A junk drawer planet/ dimension would be a cool idea, this has just evolved in my mind that this place could be a dumping ground for some highly advanced interdenominational species or it could be some portal loophole/ glitch that sends stuff there randomly, the premise of one mans junk being another treasure is both ironic and fitting for Rick.

I think that the reason why the characters don't change like they're supposed by the circle (Hero's journey) is because this is a series, and they rely on their characters resting after each episode. If you're telling another type of story such as a book or a movie things would be different.

@@TylerMowery this is the part i *_do_* understand. the part i *_do not_* understand is the way he came to this conclusion. why would it be wrong for someone to try to get an education and participate in sports, for example? i do not see why these attempts would be described as futile or wrong. he explicitly calls out the wish to "provide for your family" in this context (i am legitimately interested in the reasons and not trying to cause any conflict)
@TylerMowery
@TylerMowery 4 жыл бұрын
Harmon doesn’t take that position. He says Rick takes that position because Rick is this godlike character that can do whatever he wants. In the full interview Harmon expounds and says that Jerry probably has it better off than Rick, even if Rick is right in this universe in the sense that there are much bigger problems out there.

You have to write in chronological order first, then you re arrange scenes, you don’t write a non linear film any different then a linear one, the only difference is how you reveal the story

Rick actually does change in s01Ep04, or I guess maybe he just reveals himself a little more, which is just as good in my opinion. There is a very short moment before they reveal they're in a simulation within a simulation where he is tickling morty and accidentally has a vulnerable moment where he tells Morty that he loves him. I think this reveals an important aspect of Rick and his relationship with Morty that is pretty central to the show.

You break it down pretty good and it feels informative but I disagree with certain parts. I feel that the core of Rick and Morty besides Rick and Morty is sci-fi and that the humor is centrated around this not satire or cynisism or sarkasm. The jokes or the humor also almost always relies on the personality of the characters and that you understand those personalities. I dont like neither how you want to display or portrait the characters and their part in the show, one example that I feel is very important to the show about the characters are the support characters and many episodes almost completly center around these support characters and how the main characters relate to these like the Meeseeks. Also a story circle cant be applied to any project. It may work here bc first it is a tv series and secondly bc the writers probably felt that this will help the viewer feel at home when going through the episodes. So that it flows this way and isnt completly all over the place like the humor and what happens in the episodes. And sure Rick is adventurous maybe and Morty might be his anker or voice of reason and stuff like that but yeah they are first and foremost going through a process I feel through the series. I also feel that they have made the characters feel unique and that you see this first not their traits. Oh and Free Rick! I think is genius bc Rick cant be free'd mainly bc he always falls back in his own patterns and also bc there are sooo many Ricks, I dont know if thats correct but yeah. I think that You def dont nail their complex personalities anyways, that you rationalize them! Uhm also writing resources on a personal belief or view shouldnt be applied! My feelings not Rick and Morty history!

Imo, the first two seasons of Rick and Morty were the best -- almost every episode was top tier quality, whereas in later seasons the episodes were mostly average with a few great episodes. One of the reasons I think this is is that they got too meta, with Rick breaking the fourth wall way too much when in earlier seasons he only does it a handful of times.

The episodic story itself of rick and morty is absolutely atrocious. Its easy to see how contrived everything is if you take a step back. Rick and morty shines in its situational humor, concept exploration, and its subversion. If rick is so smart he should be able to make a happiness and fulfillment drug. Its more interesting to see morty struggle through life and learning. The entire story up onto this point is emotions are beyond intelligence, which is very stupid even in the real world.
