James, I have a suggestion for you. Instead of attaching the hinged hoophouse at the top of the garden bed, make it a bit larger to cover the entire bed and rest on the earth. The larger you make the footprint on the soil, the longer you will be able to grow. It will keep the grow bed and ground from freezing.

Question --- How do you access the bed to harvest, water, weed etc?
@vtecmissle
@vtecmissle Ай бұрын
@@brandywineblue same way really, you can just tip it up, or you can bend rebar in an upside l and use as hinges by drilling into end of frame, and put one that locks on the front side.

DUDE! I literally watched your other hop house video, again, this morning! My wife and I went to the big box store to get the wood, pipe, and fittings this afternoon. I'll be teaching a group of young men (14-16 y/o) how to build one on one of my 4x8 raised beds this week. I really like this design with the stakes and support in the back. I think your other video was one of the first I saw, in regard to gardening, and I've been dreaming of building one ever since. I really appreciate the information you share. Keep it up! Give Tuck a good belly rub and a carrot for me!

Hello again........Suggestions here please.....just offering 1. Make the long sides where the hinges goes full length......This will allow hinge to screw to the cross grain of the 2x4 for strength (screwing to end grain will weaken quickly) 2. Using the long side all the way across allows the pvc caps to also be attached with a cross grain , not on the end of the 2x4....consider a small washer on screw holding pvc caps to 2x4 for added strength 3. With your larger beds additional cross brace instead of electrical tape to hold in place screw them from the inside into the hoop section. 4. great idea with weatherstripping Love your channel and your energy is contagious

You are clear, concise, detailed, and patient. The camerawork is great. Having minimal experience, I am sure that I can do this. When it comes time, I'll be watching your videos again and again. Thanks also for the math (13:55). I appreciate this video as much as the previous hoop house videos, because if I decide to invest in these metal planters ($$$), I can do this without compromising the investment. Great job on these videos. Thank you.

Great design; solid, and I like how it doesn't compromise the integrity of the Birdie's Bed. Very useful for most sitiations, and a wonderful contribution to the gardening community. My situation, calls for a bit different solution, but as I accumulate more Birdie's Beds in the future, for other crops, I'm going to keep your design in my gardening list. Thank you so much, James, for sharing your ideas, innovations, enthusiasm, and Tuck, with the rest of us. My parents, used to have a Yorkie, about half Tuck's size. Good call on using the foam weather strip to seal the bottom edge. I built your other version of double hinged hoop house on a 5x10 bed. For the frame I added a center support, metal corner brackets and wood corner bracing. It has been working really well. To prop it open I use a brick, 30" long or 50" long piece of wood depending on how much sun and the outside temperature. I need to attach a rope to to prevent it getting blown open by the wind.
