probably close to $2k . I am doing one like this now, and retail for the pan, with curb, was around 750, similar price for the drain. After that its more reasonable: 4x8 sheets of wallboard were around 80. A contractor gets a decent price break. I greatly appreciate all the how-to videos available.

I'm getting ready to start one of these in my basement. I've already done bathroom tile floors and a backsplash before. The only tricky part looks to be the pan. The plywood and lumber, PVC parts, mortar base, and a few tiles are all cheap, so I'm going to build a full size pan model and 1 foot high wall as practice first, then build the actual pan once I learn that. Better to spend a few $$ and learn on something I dont care about than find out the hard way on the real pan. With good prep, some basic hand tool, and a rented tile saw, combined with the volumes of info available such as this video (which is one of the clearest I've seen), this task should be something a moderately skilled person could accomplish.

The video doesn't show this and was/is solely geared towards the installation of the shower components. Additional work would be done to complete the install including a shower door and glass for the knee wall. For these types of installs it is common to have an additional drain in the middle of the bathroom floor to allow water to drip from the chairs, if used. Alternatively most shower would also include a door of some sort to block water from leaving out.

You noticed the same thing I did. But no joke. I just did a bathroom 10-12 ft room. Drain dead center of room. Customer wanted to freak people out.

This method allows the slope to be minimal at the entry/highest at the back. The linear drain catches any water at the entrance portion of the shower. If you have sufficient linear distance between the entry and the showering location, no/very minimal water would ever get outside the linear drain location.

I prefer to inset the subfloor and tuck the drain closest to the shower head or wherever is most aesthetically pleasing. This is an ugly design choice.
