Love this conversation I practice a epacouren philosophy. That chasing the external thing is not the way to a happy life sex fame money but be humble be grateful for what you have. And friendship is the most important of human endeavors. Do not live from external things to bring happiness. Especially religion government just live in your community of friends And build time for time together I am 66 And and started this practice of philosophy50 years ago it has served my life well have strayed from it a few times in life but always return to it find happiness we're you are and grown!

I was on a fentenyl IV while in the hospital for 3 days after surgical removal of my kidney and didn't feel the slightest bit "high", euphoric. NOTHING pleasant!

First you need good health, physical and mental. Without that, all other things mentioned are useless.

I agree so if you've lost your health, do whatever you can to get it back and then be satisfied! That is what I'm working on. I'm 65 and have a couple of chronic diseases. I'm figuring out how to live a satisfying life with those IF I can't overcome them. I agree with him that doing things with people is what makes us happy so we need to cultivate things to do that make that happen.

Having good mental and physical health is not really needed but does make things easier. Being able to accept things there are not in of our control and even failing in the things that are , we can still be happy, with the proper mindset, through amour fati, a stoic principle that does see adversity and your failings to external circumstances as bad but something to help us grow and learn. 😊

@@richardjaffe9972 I agree. People in difficult circumstances prove that all the time. It's not just a "stoic" principal although the ancients were pretty stoic. I personally like the catholic view of suffering. It's not wasted, it's valuable.
