Hi, I'm from Germany! I am so excited about your idea with the bigger stones. I have a PVP pipe in my bog, but I will change it to your idea with the stones. In my bogs and my bog garden I have a lot of plastic pots upside down on the ground of the bogs. It saves peat and you get a water reservoir. The capilarity holds the peat wet. Nice video and an georgeous flytrap and very nice Nepenthes.

This is awesome. I'm getting some peat immediately. I've killed 2 or 3 fly traps over the years, I prefer tropical plants, mostly ones that vine or creep. Tradescantia varieties, pothos and aloe are my favorites. But I bought another venus fly trap last year sometime and managed to keep it alive in perlite and spaghnum moss bog but those dry out so fast. I was sure my husband had killed it by forgetting to water it when I was gone, but i trimmed it, and put it in the fridge for winter. Darn thing is still alive lol, since it's out of the fridge now have to keep it alive again lol. Peat looks alot better than spaghnum. And that rock channel is brilliant!

im considering getting into temperate pitcher plants after finding out Alberta is home to S purpurea, I had no idea we had carnivorous plants here. Apparently there are a couple species of sundew here too

we also use peat and perlite

I followed your guide completely l. Only difference is that I used 3-4 inches of perlite for the water table instead of pumice. I just couldn’t find enough pumice to fill the containers that I purchased. Thanks a bunch!!!!!

I think I'll do this whenever I recover my collection again (there was an outbreak which caused me to lose pretty much half of my American carnivorous plants. Some were okay but the others are definitely going to need time to recover)

It looks like there are small holes near the top of the container. Is that to prevent Inundation while maintaining saturated soils?

Any idea of the dimensions on the pot you used for this video, or even a link to buy a couple? I've been searching all over and haven't had any luck.......

And that's why I wouldn't fill my pot all the way full your moving around too much soil you can fill it three-quarters spread out the roots a little bit more you don't have to dig so much and then you can use the water to help compress and settle the soil that's why I always recommend a drain plug even though it's a bog planter I can flush the system if anything seems out of whack after all dogs do flood out right nothing like flooding your bog and then give it a day and then training it

I love the video and I'm thinking of buying three whiskey barrels to make a bog garden. I have two questions when it comes to perlite and moss should the mixture be 20 Perlite and 80 percent moss? Should I make barrels their own species (Venus, pitcher, and sundews) or each barrel with all three plant types?

I really love the idea of using river rocks instead of PVC tubes like I’ve seen with other bog gardens, but I’ve read that some rocks could leach minerals into medium. Do you run that risk using river rocks? I really want to try this out.

Someone told me absolutely wait until dormancy to prevent root rot! I was told this after the fact. It was way over due for reporting, it broke through a 6in pot... I didn’t snap the rhizome though. I hope it doesn’t turn ugly. I’m an hour south of y’all... fingers crossed (did it yesterday)

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I love the way you designed that rock tunnel for watering. That's brilliant. My question is around creating a multi species bog and trying to make it look like it would be found in nature. Let's say I have pitcher plants, sundews and flytraps. Should I group all of the same plants together or spread them out so the layout is random? I guess they'll start to mix and mingle eventually so maybe it doesn't matter how they're planted? Maybe I should do species specific setups. :-)

I have a bunch of CPs that are currently in 4" pots. What size pot would you recommend for a bog garden and how many of those sized plants would you put in there? I'm struggling with learning pot sizing (height, width) and have consequently killed a couple of plants when I put them in too-big containers. Also, for smal plants this size, would you recommend a draining bog garden or a non-draining bog garden?

Any suggestions for here I can find a bag of pumice that big? I’ve checked my local nursery’s but haven’t found anything that big. I’m local to Sonoma county

Is it a good idea to have venus fly traps in the same bog as droseras? since fly traps require dormancy, I'm not sure if I should keep droseras at low temperature with the traps.

You mentioned they like being outside in full sun, is there an upper limit for temps they will tolerate? It gets really really hot here in the summer (occasionally over 110) and I worry they won’t make it through a heat wave

i feel as though a drainage hole between a third to two thirds of the way up on the side would be a big improvement to the design and make it a more long term installation, or this but with drainage holes and a tray

I wouldn't compress and fill my pot so full right away off the bat before planting and to I use a PVC pipe for my watering Pole straight down the center and then I can use a plastic piece of Styrofoam at the end to see if there's water in the bottom of my pot

can't you use pvc piping around the bottom so you can just pour water through a funnel and then drill holes in the pvc to let the water drain into the bottom
