On the back of #mrsriderguider explaining to me that she feels she needs some extra practice, and extra know how in regards to negotiating bends, and how to make her motorbike turn, I decided to make some cornering content. This is mainly to help newer riders understand some of the better techniques for turning their bike and increasing confidence in the bends. However, it may well be very useful information and a reminder to people who are coming back to biking after a break or a refresher for more experienced riders. Keep an eye out near the end also, for a lifesaving tip that any rider will find useful. 00:00 intro 01:07 initial ride up the hill 02:11 a sign that all is not what it seems 03:49 a quick look at vanishing points and some pointers 05:55 how I lean through bends - counter leaning examples 07:12 a bit of weight transfer info 07:54 road positioning 09:32 steering techniques 10:17 rolling inertia and the giroscopic effect 10:44 counter steering 12:32 a life saving tip Thanks for watching, don't forget to subscribe, comment and give a thumbs up, it helps massively for us to grow the channel and bring more content. Cheers Neil #countersteering #motorbikeskills #riderguider #theriderguider

Mate, great video, super informative and very very professionally done. I will be practising the counter steer, and love the tip about dragging the back brake. Looking forward to the next thrilling instalment, happy miles and smiles

That was absolutely fantastic. Full of information and techniques. Only once out rode my skill level and ended in a ditch. Have been close many times over the years but very rarely nowadays. A combination of experience/old age and learning, yes even old riders that 'THINK' they know it all can still learn. Quality produced video Neil. Great stuff.

I once many years ago misread a left hander and ended up being very lucky. That’s my experience of riding fast on an unfamiliar road. Ended up on the wrong side with no vehicles coming the other way. Lay of the land doesn’t always ring true which is why them road signs are important. I only ever did that once! I still think of that moment and think how lucky I was 🤦🏻‍♂️👍🏼 THANKS MATE 🙂

I’ve had a few squiggly moments with late braking too and spoiled my turn in point of course 😝 but that one sticks in my mind 😳

I love the views around Willunga and Kuitpo.

Hi John, I still pinch myself mate. So lucky to live on the Fleurieu … Kuitpo is one of our fave places, we trail run too. Also so many little lanes and tracks to ride around. We do a nice local loop that goes around Myponga and it’s stunning.

Good tip about the vanishing points. Decreasing radius turns are the worse! Do you have cheveron signs in AUS? It's embarrassing to admit but I only recently learned what they mean in terms of spacing, etc..

Thanks MB. Yeh there are a few really good bends that tighten up on this section too, I've not quite perfected this bit of road, I'm too nervous of kangaroos to really send it on. We do have chevrons yeh, but I'm not sure many take notice of them 😁

What technique would be effective in the wet? I live in UK where it rains mostly

Hi Steve check out DJ at 1:15 in this clip kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLWKibymmNeaqY0.html , I used to ride with him. Having learned all my riding in the UK ... riding with his Uncle Nick too, smoothest cleanest lines and no cracking the throttle in bends, smooth is best, DJ was a master in the wet. Counter leaning is very effective keeping the weight higher above the contact patch, trust your tyres, keep off white lines. No push/counter steering and just go 50/50 front rear braking and increase your braking time and stopping distances to suit conditions. If you can practice all your riding in the rain and wet roads, you'll be a gun in the dry. It's all about smoothness and finesse.
