How To Adjust The Knife or the blade On A Serger. Adjusting the knife on your serger allows you to increase or decrease the stitch width. When you engage or disengage the knife you control rather or not the serger knife cuts the fabric as you serge.

Really helpful tutorial. I'm struggling with my Janome machine a little. I often have the loops 'hanging over' the cut edges of my fabric but have just discovered that, if I disengage the upper knife, it doesn't seem to happen. However, what if I wish to shave off/neaten the edges whilst overlocking them? Where am I going wrong please?

It would have been better if the blade section was lighted up. Everything was in the dark and had to divine what you were doing. Explanation was excellent and I am truly grateful. Please replay your videos before posting.

I have a Singer Pro Finish? How do I disengage the knife?

I have a year old Bernina 450. It has spent more time in repair than it has in my sewing center. The problem is that the front knife keeps sliding out as I’m sewing. If you look at this knife, you will see that it has an open slit instead of a hole where the screw holds it in. This seems to be part of the problem. What else can I do? At one point it was sent off to the Bernina home office and they sent it back 13 weeks later with the knife in backwards (so that it couldn’t disengage.) Help me love my machine!

Some machines do not have that feature at the side. So, how do I disengage the scissors on my serger?

Ho there grate video. I am noticing my fabric now getting stuck between the knives and I don't know what the issue is. Also my general foot was scratched a lot so I replaced it but the knives issue not getting fixed. I thought if the knives could be dull?

@@maidashijabworld just been investigating problems and a suggestion was to check the differential setting , should be set at N for normal sewing and mine was set at 0.8, so shall check out later

Thank you so much for your tutorial. I found you because my knife lever is not able to switch to “not cutting fabric”. It is currently set for cutting the fabric. So the switch is stuck or broken. I am not able to switch it. Do you know what might the problem? I am sorry to bother you but no one posts anything regarding to this problem. Thank you.

Have you tried cleaning and oiling the machine? It's possible that build-up is preventing it from switch/lock in place.

@@LetsLearnToSew Hi, Thank you for getting back so quickly. No, I have never cleaned it but I am not sure its history. I just bought it in "Like New" condition. If cleaning and oiling could fix the problem. I will try that too. I am thinking about taking the knife off and re-install it. I am surprised no one posts a video with this type of problem. @@HopeChestJewelry i also posted a knife problem. But I didn’t get any replies. I was so frustrated that my knife kept falling out that I went to an unauthorized dealer just to get help with this. I lost the washer in the process. The dealer refused to work on my machine now that I had gone outside of Bernina and instead sent it to the Bernina home offices in Chicago. I didn’t get it back for 13 weeks. Because it was labeled “went to an unauthorized dealer”, sadly it came back unusable. The timing was off and there was still no washer on my front knife and this is the important part: they put the knife in backwards so it couldn’t disengage. I found a new repair person who has been great. He put in a washer he found, but it’s very tiny. I think this might be one of my problems. I suggest that you take out your knife and put it back in by rotating it and see if a different position helps you. Before you remove the knife, put fabric underneath and a magnet to catch the washer if it falls. I wish they would warn you about this in the manual and videos!

@@karenswerling5521 That's a great infirmation! I will need to get my head back into it again. I thought about taking it out and replace it back into the machine. I think it might trigger something. I need to clean it anyways. But what you are saying also make sense too. I bought mine on Facebook marketplace. I don't think the seller was honest. Thank u again. Happy holidays!!!
