I grew up bow hunting, fishing, target and competition shooting with all sorts of bows...I would shoot at sports shows doing trick shots. Everything you talked about regarding aiming and shooting are exactly the same thing we taught for Archery. They are essentially the same sport, just different power factors. I just came across an old Daisy F16 that needed bands so I cut up some thera bands, tied them up and figured out an anchor point/sight line and was hitting paper plates at 20 yards after about 10 minutes...not every time but 6 or 7 out of 10. It's been over a decade since I've shot either but the techniques always stay the same. Great job and thanks for the refresher!

I'm cross-dominant, right handed/left eye dominant. I discovered this after years of archery frustration. So I taught myself how to shoot left handed. Took about 5 sessions before I was shooting well with my left hand draw. It is so much easier to shoot with my dominant eye. I recommend this for everyone. What I'm trying to say is that if I can learn to shoot a bow with my "off hand", then anyone can learn to shoot a slingshot with their "off hand". Do it. It's worth it. Edit: by the way, I love the slingshot that I bought from you last year! Keep up the great work!

!! Me too - left handed/right eye dominant. I could never hit anything with a bat as a kid and with thumb "catapult"(slingshot) couldn't get any accuracy. Goodness what a revelation! ! As for switching - it shouldn't be a problem _ I drove a "stick shift" car in USA for many years changing gear with the other hand - it took about 2 weeks to get to not-thinking -about -it muscle memory (the pedals are the same thank God - lol)..then another 2 weeks to switch back when I returned to the UK. Ive just ordered a starter kit from Wasp, so starting again with the sport after a 50 year gap!...so I will try the switch from when I was ..11,12,13 Great Video Chris - thank you(found you from the Wasp website)

This is a dumb comment, but how do you even know this? Prior to slingshots, and with exception of a rifle and a shotgun a couple times back in the day, I've never shot a damn thing before so how would I qualify whether I'm right or left eye dominant?
@alandouthwaite6980
@alandouthwaite6980 9 күн бұрын
@@bobsacamano4 It;s quite easy when you know how.......stand facing forward both eyes open, point at something with your finger then close one eye.....if you're still pointing at the object then your open eye is dominant but if you are not pointing at the object then your other eye is dominant. Hope this helps

I used to shoot competitively as a kid (.22), and won a ton of high gun trophies and team awards. The emphasis on repetitive technique cannot be stressed enough. Once you determine what's making your shots accurate, do everything you can to repeat that. For me it was tilting my hand back to ensure that the slingshot frame was facing the target straight....meaning the outside face of the frame is parallel to your target. Once I figured this out I started landing shots way more consistently. The rest is just as important.......same anchor point EVERY time, and you will muscle memory it if you do it consistently and often enough. I also play guitar. Nothing is any different where that is concerned with playing very fast. Muscle memory. While preparing your shot, release your breath, don't hold it. I always aim my slingshot down, release my breath, and then raise it into position while drawing, and 99% of the time come UP to the shot as opposed to over it and DOWN to the shot. Every one will differ, but whatever works for you, make it consistent.

Great video Chris. I shoot many different frames pretty well but shoot 90mm frames best. I have learned so much in a short time shooting by shooting and assessing my shots good and bad. I started to notice that when my form was off the shot just felt wrong. I started to abort the shot and go through my shot sequence steps to correct the polroblem. Shooting paper was a big thing to help my shot diagnosis too. Paper doesn't lie. I cant wait to see if my shooting improves after I get my cataracts removed. Its always great when you drop some knowledge Chris. I appreciate it brother

I highly recommend re-watching this video to truly learn how to shoot well... watch it after you have been shooting some over a short period of time... or even a long period of time... all the good points that Chris addresses will make more sense... you will realize what you are probably doing wrong, or not completely correct ! This video helped me immensely. I get from 10% hit rate to 80%. All my shots did go consistently to right above. Turned out, I pulled the puoch closer to myself, when I tilted my head. Also I was not aware using my thumb to release the bullet. Focusing on more than one anchor point made me realize this.

I also use my thumb nail under cheekbone as an anchor point , the idea paying attention to whole length of the thumb and shaping it to the cheekbone is something I will be adding to my shooting . Thanks for the tips , all the best for 2022 .

