We often talk about American manufacturing of tools, but what does that mean in 2024? Adam was recently invited to Husqvarna's factory and North American Design Headquarters in the Carolinas. There, Husqvarna engineers and technicians took us behind the scenes of their impressive two million square-foot manufacturing facility to follow the design, parts fabrication, and assembly of Husqvarna’s Xcite Zero-Turn Lawn Mower. Let's deep dive into the role that new technologies and processes play in modern machines made in the USA.

I'm not sure why the folks in the comments are so angry. This is pretty cool for a sponsored video. We get to see inside their factory and hear from the people responsible for making these things. Adam seems to be enjoying himself and it's an American manufacturer he's always liked. This is about as legit as it gets for a sponsored video. Man's got people to feed out here. On a side note, if You've never driven a high end Zero Turn, they really are that fun, and really do make cutting grass much less of a chore. It doesn't matter who makez the thing.

agree with all of that & wanted to add: It's nice to see Adam cover something related to a "trade" sort of job, outside of STEM. highlighting jobs like this (+ the tree cutter one) goes to show you can very much make a living without an engineering degree (& have fun doing it).

My grandpa used to work there when farming was slow. My dad and I went up to the farm a dozen or so years ago to haul off all the scrap metal to the recycler in Gwinner and I got to see all the scrap from the laser cutouts of various Bobcat arms and such. Pretty cool they can get such precise cuts through inch+ thick steel.

Tip to new landscapers with this machine. Zero turns will leave tears when you turn to fast. You have to balance the speed between both wheels in opposite directions slowly. The other easy turn is just do a 3 point turn as you would in your car.

Great sponsored piece. When I owned a house with a lawn buying a Husqvarna zero-turn was a massive quality of life improvement. I remember that my back yard went from 30-40 minutes with a push-mower to a task I could complete in approximately the runtime of Offspring's "Pay the Man." We sold the house to my older grandfather and it was actually a little TOO nimble for him. But if you're comfortable with it, you can fly through the work. (Bonus: They're a lot of fun.)

Very cool to see what robots can do these days. It was predicted that if we had not shipped manufacturing jobs to other countries there would have been more robots than we have presently. In other words, the jobs would still be disappearing, because robots work cheap. Knowledge is key. Someone has to program, run and maintain the robots. Even in Star Wars. Most folks don't even realize how many times they come into contact with robots daily. An ATM is a robot, so is a modern multi-function copier, a gas pump, a desktop scanner or even a 3D printer. They all utilize computer controlled servos, solenoids, servo-motors, electric clutches, and sensors that provide feedback, and make autonomous decisions based on what is requested of them and what those sensors tell them is going on. A self-driving mode makes a car a robot, and on and on. They are more R2D2 than C3P0, because the human body is not optimum for their tasks.

Back in March I took the advanced tech training class for my company, and at the end of the week we toured the factory and got to see pretty much every step of how hot tubs and swim spas are made. Adam would absolutely love seeing a 10 foot sheet of acrylic thermoformed into a hot tub shell. They also make their own vinyl tubing on site using a massive 20+ foot long extruder. It starts as a giant box of pellets and comes out on a roll.

Money talks my friend. It's called "paid promotion", but it sounds less damning when they call it a "sponsored video". Here's some money to make some video's that we know your large audience will watch regardless. All you have to do is pretend you're interested in our products. Some ooh, some aah and your normal child-like enthusiasm for everything and we have a deal. Cha-Ching. And here we are watching it...

Not new... They've shown things in the past that were sponsored/commercial collaborations. The things I love about this is the honesty that is showing through... They up-front state that it's sponsored, they are of course featuring things that Husqvarna wants to promote but at the same time they're doing it from a viewpoint that remains true to the channel. And the nerdy techie aspects that I think a lot of us viewers are looking for... Not just a fluff piece about how great it is, but behind the scenes that most of us will never get to experience, seeing the machines that do the work, the thinking/planning that we take for granted, the iteration that everyone, not just the DIYer has to go through to make something, etc. And then there's the sheer joy Adam displays... I don't think that I could name a high level actor that could fake the cackle Adam did when he got that concrete saw up to full speed. That was a little kid on Christmas morning!

I have owned an Ego Z6 ZTR the past three years and it’s been a boon. Honestly though the mowing is great but the fact I can attach my gorilla trailer and it acts as a runabout for the property, not burning gas or diesel is the best part. We have a lot of hills, the torque from the Electric motor just makes a huge difference. I’m glad to see Husqvarna is getting into that game as well.

Interesting to see and hear what goes into designing and building. He even mentioned smells. I imagine he's talking about the "new car" smell, as opposed to factory smells. I think orange has always been Husqvarna's color, but paired with black and I'm sure it probably attracts a certain demographic. I do not miss the sights and sounds of factories or factory work. I don't like the sound of impact wrenches, dissonant whining sounds, or that color green that I think is common in every factory that I've worked in. Also, I saw one worker have to make quite a reach a release to lower the whole mower down onto its wheels, and I could feel that in my back and muscles. He seemed young, so it probably doesn't really bother him (not yet, at least), but ergonomics/take care of your workers.
