Carburetor balancing tool I used in the video: amzn.to/31oDK6L

Ever wondered how to balance a set of bike carbs on a car engine? Today we answer that question. Balancing or synchronizing bike carbs on a car engine can have some unique challenges. First one is access and the second one is the tool you use.
The most common way to balance motorcycle carburetors is to use a set of vacuum gauges or a special motorcycle carburetor balancing tool like the carbtune pro. These work great on a motorcycle, but when you convert a car engine to run on bike carbs you usually won't have anywhere to connect the hoses of those tools.
I faced the same problem and found an awesome alternative. A simple little old school tool called the uni-syn. It completely eliminates engine bay access from the equation and makes balancing bike carbs on a car engine a breeze. Simply put it against the trumpet of an individual carb, watch the position of the red bobber and adjust the carburetor accordingly. Easy!

Imagine that, took me about 10 min to do 4 carbs. So it means it takes about half an hour for 12 carbs, although I think it's 6 twin carbs on those v12. Probably webers or solex or something like that. But boy I would love to be able to just hear one of those engines run.

I love your videos! I have an 86 aw11 that I'm putting Weber carbs on and I want to put a points style distributor on it so I can completely get rid of the ecu because everything will be mechanical. However, I haven't been able to find any info regarding points ignition beside converting to a older 4K distributor, but there is still a lot of confusion regarding that conversion. Hopefully you have some Info that may help myself and others who have this issue. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge of the aw11 platform with all of us on the web and I hope to see many of your amazing videos in the future!

Thank you, glad you liked the videos. Here's what I know. Older distributors that were on carbed engines have something called a vacuum advance. The higher the rpms the more vacuum is generated and thus more ignition advance. The stock distributor that is on the 4age engine will not provide advance without the stock ECU. You can get it to run without the ECU but what people did in that scenario is to "lock" the distributor at a fixed advance. In my opinion that is garbage and results in very poor performance and makes carbing seem stupid. So to be fully mechanical you will need an older distributor. What you need to figure out is how to get vacuum advance from the weber carbs to that distributor. The 4age has ben webered many times and I'm certain there's a lot of good info on the club4ag forums.

Hello, I have a very similar set up as you (r6 carbs, 3sfe Celica engine with nodiz ECU). Why not just turn the screws the same amount of turns ?
@d4a
@d4a 5 жыл бұрын
Because not every cylinder has the same compression and doesn't draw in the same amount of air. Every engine is like that which is why sets of 2 or more carbs can only be balanced on the engine and while it's running.

@d4a
@d4a 6 жыл бұрын
Stock idle of the 4age is 800 rpm or so, which means you're right. But carbs change a lot of things. The engine can run at 800 rpm with the carbs too, doesn't run too bad at all, but I kinda prefer the way it runs at 1300, runs a lot smoother :)
@JeffReeves
@JeffReeves 6 жыл бұрын
Hello 14 year old weeb, take it from a 29 year old weeb that has this same model of MR2, an idle of 800 RPM is just not going to happen. It's not uncommon for these cars to idle at 1200-1600 RPM. Mine hovers in and around this range most times. I can adjust the idle position screw to get it to around 1000 RPM after the car has warmed up, but then cold starts are rougher. Also, four cylinder engines always have a secondary force issue that causes the engine to vibrate. This becomes more noticeable the lower the RPMs; and so it can often be easier to set the RPMs higher to feel a smoother ride when idling.
