Hi guys! In this video I am going to go over how to apply lipstick. It's going to be a makeup tutorial in my Back to Basics playlist, so there will be more how to's coming. I'll be showing you how I prep, how and why to use a lip primer, how to line your lips and why you would want to use a clear or colored lip liner, how to apply lipstick and then how to perfect your lip line. These are ALL the steps you can use, but feel free to use the steps you find necessary. I've also added some makeup tips into the tutorials to help you out. 1. Apply Smith's rosebud salve over lips while getting ready (for exfoliating), then roll a q-tip across lips. 0:35 2. Then, use a Mac Prep + Prime lip primer (for added moisture and to prolong the wear of your lipstick). 1:00 3. Line your lips with a Urban Decay 24/7 Lip Pencil Ozone (will help with feathering or bleeding). Make sure it's well sharpened. Apply it to the perimeters of your lips. 1:21 4. If you really want to define your lip shape, then you'll want to use a colored liner. This will help the lip stick last even longer. Make sure this liner is well sharpened. You can go for a nude liner if you don't have any liner that doesn't match your lipstick. 1:41 2:00 She starts out by defining her cupid's bow. Define cupids bow.

+TheBethanyFae Thank you so much Bethany! When wearing bright or dark lip colors I like a precise line (with nudes I just slap them on haha). Use them! They are great if you have any issues with feathering. I have fine lines around my lips so unless I am wear a matte lipstick I use a liner, they are especially helpful with lip tars since they are oil based.

This tutorial was so helpful! Usually whenever I apply lipstick/lip liner my lips look uneven, duck like and messy. Thank heaps! Also, how do you wash you brush after you've used lipstick on it? I can never wash mine properly :(

+Astrid O'Brien I am so glad you found it helpful! I use the cinema secrets brush cleaner for touch up cleaning and for deep cleaning I use olive oil first to get the pigment out of the brush and then clean with a goats milk bar soap.

Is it necessary to use a lip liner if the color isn't as opaque, I have like a nice neurtalish kind of pink, its close to my natural lip color just a bit more darker/pinker.

My favourite Lipstick is Ruby Woo it Stone by MAC. I follow nearly every step you show and explain, but i really have difficulties to get my lips a nice outline. Either my toplip looks waaay overdrawn or bottom lip looks kind of droopy😞 Any tips?

I love Ruby Woo, it's such a nice red. Make sure to start filling in your lip line or underlining rather than jumping right into over drawing. A lot of this comes with practice. You'll also want to be mindful of how close you are to the mirror, take a look with your whole face in the mirror (not just lips), to make sure they look correct when you're not so focused on just the lips. I hope that helps!

Lipstick won't stick to the inside of my lip, so I end up with a line of lipstick and a line of my natural colour which you can see when I'm talking and such. :( Is there a step I can take to prevent this? It's stopping me wearing any lipstick.

+earisu Try using a waxy lip primer or try lining your whole lip when a lip liner (you can use one that matches your lip color or one that matches your natural lip color) and apply lipstick over that. You also want to make sure your lips don't have any product on them before application.

I have never used a lip sealer, I do set with a translucent powder or matching blush if I need an even longer wear time.

+Tameka Huggins I added all the steps you could use and stated why you would usethem, as always you only need to use the steps you find necessary. If you're just looking for a clean lip line and don't need to worry about feathering/long wear just use a lip brush to apply to get a clean line.

You can, the primer will just help it last longer and prepping before hand will help the application look nicer if your lips are dry.

+Heidi I think why some people are really bad at applying lipstick is they use the lipstick as though its a crayon and go around their lips with no method, making it look really messy. What I do using the thin part of the lipstick is just trace around the edges of my lips. I create an outline of my lips like I am drawing. Then I fill in the middle with the thick part of the lipstick. You could also try a lipstick pencil or a liptick brush for neather results.
