I've been doing this job for the better part of 30 years but I haven't painted in like 4 so I watched this video for a quick brush up and I gotta tell ya it's been a tremendous help. Thank you.

I just painted an Altima door as well (blue metallic), and your tips helped it come out looking great. Thanks so much for all the detail you go into with your video. I am a DIY'er when it comes to this stuff and I had an autobody shop mix up a can and I bought clear coat. Even with just a spray can (Vs your professional set up) it turned out much better than I ever thought it would. Very helpful! Thanks for your tips!

A nice bold approach to how you spray your base. I wonder about some of the comments here about tiger striping, which some posters think you'll get by the criss cross angles of your base application. Are they not aware that if your gun is clean, your spray pressure is constant , your paint is reduced properly, and your technique is solid, you could spray a X across a silver hood and not see it later.

i think when you apply is a wet bed "Unpigmented Base coat" between blend Coats it create's a more noticeble Color Blend because your blending in different layers of paint which becomes more noticible by creating a Holograph Effect as the layers deepen. Its a skill i find that is perfected in a lifetime and not many master and you have it. Too many factors here. i think the best approach to this repair is to paint the entire side of the car, blend color under the tailights where the shape hides the repair and do a full panel Clear to the edge of the panel. but on the otherside it depends on how good of shape the next adjacent panel is.. if the Clear coat is mint then you can scuff it out in under an hour professionally. i say scuff as oppossed to sand because color is one thing and finish matching is another very well done video. i like to say you can only see one angle of the car at a time.

Hey thanks, I really don't have any much experience with PPG. Best advice I can give is look at the tech sheet and make sure your equipment specs match what the paint is calling for. Pressure sounds high for an LPH400 though.

Hey, thanks! I prefer the way the Glasurit clears spray, there is definitely some nice RM ones but I think it was more anytime I asked my rep about a clear recommendation he'd more often suggest Glasurit. I just started spraying them and really liked them, cost is around the same as RM too....a small fortune none-the-less..lol

I have a couple of questions. I have been painting for a living for about 3 years full time and still have a hard time with light silvers and golds. Every painter I speak to paints differently. My question is, in your video, how many turns out is your material knob, your fan, and what psi? Also what size tip in your gun?

wow that came out really well. I just got my car painted and its the same bronze color as that one, the only problem, is that the new paint came out a little darker than the old one and you can really tell when you see it as the sun shines right on it. Was that because the painter did a poor job of blending? or was it because they just used a color that was darker? They painted my car from where you painted that altima, quarter panel and rear door.

Thanks very much for the video and explaining everything. So with metallics and pearls we don't wet sand before applying the clear is that correct?
@BrandonChown
@BrandonChown 9 жыл бұрын
If you wet sand a metallic colour before the clear coat, you stand a high chance of disrupting the metallic flakes embedded in the clear coa and will end up with a flat dull spot in the metallic when cleared

I was wondering, you do not have to do inside the door jambs? so many cars in the 60's and 70's , man you would get a sandpaper like over spray, depending on the car , the color or your angle, but to just paint with out checking . amazing! one other thing, was that a shadow on the last footage? quarter looked darker?

I have damage on rear quarter panel and bumper, both will be repaired and painted, is it required and recommended to blend with rear trunk and rear door. My shop tells me they will be blending, insurance company is getting me run around. Insurance company tells me to rope off rear quarter panel window rather than removing to proper painting.

I recently did a Toyota Yaris which is silver- code 1e7 and had to paint both doors and blend into both quarter panels, the base appeared to me as if it went on well and covered well, i put about 3 solid coats on after i coated the primed areas. I was happy with how the base looked, it went on smooth, no mottle no streaking or anything. I put the clear on, 3 coats of clear and then i noticed the both the doors had major streaking in them, it has never happened to me before, I'm not sure what caused it?? it was a cheaper than normal base coat which might have been the culprit

would it be a good idea to tack in between coats or no?? i dont but when i clear i get this gritty look on my blend edges so i feel like if i tack that off the finish would look much better but am afraid to do it and not know if it ll move the metalics or not
@Bytrl
@Bytrl 6 жыл бұрын
Eddie Lugo I used to never tack rag my basecoat for fear of moving mettallics. I tried it on a light silver last week and got the cleanest full respray out of a booth ive ever gotten. The tack in between every stage including the plastic around the panels combined with observing flash off times plus wetting the floor.. wow what a difference. I got between 5 and 10 easily to wet sand out specks on the entire car, a couple light sags in areas where my lighting was dim and I had little movement around the lift and one minor gun drip on the roof. Sounds bad but overall the car looks incredible. No mottle, no patchy spots, and minimal polishing to do. And that's all in a filthy oily repair shop with my air line catching on things every 2 min. Tacking is CRITICAL to clean work.
