It is a great exclusive product for starting your own landscaping business minus the normal expense. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my work buddy finally got excellent success with it.

Thank you so much for this post! I come from a hospitality background and now I am in garden maintenance and this totally resonates with me. Never bring your own or get involved in the customer's drama, you will lose professionalism in both cases. I was just talking to my son who is a personal trainer about what 'knowing your value' is today . You hit the nail on the head with this post and I will be sharing your video with him. So glad I found your to find your channel!

One thing a lot of people don’t understand is that customers honestly can care less about your problems. They are hiring you for a service and if you can’t perform your duties the customer will find someone who can. That’s why you need to charge high dollar for your time. I honestly feel that all contractors need to be at the 100 dollar per man hour mark. Until you get to 100 dollars per hour you’re really not going to have a lifestyle change. And to the people that think “ a customer will never pay that much “, your wrong and not everyone is your customer. Trust me if you prove to the market place your worth the price you want you’ll get it. But the key factor is you need to prove to your market place your worth $100 a nan hour.

Wish I watched a video like this when I got started in 2009. I can very much relate to Everything said in this vid. I've been landscaping for years. When I took it serious things changed, but when "I" changed, everything changed. From my dress code/uniform, new business cards, keeping a roster, raising prices. Yes raising prices got me more business and better clients. Been watching your vids since last year.... I love your vids and they have helped me. GOD is using you 😎

I feel like speaking with confidence, in a very matter of fact way is key to securing a customer's confidence in their decision to hire you. You can't pick up the phone talking like a basket case. You have to seem sure of yourself almost as if their particular job might not be worth your time or just insignificant in contrast to what you're used to dealing with. Not a matter of if you can do it but how far out of your way do you need to go to take care of them. Don't say any of that. Let your tone be your translator. " Hey (boiler plate) how can I help you today?" Customer: "Oh I just got some lawn clean up I need taken care of?" "Just doing some basic clean up? Dead stuff, leaves, etc? Ok let me see what we got open here... Does 10AM tomorrow work? Ok what's the address? Alright sir/ma'am we will see you at 10AM tomorrow, and get this quoted for ya! Have a good one!" *Click*

Just starting my 3rd year in the lawncare biz and this is all too true. There's this one phonecall I'll never forget when I was first starting out where I literally lost the customer over the phone by being so unprofessional. Was really groggy from just waking up and answered the phone by just saying "hello?" which resulted in the customer asking ME if I do lawncare (that's one of the 1st things they should hear from me when I answer).. asked if I can provide a specific service.. "Oh ya ya, I could do that.." - I could just hear in her tone of voice that she was thinking in her mind "I don't want this idiot anywhere near my house" before she quickly ended the conversation. That was the day I started answering the phone with my name and business's name lol

You are on point with all of the distractions in life that create professional challenges. It's hard sometimes to relate to affluent people when you've been broke all your life and have no point of reference from personal experience how to relate to spending some random amount of money that might be not only more money than you can even anticipate having anytime soon for some service you are offering that you can't imagine ever paying someone else to do. I've been doing this exact thing, living that exact scenario for most of my adult life. My biggest challenge has been my propensity to talk about things that interest me. It's something I have to be on guard about all the time because the moment I forget, I slip and go right back into that groove. The thing is, other than deeply ingrained bad habit, it's not difficult or complicated, Sanders summed it up by saying "leave the kids at home" . The point is, in a professional engagement, most customers don't care about what you know or every specification of your product or service offering. They want good value. This means the best price aka the cheapest price. We don't really want to work that hard for that business. Give them your best price and sometimes you win. Moving on. Some people want to feel confident that you understand their wants and needs and have the capability and the will to accomplish the goal of providing a solution to their problem for a reasonable price. That boils down to trust and good will. The best way to earn trust and good will is to focus on the customer, their goal and their preferences to the exclusion of every other aspect of the universe and that's it. The better you can keep the conversation on point, relative to the specific topic of what ever you are selling today, the more likely you will win the business. Minimize distracting topics that break the focus like anything about yourself as much as possible. Relationship is the key. The product/service just doesn't matter that much. People are most interested in themselves and if you focus on them they will typically like you. This is also about you, your time is limited and valuable so, you have to keep it about them specific to their project you can help accomplish and don't overwhelm them with detail. Just enough information to convey that you know what you're doing. Be thorough in your attention to detail to be sure your scope of work is defined completely, accurately and is estimated properly such that you can make an honest profit. And once you quote your price, shut up. Don't say another word until they either agree, raise an objection or ask a question. Love your stories Keith, if I could avoid telling stories like yours to customers I'd probably be a lot more successful financially in life. Fortunately, I accept my short comings and love my life, so I blow it sometimes and it's all part of the amazing experience we call life. Rescheduling is an intrical part of scheduling. There is a much worse method in my opinion. Some companies don't schedule work and just do it in an almost random order which really sucks if your representing them as a sales rep.

Good video, i think one thing the landscape and lawn care industry is missing is professionalism. There are alot of “joe blows” in this industry. It is one way we try to set ourselves. Great customer service. Its a switch we have to just be able to flip on, especially when crazy things are going on in our lives.. takes tons of practice.

Professional refers to degreed professions (understanding the term correctly may help you if you have high-end clients). Just don't refer to yourself as a pro, and you'll be ok. Professionalism refers to the level of polish you possess and that separation of self from business. Modeling is mimicry, but can be a good place to start if you need to mimic other service persons attitudes. Take some classes. Do impeccable work. Listen more than you talk. Work hard. Stick with it. Consider your image at all times. The customer is buying you, not your service. Successful people realize this, and work on their product.

I started audible because of you. I love this extremely deep content. To be honest, it is always your best. It resonates more than a review of equipment or pricing of jobs. Though, those are quite helpful, this type of content hits home to many. I had a customer guilt me on a job because her husband passed away, she had a raccoon living under the deck, blah blah you get the point. So feeling sympathy, I gave her a discount. About two weeks later, her daughter has me out. She tried to get a discount because "she had less work than her mother" . I knowing full well both jobs were equal in work and price, didn't fall for that again. The price is the price. However when you can afford to become charitable, I highly recommend doing so. Helping little old ladies who live off of social security goes a long way in word of mouth advertisement.

Hey Keith, how long did it take you to grow your business, not as how it is right now but to say that your economy life was better?

I have had the client that makes up an excuse not to pay you. Even though you done everything perfect and what they asked. They try and pull every excuse out of the book like you charge £200/day. But I pay my plumbers like £150/day. And I thought your price would drop after the first day. Blaa blaa blaa. Ends up they pay me but only like 75% of what I've charged. Do you get this? Do you bite your tongue take the money and go? Or do you fight for the rest of the money? And when do you bother about court if they are a pain?

I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I can’t close a house wash for the life of me. It’s like nobody around here is interested in it at all. I’ve gotten some driveway cleanings but when I tell people about soft washing they have absolutely zero interest. I’ve gone through home advisor, yelp, google and all I get is dead end leads that usually don’t even have to do with pressure washing or the people don’t even answer their phones. I’m starting to really stress out and these garbage leads are costing me a fortune. What am I doing wrong?

@@thesaint9276 - Wasn't commenting about you. Was referring to Jason calling an AD an add. You had a great question, and looking forward to someone with knowledge addressing your concerns. Good luck with your dilemma!
