Great ideas but i recon the integrity of the seal between the tyre and the small amount of concrete in the bottom will fail due to cattle pushing against the flexible tyre and eventually you will get water seeping out from the bottom and causing a problem with poaching. i know a farmer who did this once, it did work but he filled the bottom up about 6" above the rim of the tyre in the bottom which had the effect of encapsulating and sealing the whole bottom. Hope it works for you Josh.

@@kdegraa yeah but, tires are onky partially rubber. I would not drink water stored in a tire unless there was no other option. Not ideal. That being said, I don't think cows live long enough to get cancer. As long as the water is flowing and not just sitting there it shoudn't be a problem.
@otov100
@otov100 2 жыл бұрын
They have a point but probably not a real concern. It would be interesting to do a lab test on the meat or milk to see how much toxin accumulated and if it was of any real concern for human consumption but I doubt it. I wouldn't want to drink tire water directly if there were other options. Having the cows drink it and then eating the cows would dilute any toxins.

I keep goldfish in my stock tanks. Best part about the goldfish is that they will eat skeeters and their larva. They can live for years in a water tank through winter and summer. The only real problem will be if the water gets too hot, then you could get a bunch of floaters ☠️.

The ball valve is a great idea but you might want to consider a curb stop instead because a curb stop is designed to be buried below grade AND take multiple on/off cycles whereas a ball valve can fail if used often or especially if there is sand. A curb stop is also specifically designed to be turned with a special fork tool. Another point... You might want to consider using a filter just to keep sand out of your ball valve and any other downstream emitters. I enjoy your work!

Bowling ball was brilliant. I am curious why you did not use water curb stop valves. Not a criticism.... They are solid brass and are designed to live underground for long periods of time, and have a designated tool to open and close them. I can see as those hand holes fill up with silt that your handle on the gate valve could corrode. Either way Josh your innovation is awesome! Thank you for sharing.

Nice job as usual. However the NIH says as others commented below - Are tires toxic? The short answer is that yes, they are. Tires contain a host of chemicals and metals that should not be in the human body. They do gradually erode and break down, leaching those chemicals into the water and the environment. Sep 2, 2021.
