of this delusion.... you have OBVIOUSLY missed a lot of research. You may have read books, but you haven't formed a valid opinion on witchcraft, something that touches every continent for many thousands of years. You are assuming at some point we "ReALizEd" that we were wrong for our entire past existence as a species. you can not learn the craft or spirituality from a university.
