In this episode of Motive Garage,presented by Sparesbox, we begin the engine build for our R32 GT-R "Project Supercar Killer".
In this episode we assemble the Nitto Performance Engineering rotating assembly into the block at Croydon Racing Developments and cover some tip, techniques and methods used building an engine capable of well over 1000hp ( yes, we are under-rating it unlike other channels).

@J H Typical Skyline build. The bottom end is finished up, Head is done but now I'm into rewiring the main and Sub harnesses with some MilSpec garbage. A lot of the OEM harness was probably fine but it was old and crusty with no flexibility, so it bothered me.

I need an engine rebuild and always worry that I’ll choose someone who doesn’t know what they are doing. Are most places this professional and take this much care? Or is a place like this really expensive and hard to find?
@boris9331
@boris9331 3 жыл бұрын
A lot of places aren't that professional, my block was basically a fail for a 1000hp build as advised, yet the workshop went ahead with it.
@l04d83
@l04d83 Жыл бұрын
Depends. Most tuning shops offer engine builds but they can be expensive. I asked a local well known tuning shop how much would a RB26, 2.8 build cost. They stated they could do it in 1 week, but it will be around 2500 for the labour, the parts are bought by me

if the bore moves with a torque plate whats the point in measuring it again with the plate off?

To record the movement ?
@allanbigham1055
@allanbigham1055 3 жыл бұрын
@@krispykruzer yes but in the context of the video he says he's checking the work of the machinist. The machinist honed the bore with a torque plate which will distort the bore, the guy assenbling the engine is critiquing the machinist without simulating the stresses applied buy the plate. Utterly pointless. Also they should be gapping rings with the plate on as well, or gapping the rings in a controll ring that is truely round of the equivalent bore size.

It's never a bad thing to double or triple check. Regardless of how they check and set their tolerances, they have found a system that works for them. What I'm saying is that you can measure and set tolerances differently to another builder and still achieve the same result once it's all torqued and assembled, I sure you're fully aware.. just my .02c 🙂.

What's a external oil feed? Does he mean dry sump?
@AdmissionGaming
@AdmissionGaming 3 жыл бұрын
I think its semi dry sump. You retain the wet sump but use an external oil pump.
@turbotrana
@turbotrana 3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure what he means (maybe he can explain here) but I did an 'external oil feed' for a Holden 202 and it was definitely worth while. You have the main oil gallery that runs the length of the block. You tap each end of the oil gallery so essentially you have 3 oil pressure feeds into the main oil gallery. You have external lines from the oil pump/feed to the main gallery feeds. The first thing I noticed was less lifter noise on startup (I had special lifters that were very noisy before the mod but quiet right down after). This indicated that oil gets to where it is needed quicker by equalizing the pressure in the main gallery. I run very low oil pressure also (like 45psi at 7000rpm) to take load of the cam gear and don't have problems with big ends as much. I know its not a Nissan engine but the principle is there.
