Very simple project that took about an hour to make.
This video doesn't include speed up parts.. didn't take ten thousand cut of wheels, cost 2.9$ ( two bearings ) all other was surplus or scrap.

press is not a special tool? good effort but dislike misleading/click baiting titles.

You don't necessary need a press. Idea IS very simple, you don't need more than a drill and tool for cutting. Instead of using a press, make that part from a piece of angle iron. You can think by yourself too...

? why can't some of you 'people' .....just accept others, and their efforts at employing themselves ?? sure, there is alot of videos with bullshit noise (music ??)....but, their efforts are worthy of watching, if YOUR interested. JUST AVOID those titles, then, Mr Solarman..... your a poor example, of clean energy, you know ?? enjoy your day....

@ very good idea. i have an idea to convert a very good bench saw, (saw blade on motor directly) into a 2 inch wide grinding stone, maybe 8 or 10 inches, if i can find one. Probably will have to manufacture an arbor, the size for that. will 'think by myself' with ideas. Enjoy your Finland, from central Alberta Canada.

Bro, this is without question the most concise video featuring the only "No Nonsense" method to add a sander to a grinder on KZfaq! I've watched dozens, none compare to the almost "Duh" like level of simplicity in your design! Not to mention that your design is completely reversible. Beautiful work my friend, I've subscribed for more good learnings! Take care :)

I just love this.. Last time I tried making something like this work I used plywood and it was pathetic.. I really REALLY suck at thinking up ideas but I'm really good at copying them LOL I keep hoping at some point I'll build up enough skills to strike off on my own but that day hasn't come yet and I'm going to steal the hell out of this. the only problem is I don't have a convenient mounting location like you. however I am totally fine with cutting out a larger plate to mount to the 3 bolt holes the guard mounts to on the grinder body. I picked up a bunch of 2x21 belts that I've begun to start wasting on the lathe because I didn't think I'd ever make it happen. Speaking of which this also made me think of how easy it would be to make this same kind of setup for the wood lathe.. even make it mount to the tool post for drop and play action just chuck up a drive wheel and go. This is on my list!

My first attempt at using thse belts on my metal lathe was pathetic.. a skateboard wheel, a piece of angle iron, and a piece of firewood I turned round.. Every time I put tension the wheel turned no matter how hard I tightened it down.. What I needed to do was set up a proper mount.. But thats just how sad I am. What I really want to do is set up another 2x72 setup off of a normal grinder.. Like the 2x42 units that just go straight up. Sure it'll look dumb with 72 inches of belt up in the air but I have $200 in 2x72 belts that are going to waste and I need to get some knives made with them so I can recycle the money trail. Anyway the more grinders the merrier right? I have a half dozen motors and 4 bench grinders all going to waste just lying around.. (yeah I'm a packrat) And I need to learn how to fix my big boy 40 lb cast iron grinder.. it was working then it stopped for no reason.. must be a loose wire or something. Thanks for being an inspiration.. I need to get out in the garage more but I destroyed my back 3 years ago and my life is nothing but pain these days. I need a plan and a reason to get out of bed these days. otherwise I peter out. But so long as I have a solid plan I can follow through I can fight the pain and keep going..

Yep. That's one things i usually regret at the moment when i turn on the grinder. This was for the "one hour" competition, and i wanted actually make it in one hour. Had a little hurry. And, result was, that it takes less than 40 minutes to make it.

Ive got a handy tip, excellent video btw, I do lots of woodworking and want more uses for my bench grinder, here's a tip for belt tension for your diy belt sander. Near the mount where the belt sander attaches to the grinder you could weld matching metal pieces parallel to each other but perpendicular to the bar itself. And using a solid threaded screw you could make a belt tensioner.
3 жыл бұрын
Nice tip. I made a tensioner to it. You can see it here: www.homemadetools.net/forum/easy-bench-grinder-belt-sander-no-welds-lathe-73371#post135529

This video made me wish I didn't have both 1" and a 4" belt sanders. Maybe I'll make a 2" like this because I have two bench grinders and I really want a 2" belt sander but can't afford one. They are SO expensive for some reason. Thanks for the video!

Cool idea. Your not using a clamp to hold your work pieces, & just freehanding it, surprised me.. and caused me some degree of mental physical pain. You've yet to have the good fortune of picking a shattered sanding disc out of your own hand?
5 жыл бұрын
😂 Trust me, its not the first time when i use angle grinder. Why clamping workpiece would make cutting any safer? 🤔
@MRSketch09
@MRSketch09 5 жыл бұрын
@ Well clamping the work piece free's up your other hand, to get out of the way in case you mess up, if nothing else. Like, I haven't had many screw ups, using a angle grinder. BUT I messed up once, & end up picking fiber glass flap disc bits out of my left hand. It sucked to say the least.

Jesus dude, invest in a g-clamp or some trigger clamps! One handed angle grinding towards your hand pinning the workpiece down is just asking for an accident. You might feel comfortable/confident doing it this way but not a great example to set.
