I'll show you how to beat Meta Knight in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate by going over what moves to respect and what weaknesses to exploit. Watch out for ladder combos, mach tornado, spin drill, and more.

also, the worst MK mu is ZSS. the poll you showed is somewhat incorrect. characters such as cloud is even because hes easy to gimp, and he makes up for his short range with his fast mobility, so the FE's are mostly even.

Yup, the poll was taken from ssbu-counters;com The info there is usually accurate, but in this particular case people don't really seem to know what they are upvoting

As a Meta Knight main, I can confirm this guide is very very good Just remember, a good Meta Knight can still use platforms to carry you to the top and the best SDI is Down+Away or In

I think sonic struggles against meta knight because most of his attacks are on his body meaning he has little disjointed attacks, and he struggles to kill meaning meta knight has rage to kill him earlier

Yeah excatly sonic doesn't have a lot of range and meta knight has down air nair and back air to beat his recovery. As a sonic main myself I think the matchup is even.

Thanks guys. Sonic is like my 4th best character and I haven’t noticed any big issues against meta knight, so this one stumped me.

@@TravPlay I see the confusion. However as a meta knight player myself, I can say that sonic’s speed is a lot more comfortable to deal with as MK than as other characters, primarily because of meta knights mobility, he can kinda move around sonic like sonic does to other characters. Also, having a disjoint, however small, it is enough for a Meta knight that plays his cards right to snuff out approaches from Sonic, who needs to get up in your face to take an advantage state. Also, ladders work really well on Sonic lol

Any Meta Knight main here checking this vid so he can beat his own weaknesses? None? Also about the getting zoned out here's my opinion: Meta Knight has an anti projectile Tool The tornado ALSO he has Multijumps which allow him to avoid getting hit by annoying stuff simply by jumping also about the Ranged Characters. Usually ranged characters are those with big boi swords but big boi swords come with ending lag therefore MK can actually waot for u to do like 1 or 2 Mistakes and Get in. Idk if this helps but i feel like a MK expert smh.

You do know that projectiles make his mach tornado move slower right? You're stuck with much endlag and your opponent can punish you easily with a smash attack. You can fly over the projectiles, but thats super predictable. Meta Knight really struggles against projectile based characters like Young Link and Ness. Meta Knight really struggles to kill. His dimensional cape attack is a kill confirm, but its super predictable and very easy to punish just like al of his specials. His side B doesnt always connect. I've been a Meta Knight main since brawl and I can tell you he is not that good in Ultimate. Just my opinion btw. No hate.

@@zen2498 It can work, but its very predictable and it doesnt make up for his poor hirboxes which r mostly only active for 1 frame. His recovery is amazing, but he lacks a meteoor smash. And most of his attacks ( besides his backair) have little knockback.

just fyi, KALOS is the best mk stage. so do NOT counterpick kalos, unless you want to get timed out

MK has good match ups against a lot of characters are terrible match ups against others. Against Game and Watch he can ladder him of the top super easily and early. Against Ridley, he can ladder him anywhere under 40%. Then there's characters like Zss or Pika which are extremely difficult for him.

Overall good guide, this helped me with a few things with MK's strengths. I still find the free fall thing after specials to be really stupid. Why is that a thing?

He has one of the best recoveries in the game. Making him not go into free fall after specials would make him not just difficult to edge guard, but punishing to attempt fighting him off stage.

Idk about sonic but for k rool, as a k rool main myself, meta knight is one of k rool's top 5 worst matchups

@@TravPlay not just that Meta knight can also consistently ladder king k rool not only the top, even at the sides He can even finish the combo with side b cause how big k rool is Overall, it's sucks :(

1:20 ladder combos are not all free. ladder combos must be fast-falled in order to complete (apart from puff). di-ing in will not help if the meta knight knows how to ladder, as ladders are generally true before tumble percent. the main way to get out of ladders is through sdi, although mk can still adjust. your best bet is hoping you don't die.

in other words, the way you're laddering doesn't utilize fast falling, which will never be true. it's not even true on no di.

in fact, later you state that "sometimes it comes later". at around 44% or ish, characters begin going into tumble percent, which means they can di the combo. this actually means that at higher percents, they can *actually* fall out through di.

it's not like smash 4 anymore, where up airs just connect into each other free. mk's ladder combo is much harder to perform than simply mashing up air. you must fast fall the upairs (although not everyone, usually the third and fifth or as needed). try going into training and fast falling the third up air at the same percent in the video. this ladder is true (although it may not kill) by doing so.

@@andrewfeng7411 Some thing you said are correct, like the fact you need to SDI and not DI until tumble% (45%), but ladders don't necessarily need to be fastfalled, that depends on their position (and some character specific factors like gravity or weight), also the first ladder shown in training mode was true it just didn't kill. The second is not fastfalled on purpose and the third one doesn't seem to be true on DI out beacuse of tumble%, but it's still true on No DI. And also, SDI might not do much when you get laddered at low% but sometimes it can help you survive and/or force mk to follow you drift, which not many mks are good doing.
