never thought i'd be able to sit through an entire 18 minute video of watching a guy build a gym bench...but buff dad made it very enjoyable. if you're reading this, keep up the good work and the effort you put into making these videos is much appreciated.

***** okay with your comments and the others I won't stop now. Initially Hudson says we should do a diy thing and thought, (because of my fear of how it would be perceived), "I don't think that would work there's tons of diy stuff." I wouldn't of done it if it wasn't for the Buff Dudes. Now because of the Buff Dudes family I have my own channel diy Duke. I want to make the diy projects interesting and useful and of course build more gym equipment so thank you so much.

Mr100700551 I'm very sad that your Dad passed before you two had a chance to do those things together. So sorry. I know that when you become a father that you'll do fine because you recognize how important it is to spend time with those you love. We never know what we've got until it's gone sometimes. I personally never had a Dad that I did much of anything with, he was hardly around and when he was he was drunk a lot. So I remember telling myself if I ever become a father I'm going to try to be a good one. Thank you for sharing those personal words.

Update6 months and I'm still loving this bench. kzfaq.infoUgkxo_64lVTGMk7y4aXTPxPOcQ3YTLyQ6kYV I use it almost daily. I've gotten used to the small wobble and it's no problem at all. Love the storage, it folds right next to my weight set in the garage and hardly takes any space. I wish the covering material was a little bit tougher. I have a feeling that in a couple years it'll tear, but the bench is very well priced that I would just buy a new one.3 month usage review. Awesome bench for someone looking for compactness and storage. I did have to drill a couple holes to adjust my preferred seating position and leg bar position but that's only due to my personal preference. It's very sturdy for normal workouts, but for anyone going above 100# dumbbell press it wobbles ever so slightly. I would probably go with a fixed bench if that's the case. That being said i can accomplish 99% of my normal gym workout with this setup. Very happy with the purchase.

I just wanted to say thabk you so very much for putting up DOY videos on how to construct gym equipment. I am a craftsman (electrician to be specific) and I love building stuff! I could have gotten this assembled in due time after a process of trial and error but it helps tremendously to have someone who can give you the measurements and the step by step instructions. That saves me so much time and really helps me alot! I am watching ALL of your videos and once again...I am super thankful for you and your videos! Thank you again!

Stumbled across this by accident today, totally forgot this was the video we watched to build our gym bench a few years ago! Easy video to follow and this totally works. We’ve had it for 3 years now and it’s still solid - glad I came across this again, I’d recommend this video to anyone looking to build a bench. We happened to have a pad lying around that was the right size and we fastened that to the top as well.

Look for specials, I bought a new 300lb Barbell Cap set from Academy during the holidays for $160, it included the Olympic Bar, 2-45lb plates, 2-35lb plates and so on, which they usually retail for $209. For the amount of weight, it is quite a steal! Or you can always use Craigslist. The weights may be a bit rusted, but they'll be cheaper....Alao DIY Duke did make a DIY on creating your own weights from empty protein tubs.

Archangeldawn damn that's super cheap, well is so hard in this crap yountry of mine.... i dont mind rusty ones as long as they are actualy weights and i need at least 200kg of em so that's like 600$ for that amount of weights (cheapest deal i could find, used equipement) so you see my struggle..

I suggest making the horizontal 37" piece 42" and shortening the legs to 8" pieces. This takes the stress of the weight off of the brackets and puts it on the horizontal piece of wood. This was recommendation from a friend who is a structural engineer.
@JeffTheHokie
@JeffTheHokie 5 жыл бұрын
That would increase the twist-shear since the top is wider than the base. To me that seems like a bigger risk, especially considering the top is already directly supported by two columns.

I was thinking the same thing. As another person mentioned, making the the base longer than the top is also a good idea. I was planning on making my base 13.5" and the top 12.125". I would lower the legs to get to a target height of 17-18" overall. I was shooting for 17.5".

If your looking for cheap ways to build a bench. Get a pallet from the dump for the 4x4. You can also get plywood there most of the time. Thats how I build a home gym with my dad when I was younger living out on his farm. He had the tools and we got most things from the dump. Not the coolest thing to admit but free is free.

Dude...I just found your channel and I love it. The videos are awesome - you make it look easy and have a cool sense of humor. OK so I wanted to ask if you could do a video similar to the bench and build an adjustable bench (incline & decline) and maybe even one for a sit-up/ab bench. Keep up the great work!!!

I've been power watching a lot of your videos today, I just wish I'd seen them a few weeks ago. I just bought the wife a squat rack and bench to go with our Bowflex. I would definitely have saved some money building our own power rack and bench. You have excellent videos, and I appreciate all the great ideas and helpful tips. I'm proud to be your newest sub as of a few seconds ago. Happy New Year!!

You are so awesome! Love watching you DIYDUKE. That should be a hashtag for all the buff dudes and dudets who make your equipment! What I'd love to see is you tackle the Jacob Ladder! It's like a treadmill sort of thing but instead of running you use both hands and feet and continuously climb! It'd be so cool!
