A guide on how to become a base jumper in 60days
National Geographic: Adventure Wanted: The Eiger Base Jump
All the challenges Joby Ogwyn undertook were just warm-ups for his ultimate challenge: a BASE jump off the Eiger in Switzerland. Discover how to become a BASE Jumper.
Personal note:
I see this more as an infotainment show but it gives you a small idea on what it takes. Individual elements of courses can be booked however there is no full on Rooky to Base Jumper course that I am aware of. If you know of one post link below :-)

WOW! As an avid skydive instructor and former BASE jumper, I thought reading the title, that this was the most irresponsible thing I had ever read. However, having an open mind and watching it, I have to say that this is the best representation of how to go about learning BASE in the safest way! In the beginning, there is a little miss-information. This is normal for someone who doesn't know skydiving. Then to fallow your reactions and emotions, it brought back great memories of my learning experience. "I have never been scared like that" is exactly the words I would use to describe my first BASE jump. This Documentary is a GREAT representation of going from inexperience to an educated jumper! I feel the one missing part is to inform people just how much time and money were spent on the learning process, because both were EXTENSIVE!!! Those of you making uneducated comments should really go educate yourself because you just make yourself look foolish. As for wing-suit and proximity flying, he was using a beginner suit but was not educated enough in those to have done them. I think this was a very responsible approach to this topic. Joby, welcome to a new world, I hope you have been enjoying it. Don't forget the beer.

What does the skill of skydiving bring to base jumping, or wingsuit flying? I have never done any of these activities. I know they all use parachutes. I have done one tandem paraglider flight. That was ace!

Harry Bean, think of BASE as racing at Indy, or bull riding. Sure you can jump right in and do it but your chances greatly improved if you first know how to drive a car, or ride a horse. That is what skydiving is to BASE jumping

That makes me feel bad when the guy says when he was young his parents were told by his teacher that he was a dreamer and that was a bad thing. I have always taught my child, there is noting you cannot do. I remember being told what i was not allowed to do, but never, what I could do. We always need to let our children know that they can do whatever they put there mind to and want to do. The support from a parent or parents, are more beneficial than any other thing a child could ever have. Awesome video of this guy recording his journey from a normal person, to an extreme athlete you read about or see pictures of. What a inspiring video. Thanks bro for sharing your experience with the rest of us just watching and dreaming.

Loved it. Very inspiring. Maybe I'll get a chance to do some BASE yet. Surprised by some of the negative comments by the elitists. Who are you people who want to restrict it and make it harder for people to acheive their dreams? Suddenly you're an accomplished skydiver but with the attitude of those who who once upon a time, said people shouldn't skydive AT ALL. If it's my life, my choice. If I die, why is it 'your' problem? Let's all go back to 'prohibition' - yay!?!

Yes, it is about $ 2500 to get to the A licence. Then you can rent the gear for around $65-80 / day ( like at Perris Valley Skydive). Jumps are around $ 22 / jump. So a day of skdiving, like 6 jumps, would cost around $ 215. Add gas and food plus around $ 50 if you want a packer to pack for you. Under $ 300 per day. Much less for wind tunnel training and it's very worth it.

Yea this sport will make you get a bit choked up sometimes. Lots of chemicals and bonding with the best people and, unfortunately, losing some friends. Took 5 years, including more skydiving and BASE in the last year; I lost a friend that was just a state away. The day I found out was shocking and I wasn’t feeling real bad. The next day I was a crying baby for HOURS from the moment I woke up. It sucked! Getting choked up just thinking about it. I’m a skydiving instructor that looks for BASE jumps when I’m free. Gonna try to jump a huge antenna tomorrow.

Harry Bean No, but it is a little odd that he does his first base jump and within a few years he's best friends with Jeb Corliss. I do know that he was in the mountain climbing scene before he started jumping so maybe he already knew a lot of people in the jumping scene as well. His connections and previous experience made him a natural choice for this documentary, That sounds logical at least.
