Once the mortar bed is in place and has cured, yes, HYDRO BAN is placed over the mortar bed and onto the flange of the drain.

Hi Kevin - we're not quite sure what you are asking. Can you elaborate?

Most other drains seem to be installable without the mortar lip buildup by using either a foam spacer block, or adjustable legs that allow you to hold the drain in position while you apply the mortar once instead of twice. Sorry if I’m not explaining it well.

We're not quite sure on your question. We're not sure how you can use a PVC liner and tie it into the linear drain and set tile? We would say, no. The mud bed would have to be sloped but it has to meet the flanges of the linear drain. The waterproofing membrane (one suitable for bonding tile to it - e.g. HYDRO BAN) would be placed on top of the mud and onto the drain as stated in the instructions. A PVC liner under the mortar bed cannot be tied into the drain, and, since there are no weeps in the drain means that any water collected by the PVC liner would end up going down the hole around the drain pipe (not where we want it to go).Please email us at socialmedia@laticrete.com and we can send you a document outlining the proper materials and layers.

If there is no access from the floor below then a Rubber Coupling (i.e. Ferco) should be installed directly to the drain outlet. A 2" PVC or ABS pipe with a coupling that fits over the pipe in the floor would be installed on the other side of the Rubber Coupling. This entire assembly would be used to connect to the pipe in the floor using PVC/ABS primer and glue. (NOTE: this should be pre-fit prior to the the actual gluing of the pipe to assure a proper fit.)
