I like bigger handles. My favorite are curvy mugs that I can wrap my hand around and stick my fingers through the handle. Thank you so much for your videos. In recent years, I started using "Magic Water" for most my joins, including handles. I've been happy with the results, this far.

Hey John. I really like how you put the Minnesota on your mugs and I live down in Florida so I was gonna try that out. I don’t mean to steal your secrets but I was wondering how you make them. Do you cut them all out individually or do you have like a cookie cutter or a mold?

I definitely have a handle preference and I'm changing how I make mine as well. I have a few reasons for why I like a sturdy, thick 4 finger handle. That mug you showed where you can fit your whole hand in the handle is exactly what I like. I have tiny hands. They are not very strong. They even have early stages of arthritis (and I'm young, only 44). When I can only fit one or two fingers in the handle, my fingers are not strong enough to hold up a full mug of liquid. So the mug droops, my hand is in pain, and I need to get that second hand up to the mug before it falls. I want a meaty handle so I feel like I'm really grasping something. I also often hold my mug just by the side of the mug, sliding my 3 or 4 fingers into the handle for extra support. I can't do this with a 1 or 2 finger handle. I've noticed that potters need to make different handles to offer different options to customers, since people have such strong preferences on the subject. By the way, that was a great wake boarding video today! Awesome perspective, and loved the underwater part at first.

How long did you dry the handles before attaching?

Hey, quick question! Do you trim your pieces before the handle attachment? I feel like my pieces at the “still a little damp” phase (where I feel like I should attach handles) isn’t dry enough to trim! It seems like trimming would be challenging with a handle on. Thanks!

Hey Jon, I've got a question that's maybe not really yout hing. But worth a shot! I was wondering how I can put up some ceramic work on a wall (brick in this case). Any experience with that? What are different techniques? How much weight can it hold? Would love a video on that! :)

I think Leather hard the term I believe for when you want your piece to be when you attach your handle. At least from what I remember, it has been years since I was working in a pottery studio. I miss it a ton.

How do you dry them so they don't crack? Also, how long should they be covered to dry before you can leave them in the open air to become bone dry?

The handles are perfect. How do you figure out how to get them to the point where they are solid enough to trim the foot but not have the top too dry to add the handle, especially when trying to do a bunch at a time?

Hey Jon! I just discovered you a couple weeks ago! I am a beginner potter, and just got into a pottery club at a community centre here in Vancouver, Canada. This means I can jump in the studio whenever, which feels so exciting but intimidating because I am SO BAD right now, but I LOVE IT! Really enjoy your energy and fun in your videos. I've been binging them... kinda obsessed! Still just trying to get good at centering and making cylinders. I'm currently working with a reddish clay - Navajo clay - it stains your hands. Any tips on how to get it off your hands easy? I'm also an actor, so need my hands to stay pretty.... In order that people using my mugs may contemplate the mysteries of the universe while drinking their morning coffee, I make my handles in the shape of a question mark (rolling up a little ball on the bottom end). But seriously, I try to make handles that make sense for a particular mug. Trying to get better at adding decorative elements.

I love your videos and would like to suggest that you make mugs with hand warmers. Add the slabs to both sides so you can really get them puppies warm from your hot cocoa or whatever you preferred drink is. Lol hope you enjoy. Love from nc from my daughter and me.

Silly question, how do you prevent that bad swamp smell and black (I'm going to call it mold but I don't know what it is) on the bottom.of your slip bucket. I find if I keep my slip for more then a few days it smells when I open it and the bottom has turned black.

Learning to make mugs, so thank you for this video. I'm finding the handles are hard to get right. A side note; Men tend to hold the coffee mug handle with one or two fingers, and women like to hold the coffee mug handle with their whole hand. Watch your customers in your shops. It seems to hold true. 😊

If your mugs need trimming, do you trim before or after attaching the handle?

I like trimming mugs when they are leather hard. I find that my handles are cracking along the attachment points. Any suggestions?

I like to attach some of the handles from the inside of the top of the mug. Yes. Inside, at the top, coming out of the mug, attach the end of the handle as desired outside/bottom. YEHAW!

Heya Jon! I am a total beginner with pottery, I think you would know how to solve my problem...? I glazed a figurine, not dipped but "painted on" because I just had a little amount of that glaze. After I took it out of the oven it turned out with some spotting where the clay shows through. It's not bad looking but it bothers me. Could I just put some more glaze on the little spots and bake it again...? Or would that ruin the already baked glaze...? Google seems to give me no answers or I don't know what to look for because I lack the pottery vocabulary haha Greetings from Germany!

I like the 2 finger mugs better than the 4 finger mugs. I like a thinner handle verses a wide.

I see piles of dry glazes in the background. Do you plan to make a how to mix glaze video? I recently bought 6 colors from mayco but am struggling to get consistent results. The instructions on the bag are very vague on how much water to add.

I like extruded handles but I hate cleaning the extruder afterwards.
