Alex Sharphouse started with a dream, to recreate Talisman, a Fowler B6 Big Lion Road Locomotive, the ‘King of the Road’ of its era, capable of hauling loads in excess of 100 tonnes. This is an ambitious project, as the last time this engine was built was in 1931 so he was going to need some assistance along the way. With the help of good friend Guy Martin & long-time supporters Morris Lubricants the journey to recreate Talisman could begin. Watch this 6-part series to see Alex & Guy pull together this epic project. In Episode 1 of "How to Build a Steam Engine" Alex & Guy go over the initial challenge that is ahead of them. Is Guy the only celebrity on British TV that celebrates the grafter? Carry on the Fred Dibnah legend!

Whoever edits these should really look at how Fred Dibnahs documentaries were edited. Too much fucking about with music and over narration.

Wow, the first of a new project. Is there any chance we may get this series in chronological order? If not, I'll just look at the final episode........probably next in a day or two, and then catch up on the intermediate uploads in whatever order they are shown.

Anyone notice that at 0:07 the photo of men standing in front of a traction engine that two of them have hooks for hands? Steam engine work must have been terribly dangerous in the day.

Sheldon Aubut there's a lot going on in that picture ! The man with money on the right? The workers on the left but look at the furthest left workers feet, they've seen some damage.! Why otherwise would they be tied like that?? A lot going on and thats without the hooks! Love the way this is looking though !
