I am a first time gardener (it's not something that I love) but I must say this video is encouraging, you make it look easy and kinda fun (the stiller, the thriller, the filler) I'll never forget. Thank you

Hi, i live in NY. Do you think it's best to put my potted Canna in the garage in the pot or to dig up the bulb as I do for my Elephant ear?

Exactly how do you test for moisture in a container while wearing gloves?
@LTraveler8311 жыл бұрын
If you grow in compost made mostly from fruits and vegetables, you don't need to add any 'food' for the plant as it will have a lot of nutrition from the compost.

My Tropicana cannas get very tall, like 6 ft. Much too large and tall for this container. The smaller varieties of cannas work better for me in containers. I use the larger leaf Tropicanas in the ground. And then I pray that the squirrels don’t eat every bloom as they are prone to do.

Bisschen viel in dem Topf. Wie sollen die Pflanzen denn wachsen? Eine Canna nimmt im Sommer schon den ganzen Topf ein.

I need a filler...idk what I want. I have cannas as my thriller... and asylum as my spiller.

Hate garden gloves, they make you ham fisted. I use surgical gloves and always remove them when Im handling the plants themselves. Same with riding I need that light contact only naked fingers can give so use fingerless to protect from the sun. Ps that canna has canna virus, a deadly rampant disease of cannas. Healthy cannas need loads of food, space and water to thrive, so they dont make good "thrillers" or plants for combined planting. Best choose the largest pot you have (preferably not wood too porous LOL) stuff it with compost (well rotted horse shit works wonders) and plant one canna in it. It will very quickly fill the pot. This pot is hopelessly over stuffed with plants and the petunias (at the very east) will rot with all the water the canna needs. If you need a decorative "spiller" use a low growing water plant or moisture loving ground cover flowers or foliage plants like the Alternantheras, "little ruby", Irsines etc, many examples which set of towering cannas very nicely and can take the constant moisture. Foliage plants work well because they act nicely (even brightly coloured ones) as a foil for the electric flower colours of most cannas. Leave the rather kitsch living bouquets to the gas station. Keep it simple and go for a natural look. You honestly don't need a thriller spiller and filler, though garden centres would of course love you for it.