I haven't shot a slingshot in about 30 years since I was at school, but a few years later in my teens, I got into archery for a while, until work commitments took over, but what you said about drawing and anchoring, all essential parts of archery technique, so I'm interested to see how much of that training I can carry over, and see what happens 🙏🙏🙏 Thanks for the inspiration to look into trying something new 👍👍👍

Hi Chris. A very late response but revisited this vid today whilst lying in eating a bacon sarnie !. More than superb advice, covers it all, thorough isn't the word !. Over three years of shooting I've addressed all the points you mentioned and shoot 99.9% similarly to yourself. A typical session at moment is 8 or 10 consecutives (8mm) through the bottom of a coke tin - ridged area - 47mm ish, at 12 or 13 metres, 1 to 1.8 inch grouping. A hell of a lot of work in getting there - down the woods three or four times a week every week for three years. One point I'd add, you might have mentioned it, is establish your aim, maintain your 'whole', your stance, anchor point, head position et al, maintain absolutely with no movement, 'bore in' to target and raise your 'equipment' (Catty) into your sight line, going slightly above then dropping on to target, release when your 'system' - brain says it's right to do so. Excellent stuff Chris ! !, AL.

Thanks Chris! Watching while I work. Im 6 months in and improving. Ive listened to you Wayne and many others on how to shoot better. For me......shooting paper is the way to go. I use cardboard boxes and tape paper to them. I shoot a shot and try to stay on the original hole. I can tell when my release is bad....stance is off and correct. Ive also found that shooting A LOT will help. I shoot 300-500 a week a repeat postive results. Thanks bub. Your videos got me started. 🤘••••••••••••••••••••••••🎯 🤘🙏👊Brad

Nice video! For anyone who wants to confirm which is their dominant eye (or do an interesting exercise), you can test this pretty quickly. Hold your arms straight in front of you and make a triangle with your fingers: thumbs horizontal with tips touching to form the bottom of the triangle and your index fingers forming the left and right of the triangle. You should be looking at the back of your hands. Then look at an object (like a picture on the wall) and frame it inside the triangle opening. Close one eye and then the other. You will be able to see the object with one eye and it will disappear behind your hand with the other. Whichever open eye you can see it with is your dominant eye. It is really surprising just how strong eye dominance is.

I watch as many videos on shooting as I can and your approach to shooting seems more basic and helpful than some I have seen, I have watched Bill Hayes shoot and bought one of his slingshots but he seems to be more into the long band shooting and I have tried that and have no idea how that is done. I try and shoot more to your style and stance than other shooters I have seen. This video was encouraging to me because for all the shooting I have done I still am not consistent in my shooting which amounts to frustration. I wish I had looked into this when I was much younger, but, I am having fun doing it so it is fun for me to practice and since retired I don't have anything pressing to do but piddiling anyway. Thanks for the tips and techniques.

Thank you for this video and the wealth of knowledge shared, Yes, we intermediate shooters need some coaching and this was laid out so well for what I am personally and actively working on that it seems like you read my mind. I am using a mental check list and disciplined focus to shoot paper for 50 shots every day. That bit in the end where you talk about getting worse before you get better really saved my confidence during the transition from some bad habits I developed in my posture and stance, follow through, and getting lined up for a clean line to the target consistently. I needed this video to help me iron out some wrinkles and now I am chasing some really improved accuracy for me.

im beyond a novice! i've just come across this sport and hobby and i can't wait to get into things. i've wanted to get into shooting bows but financially it just isn't viable for me for probably awhile. however the technique is nearly identical with catapult shooting. so now im hooked. i also really like how cheap it is to get involved with this hobby. i can make my own targets, i can make my own frames. i'd love to be able to purchase a good frame one day, but i just spent something like $60 on bands, band ties, 8mm shot, and i work in the trades so lumber scrap is always available. im going to make my own targets next week (with just diaper boxes!) and a frame from 1x6 scrap, just to get started! one i start practicing and working on technique and the muscle memory, i know i'll be hooked. i love golfing because of its precision and difficulty and this is going to be very similar. my goal right now is to just get started with a working frame i make myself (i can basically have infinite attempts, but it also doesn't have to be perfect). once i get started my goal will be to practice, learn, and improve. your videos are super helpful, but also very inspiring. thank you!

