I just found your channel and I work with recycled wood, mostly Pallet wood. Here on the "Big Island of Hawaii" the pallet slats are 3 1/2 to 5 1/2 inches wide and 40 inches long. And the best part is they are FREE for the taking! That means No charge for material!!!.

I get 10 out of a 6 ft, 1x12. I made the pieces 2-1/2" wide and I used a mitered top so all of the "side" pieces are the same length (easier to batch out without thinking). I did it all on my table saw with a miter gauge. I am painting mine green, red and dark red and 2 different stain colors, cherry and chestnut. I'm also offering some with the cup hook, for an ornament, and some with fairy lights attached to the back, as well as some with different styles of candle holders with LED tea lights. I saw your video on making the jig and yes, having the jig makes assembling them much easier. I don't use any nails though. It's all glue. It takes a little longer as I have to wait an extra 5-10 minutes for the glue to tack up before I can take it out of the jig, but they are solid and I don't need to fill any nail holes (which ends up being a time trade off in the end).

Hey Andy, This was a great video because you did such an excellent explaining the steps of construction. Of course, like most people I first thought of painting the trees red and green. I think that I'd paint one red and one green and sell them as a pair. In my family, there are several 'sports nuts' so I think that I will paint some of these trees in team colors (Dodgers, Notre Dame, UCLA, USC, UCONN, Lakers, Clippers, Blue Jays, Anaheim Ducks, etc.) I'm also thinking about hanging a personalized glass Christmas ball from the apex of the tree. It's easy to personalize these balls with a paint pen and the balls are available from The Dollar Tree discount store. Thanks for the video.

It may sound odd, but I've found projects like these help me to keep my shop clean. When I have scraps left from one project, I cut them to be useful for a different project and label that box. For instance a box of tree bases, a box of top left, a box of top right, and so on. It speeds up production when I get to the next project on my list. I don't have to search for material or set up cuts. I like your trees and am motivated by your video to do a few.

Hey Andy! I would paint some of these white, some sage green, but would also stain some a dark brown like walnut or jacobean. I love how these look and have a couple of questions. First, what can I use if I don’t have a stop block? Second, how will I know which side is the shoulder of the cut? Also, how far from the point of the 30 degree angle are you placing the boards when constructing the tree? Is there a way to mark the board for all the cuts before cutting them? Thanks so much for all your help! 🌲
@cedarriverwoodworking
@cedarriverwoodworking 8 ай бұрын
Great questions. If you dont have a clamp and a scrap piece to use for a stop block, you can mark every cut. The "shoulder" is the non point side. I mention how much overlap I use when assembling during the assembly portion. You can pre mark everything but you will need to add 1/8th of an inch to most of the cuts to account for the width of the blade on your saw.

Thank you for doing this video step by step. I am a beginner at woodworking, and these trees are all over FB. I thought I may give it a try. What about putting another side to it and putting a wood platform or a plate for cookies on the layers?

Colors; Red, Green,White, Stained, Natural. And think pre-drilling for eye-hook-screws for wires to hang little ornaments, or an LED light strand in the center, around the perimeter. Giving the buyer a picture of what can be done with these little trees makes them more valuable to some.

Green. Have you ever considered hosting a webinar on how to use basic tools. I would be willing to invest in the brad nailer, and a small saw, if someone can offer me training. Maybe charge $35.00 I think it would be a great hit. Thank you. Lynn Stevens.

I would stain some and possibly put a clear sealer on them if I could find some barn wood to make these with. Have you tried to build these larger, like with 2 x 4's or taller in size?
@cedarriverwoodworking
@cedarriverwoodworking 9 ай бұрын
I like them with natural stain too. 2x4's should work too. If you scale equally you could easily make them taller. If you want to just make taller, try cutting at 22.5 degrees, you'll need to make the sides longer.

I would paint them green or give the option to leave natural. Some people, like me, like to put their own touch into things like this. I am in my 60's and am just getting interested in working with wood. Do you have VERY basic videos about using these machines? My husband makes me so nervous that I'm going to cut my arm off. But he knows only a spit more than i do! Great video.
