I had a stroke in March of 2018 and it caused severe nerve damage on the left side of my body I lost my confidence and my memory was shot...I struggled with anxiety and depression... I forgot how to cook because I'd be afraid I might forget to turn the stove off and burn the house down... I've been watching KZfaq videos trying to mimic what I see other humans doing because I'm embarrassed to go out in public and socialize...I just wanted to let you know I really appreciate you, your voice coupled with your technique has a calming effect I feel encouraged to try go back into the kitchen again(I'll set the alarm to remind me to turn off the stove 😁)and regain my confidence you can't imagine how many lives you are touching🥰🥰

I like how she says she prefers to measure things in grams but in every Tasty 101 video she uses cups.
@ksm520
@ksm520 5 жыл бұрын
That's because everyone would be complaining about "What is that in cups I don't have a kitchen scale!!!" She even said in the newest brownie recipe tasty came out with she doesn't understand why people don't measure things by weight instead of volume already. So she goes on to use cups to make it easy for the people watching

Yeah, *she prefers to measure things in grams*. That doesn’t mean everyone else prefers grams. The videos are for other people not her, so it helps them get a bigger audience because they won’t be gettin “ 500 grams of flour, what’s that in cups?” comments

The most BASIC of all things I want to learn... HOW TO SHOP FOR "BASIC" GROCERIES. I grew up eating nothing that wasn't microwavable. Please teach me how to buy NORMAL food that I can cook super simple dishes with. I would love you forever.

SkyHighGam3r I recommend browsing the cookbook section for a Beginner's book. Look for one that has some recipes that sound good to you. They usually have sections on stocking your pantry and basic equipment. I like Good and Cheap (but I tone down the spice level).
@mirane4803
@mirane4803 5 жыл бұрын
Learn how to cook simple recipes, buy a beginners cookbook or look for them online. You can start by making a weekly menu and buying the ingredients the recipe says and well, use them through the week. You'll get better at it the more you cook and you may not be using a book or guide in a few weeks! Also remember to buy veggies and fruits weekly, but dry ingredients like pasta, salt, rice.. Can be bought once a month. Good look to anyone reading this ♥
@Julia-kr2dv
@Julia-kr2dv 5 жыл бұрын
SkyHighGam3r I recommend making a weekly plan for your meals, and then figuring out what ingredients you need for them, You gotta stick to the plan when you get to the grocery store. Basics that are great to work with would be minced beef, chicken thighs (super cheap!) rice (great to buy in bulk!), eggs, veggies you like, milk, and cheese. I suggest getting a crockpot and learning some one pot recipes! Also learning some basic skills such as making rice, or eggs are critical! Meals don’t have to be fancy. There are lots of cool easy recipes online!

What my parents do: buy a white board. Take like 20 minutes out of your Sunday to choose 7 simple 30-40 minute recipes and write them down on the whiteboard. Look through the ingredient list and write down the things you don't have. Than look through your fridge and see whether you need to replace anything you buy every day (milk, eggs, butter, those yogurt cups you bring to work for lunch) then write those down and go shopping! You save a lot of money if you meal plan this way too!

It’s also bad to overseason food as well. For example, for steak you don’t need like 10 different seasonings on it, you want to taste the actual meat itself. All you really need for steak is salt, pepper. Also butter gives steak a nice flavor. Now I want steak lol 👌🏼

I knew a lot of these. My mom and my late grandma used to bake a ton, especially before I was born, and since we didn't have much money to buy cakes for birthdays and other events we made our own. I made 3 creme caramel for my birthday party on my own when I was 11/10 based on my grandma's recipe. I got 3 burns while making it but it was a good lesson and well worth it. It's also amazing to see how the baking world has developed. I was taught old-fashioned methods of baking - from back when machines and nifty baking tools weren't available and you had to take whatever you had in the kitchen and use your bare hands. Where instead of a spatula we had an ordinary knife or a "lilleman" as we call it. I am eternally grateful for the fact I was taught to bake and cook when I was so young so I can now, when I'm 19.5, both modernise old recipes and keep traditions alive.

Kelly Williams Thanks for the recommendation. 👍🏼😊 I was just checking out their site after reading your comment and they look like they have a lot of great recipes to try and multiple pie crust recipes. I didn't see the one for Flaky Pie Crust but they still had other options like All Butter Pie Crust that looked like it would work. I'll be sure to try one of them out the next time I bake a pie. Thank you! 😄

biggest piece of advice is to keep everything as cold as you can when making pie crust. Chill your beaten ingredients in an ice bath (in a bowl within a larger bowl full of ice water), work quickly without overworking the dough. The more the butter melts, the denser and tougher the crust will be.