Hi Chris, I don’t know what you do for a living, but you sure do know how to teach. I had been shooting a catapult for a short while when I saw your video, How to aim a slingshot: Easy guide. Although I had watched other videos by great catapult shooters, that particular video of yours helped me improve greatly. I doubt if I will ever be as consistently good as you and some of your fellow catapult shooters ( I am seventy so I use aches and pains as an excuse! ) but to any one thinking of trying this out as a hobby, stick to what is taught in this video and you won’t go far wrong. One of the best 'How To' videos I've seen ! Well thought out , articulated well, No Is exterreneous BS, 5 minutes of your music etc The cheap lil 'Hunting slingshot' I scored from Greed Inc has little sight nubs,tiny plastic circles on the ends of forks ..I can't find out ANYWHERE I look it seems how to use them ..the curve of the grip makes it seem that I should draw band over them? But That seems counter intuitive to how you've been supposed to use them.. thnx from Seattle, the rat capitol of the US

Thanks for this video. It was very helpful. Like you I shot slingshots as a kid of 9-10. Only picked up slingshots again in 2016, but only shot 4-5 times in 3 years. I have now picked the hobby up again this year and was surprised how accurate I got in a matter of a 2-3 weeks. But sometimes I can be out shooting at consistently hit high and right. I could not understand why after being accurate just days before. I was so consistent that I started adjusting where I aimed. Then this weekend i was off again. After watching this video I think it is the tilt on my head. I can’t wait to get out and test that. I am also considering changing my anchor point to be closer to my eye. I currently use my earlobe. Anyway, thanks again!

Thank you very much for this tutorial! I'm also cross shooting: left hand slingshot right hand ankers. But my dominant eye is the left... Thats why I shoot my gun with left hand on trigger. I'm just beginning to practice slingshot and now I try the other hand. I'm looking forward to the results! All the best to you and greetings from Germany

Yes, it was worth it! The first four shots with the other hand hit the target. I'm not very advanced in my practice yet. I train at 13 meters on a Coke can. I hit an average of four times out of ten shots, but the spread circle has been significantly smaller since the change and I can now aim with both eyes open. Thanks again for the tips!

You made a very interesting point. When you were talking about the heat in the band when you stretch it. Just like a barrel that gets hot from rapid shooting, my question now would be, should you wait, or is there a cool down procedure for the bands to get consistent shooting in the stretch and or does the band lose its stretch/strength the hotter it gets from a more rapid shooting sequence which in turn would create more inaccuracy? Great video, thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. Peace, Mo

I'm trying to learn as much as I can about slingshots and how to aim properly so I can hunt some small game and overall have a nice skill. I've been binging all kinds of videos for the past week. Your accuracy is amazing and I aspire to reach that level one day hopefully.

Thanks Chris, brilliant video. I'm just back into shooting after about 12 years out of the game, changed the tubes to precise flat bands on my old gypsy frame I had back in the day and after a few weeks gained loads of confidence with it - enough to bag some good game for me and the kids to cook up. I am right handed with everything in life except for catapults/rifles/shotguns and playing pool?? I can only do left handed for some reason so it's good to see a video that explains about shooting other ways - it might help quite a few people out. Can't wait for the next video, teach me more mate!!!

Excellent advice Chris. I sort of had an idea what was changing my accuracy but I like to shoot different frames and ammo. Your vid has confirmed it. (I sometimes have a stiff neck) so it's the head tilt that's affecting my accuracy as my grouping is usually good. Thanks again Chris.

Great video, you've answered my problem with inconsistencies in my accuracy. I'm right handed & right eye dominant. But due to me going blind in my right eye, I shoot with the left eye and my shots are pretty much everywhere. I'll try switching hands and shoot with the catapult in my right hand and still use the left eye. Thank you.

I'm glad the video has been helpful to you pal but I wouldn't recommend that you switch to shoot under your right eye if your vision is poor in that eye.
