Can't stress how important these exercises are! I spent years doing nothing but lat raises and military press for shoulders and then would go heavy on stuff like bench, dips and pull ups. Only took a few years before both my shoulders were torn and I've been struggling to get back for a long time now. Just finished up months of PT and while I've seen progress, things still just feel off. Can't bench without all sorts of bad feels. If you're reading this and you haven't screwed up your shoulders yet, make the exercises in this video a significant part of your routine and save your shoulders before its too late!

Military Presses never caused Problems for me. I've been doing them for more than 15 years now... I have to say that I started Benching 13 years after I started my Overhead Presses and what I can read is, that people who neglect Overhead Work get Problems with Bench Pressing.

I can verify that weak rotator cuffs can cause problems. Dealt with left shoulder pain for 4 months while trying different things. I never bench wide and always used triceps since the beginning. After a while, the pain got worse and I learned that my left shoulder was unstable. After 3 weeks of bamboo bar work and strengthening with dumbbells, pain is gone. I started with a 1lb plate bc it was weak and now I’m up to 10lbs.

Matt - I've been doing your Warmups for the past 8 weeks in addition to the tricep accessories , and in that time, my old 2RM's are now my 10RM's. In 8 weeks! This is after being at a year long plateau, close to giving up on heavy lifting. Your video about going really light on the dynamic effort day was a huge game changer. You helped me realize I was trying to go wayyy to heavy on the DE day. It's a hit to the ego doing speed work with 75 lbs, but I'm repping out 225 on bench for the first time in my life now, easily. didn't ever think I'd get there, so thank you so much. With that said, I just injured myself today during bench. I was doing a Max Effort day and working up to a heavy double. My pec felt a little sensitve, but this has always been the case when nearing the end of a wave and I've built up some fatigue. These are the days where I know there's a lot of fatigue built up, but I always PR. Anyways, I'm not sure if the pec is torn but it hurt like hell, and it wasn't even close to being an RPE10. It was the last warmup set. My question is, could you do a video on overcoming injury's that happen specifically on bench press? It would mean a lot. Your insight and knowledge is unparalleled in my opinion and it would really be a great help. Thanks again Matt and take care. -Jimmy *Edit I see you've already covered the topic, Currently watching it. This is why I'm a subscriber.

Matt I watched the video, realized that my grip is probably 4-5" too wide, and I'm trying to make it too much of a Pec dominant lift. Need to move my grip in and focus on developing my triceps. Never benching wide grip ever again.

I'm not a power lifter or a body builder, i'm just just an old dude who wants to stay in shape and get strong/stronger, i've been traning since my teens, back then i was training with bad technique and bad form, thats why i a had weak and injured shoulders, even with a decent bench press, now i only bench a little but i've increased my strength and size in my shoulders substantially by doing primarily standard heavy strict OHP, but importantly alternating these with standing medium wide grip strict press behind neck, which focus on front delts and stretch in the bottom and a overhead medium narrow grip, behind neck JM sort of press, which focus on triceps and lockout, these 3 shoulder press exercises are complementing each other like nothing else i've ever tried, and of course i do a bunch of laterals, by the way i've allways had strong rear delts, so i never had to priorities rear delts first in training, even after 2 hours of OHP work and side laterals, i lift more weight in rear delt exesices, and they just keep getting stronger, i used to do a lot of rotator cuff execises for prevention, but that seemed to just invite more in juries, so i fucking stoped doing all these stupid fluff execises. I'm 53 by the way and i train 3 hours a workout, because, to prevent injuries i have to do a lot of warm up sets, i know it's not a recomended thing to do, i just dont give a shit about all these standard ''rule of thumb'' recomendations about workout length, so i do what ever the fuck i want to in the gym, cause it works for me.

Thanks for this. I've never been able to get good delts--not that I want very big delts, but I like the "capped" look and have never been able to achieve it. In my younger days I'd hit the delts hard, with overhead presses, heavy laterals, etc., to stimulate growth. All I did, pretty much, was wreck my shoulder joints. Maybe these exercises will work.
@scotthayes6146
@scotthayes6146 3 жыл бұрын
The "capped" look will come from primarily side and rear delt work with an emphasis on movements that negate trap involvement. This is where the mind/muscle connection can really be beneficial. I also like to look over at my side delt at the top portion and even feel it with my other hand to make sure it's contracting optimally. www.wenningstrength.com/collections/manuals www.wenningstrength.com/collections/equipment www.wenningstrength.com/pages/online-coaching

My motto is........ When in doubt do more pulling work. Especially pulling from overhead down to ur body(pull ups chins lat pull downs and use all diff grips n width esp close stuff it gives long ROM). Pulling horizontally toward ur body would be next priorty and again same concept with grips n widths and heights in regards to line of pull if set up ona cable station. Last priorty would be upright row type of angle or pulling with a bar on the cable station put all way at the bottom and ur a fee feet back. Point is to work the weaker less used angles that we dont really get into as a modern day civilized human. Gravity and most daily stuff is pulling from below us to our body or in front of us to our body but lil overhead. Monkeys n stuff have amazing lats n backs. The more overhead pulling and pushing u do the stronger n more injury resistant u will be. Ofcourse dont ignore deadlifts of all variations

@scotthayes6146
@scotthayes6146 3 жыл бұрын
They can definitely be used in a circuit or giant set. Just be mindful that fatigue will be from a buildup of metabolites verses exhaustion of the muscle muscle fibers themselves. Nothing wrong with that from time-to-time but it's going to limit the amount of weight used and number of reps you can perform. Two things that are important for progressive overload. www.wenningstrength.com/collections/manuals www.wenningstrength.com/collections/equipment www.wenningstrength.com/pages/online-coaching

As a previous bodybuilder the rear delt was very important. Even more important than pressing movements. The goal is to have big, round cannonball delts and heavy bent over raises was the way to do it. If you didn’t do ‘em, when you stood to the side your shoulder would disappear. Now that I’m powerlifting, they’re still just as vital for the reasons Matt stated. Also, looking through the comments, am I the only pervert that picked up on Matt’s comment “hit the backside harder, if not much harder than the frontside??” 😂😂😂 Sorry, but todays culture has ruined me.
