I just have to say, those clamps are awesome, I have 4 of them and I've used them to build multiple piece guitar bodies with wood glue, clamped them together, and they are strong as concrete. I bought mine at Home Depot and I fix chairs and everything with them.

For the braces that you purchased, what type of edge did you have on the glass? Seamed edge or flat edge, for example.

Have a question for you. In the past I've told you about the aquarium I'm building... 11' long x 4' tall depth is 5' viewing window will be 10' x 3'. With a 6" lap all away around. How thick should my glass be.... minimum?? Please let me know.

Thanks much. I have another question. I have looked at your glass thickness calculator, and it says I need a 12mm thick glass for a four' by 2' piece. It is square all the way around with a two foot depth in other words. Do I absolutely need that thickness because I can't find any that thick around. I can only get a hold of 8mm thick glass.

i found alot of information on glass thickness but im also making a eelatively large aquarium that isnt a standard rectangle (its going to be square). so im guess some of the rules dont apply to a square tank such as using a certain thickness for a certain height. what thickness is this glass or better yet would you help me figure what i may need.... my tank will be 48" x 48" x 13" (LxWxH). That makes it 130 gallon shallow square.

Hi Joey ..... I'm a little unsure about how to end with the silicone in the corners ? you let it dry and remove the excess and then make a reseal ? or did you smooths the silicone out with your finger immediately when you pushed the glass together ?

say how do you get the braces? I have repair a eurobraced 260 gallon tank with an end panel that is cracked. Also I need to redo a 150 gallon tank that has plastic frame broken only the plastic not the glass and I want to eurobrace and cross brace it. I need 1.) a glass panel for the 260 gallon end panel and the glass to do the eurobracing for the 150 gallon sir? Where do I source it?

That a super nice tank. Just a FYI you can go to most glass shop's and pick up old or scratched glass for super cheep. I know i use to own a glass shop. how ever cleaning Old glass to re glue it not a good thing. there is nothing that will clean the old glue out of the pores of glass. So it will stuck together for a bit but as some point it will start to leak water or pop off on a biger tank.. Thats why if you try to takr and fish tankg over 55 gallon's to glass shop thay wont fix it.

It will not be filled to its full capabilities, it will be about twelve inches of water because it is for a turtle. I should have included that it will be two feet tall when completed but with a mere twelve inches of water. If you would take the time to answer this again it would be greatly appreciated!

@matteverling6268
@matteverling6268 8 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking of doing a small scale version of your design, just with a 75 gallon aquarium. The thickness of the aquariums I would be using would be 1/4" glass. Would that thickness be enough to hold back that much water? The tank would be around 210gallons.
@matteverling6268
@matteverling6268 8 жыл бұрын
Also as far as the making the braces, did you just make them as long as the aquarium 72/73" or did you subtract the thickness of the glass so it could sit inside the aquarium?

I have a question. We are building 9' long, 2' wide, 20" high tank. Do we need to use half inch glass or 3/8 inch glass. The tank will be built inside a wood box made from old garage doors. The panels of the garage door have been removed for visiblity. The tank should be about 220 gallons. We love to watch your videos. We are also making our own canister pump from one of your other videos. We appreciate your help.

Did you use spacers on the bottom of the glass sides or just sit it right on top of silicone? Did you not have to worry about it pressing too much silicone out?
@thekingofdiy
@thekingofdiy 10 жыл бұрын
I actually just let it sit right on top. Since i used a 1.5" X 1.5" brace around the bottom, the silicone under the glass only needed to form a seal. So between the glass and brace there was a lot of silicone, there was some under the glass as well and of course some on the inside of the tank. I can say with absolute certainty that i over built this tank. I know this because i have tried to take it apart and have spent the last 2 weeks trying to do it. (Selling my house, cant fit this tank out so it has to be taken apart). In the mean time i built a pair of 225 gallon tanks to house these fish.

***** I've tried a few techniques with silicone and I find it easiest to just lay masking tape where you want you clean edge to be and use your thumb to smooth out the silicone to a nice even bead that is thin by the time it gets to the tape and wait for it a few hours and then pull the tape off. It gives you a nice clean edge without having to use a razor as suggested. Since it is not paint and will not bleed along the edge or soak through regular masking tape works fine, there's no need to use painters tape. Also, never use that one hour version. It's too thick to smooth out. The 3-8 hour stuff works fine if you are in a hurry.

lol if you can't duck it, fuck it. good work and videos thus far. i'm pleased with my road side pick up. 38 gallon with a busted end. fixed it for less than $15 it has a battle scars though. i was wondering about these glass bowing slightly. it's all 1/4" glass and the the center had a place for a plastic band on the top rim. it of course was broken. it holds water fine, tested it few a few days. anything i should address? it's 36x20x12 with the plastic rims on top and bottom. thanks.

I understand that the side braces are under the front braces so that means the front braces are hovering above the edge of the front glass about the thickness of the side braces. There has to be a gap so is that just silicone in that gap? How does that really brace the front and back panels with the rigidity of the brace being countered by the flexibility of the silicone?j
