How to Adapt an LED PIR Light to Have an Override

Please note electrician Matt went back and replaced the PVC/PVC 3 core and earth with the black flex that he originally intended to use. Funny thing filming yourself your mind can spend more time worrying about the video and not the outcome. This video was all about the connection within the PIR controlled fitting and as stated Matt understands the warranty will be invalid on this fitting.
Matt shows you how to add an override to your outside PIR controlled and the connection required within the LED outside flood light (spotlight).

Just to let you know for next time. There is a light called: Diamond Tatton Slimline. This has a PIR with 4th WIRE in the 1m flex for manual override or slave. Great video 👍

If I’m wiring a security light from scratch I always wire the PIR separate to the light. Reason being when they are combined you can never angle the light at the correct angle . Hence often getting overspill light in the neighbours garden or road. Also on a new installation I always wire a override switch

Definitely will help some one out 🤔 at one stage I was stuck and tried a lot of things but could not figure it out hadn’t realised I need to get into the fitting it self to take a switch live wire

Why not getting the manual override flood light instead? They are available in tow options 3core cable & 4 core

The Ksr light fittings have a 4 core flex fitted which in includes switch line for override.

@@GSHElectrical just updating from my comment. I have a Ksr 20 watt pir light fitting on the van as stock but it is not pre flex wired and only has 3 connectors L.N.E according to instructions, I've not had the cover off to Check inside . I do however have a 30 watt Led pir light from "Diamond Led lighting" Tatton model which does have the 4 core flex fitted so pir lights for override switching are available out there as well to save altering any wiring connections in the light fittings if buying from new.

I’ve done exactly the same modification to the same robus fitting as you on my house! Why the hell, when they changed from the old halogen fittings to these modern led pir floods, didn’t they provide a 4th terminal for a switched supply? It just doesn’t make sense, a lot of these new fittings are setup with this stupid 3 terminal (or 2 terminal L/N only) configuration??

@@GSHElectrical Technically it becomes a light that is double fed on a parallel connection right? Wouldn't that damage the electronic circuit?

I wouldn't have bothered, just swap the PIRs over? In fact what I would have done is buy a flood lamp with out the PIRs and buy a stand alone PIR witch will give you the switch over ride

Who was the clients. Dwarfs. The lights were a bit low. Should of been in line with the soldier line brickwork 24:55

Most new led pir flood lights, have a override built in. If you switch the power on and off within a certain time frame they stay on. Then switch off for a certain amount of time and back on they go back into automatic mode. That's why you might see a led floodlight on after a power cut because it went on and off quickly

If it doesn’t have a switch and you want to add one this works, if you don’t have one then you can’t switch on and off.

Well no… you are wrong. The light has a timer, so when you turn the light off and on you are resetting the timer. It’s not an override. All PIR lights have done this
