How to baseball stitch leather for flask covers.

I am sure this stitch had a name before baseballs were invented, but I don't know what it was. It is a very easy stitch similar to putting laces in a pair of shoes. You will often see it on steering wheels and other stitched on leather grips, and of course as the seams in baseballs.

Do you worry about the leather not being tight to the flask on the curved side? The first one I made had this gap where the leather bridges the curve instead of conforms to it. I've learned since that you can use cement to solve that. What are your thoughts?

I use contact cement to glue it down. After stitching it together and sliding it on the flask. I use the brush in the cement can to coat the back of the flask and the inside of the leather. If your leather cover is too tight it can be hard to get it to stay stuck. I will usually use rubber bands to hold the flask against something round to clamp the leather while the cement sets fully.
