At 649 you mention asking with your hand for the head to come down after it came up. In other videos you have stressed not worrying about where the head is, just keeping the horse between two reins. Where do we make the distinction, when to ask with rein, when to not worry? BTW, I am really enjoying your videos. I think my horses like them too!

Thank you, this was very eye opening to me. I'm having my first horse (6 months together now). The hardest part for me to warm-up like is fear of spooks. Long reins = feels no control if something happens. I need to start work this fear mentally first and aim to be able ride like this in future. What a great video, thank you again ❤️

I would love to see some techniques for working with a more tense horse. In order to work towards full relaxation like in this video. I have a horse that will happily work on a loose rein - only at certain times. What techniques are helpful? Apart from getting off and lungeing or doing ground work?

Oh that was my question 🙈 so looking forward to the part 2 and 3 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. Well as I understood there are 10 min of walking and around 7 to 10 of relaxed trotting/cantering, am I correct?
@Begijnhoeve_official
@Begijnhoeve_official 2 жыл бұрын
at least 10 min walk. De rest depends of the horse. I should say as long as the horse need but as short as possible so the horse does not get tired to get to the working fase 😎

How would I help my horse to find his own balance in the canter? I’m constantly regulating it (which I know is inevitable, but it seems he just usually can’t keep the canter without me helping a lot every stride). He is 6yrs old with two years experience under saddle, and we’re entering dressage training. He has built a lot of muscle so far and is getting stronger. He can go around in a round frame at every gait. He can hold himself in both a stretched and compressed frame in the walk and trot, but if he extends his frame in the canter, he loses his balance and breaks. Any advice? I’d love to see a video on this!

Hello :) I was looking again at this beautiful video and wish to ask: isnt the horse invited to shift his weight on the forehands too much? Isn't it depending on the conformation of the horse as well? I am so confused as there are so many different opinions for this type of warm up :) Thank you so so much 🐎🐴🎠🙏🙏🙏

I understand about the importance of warming a horse up with a long stretched neck. But isn't this horse too low? How do you warm up a horse with a stretched neck without putting him too much on the forehand? Thank you

My horse is a 10 yr old off track thoroughbred so relaxation is difficult. I use a long rein and hold my hands low and wide as you are here. My question is when should I try bringing my hands up and closer? Or should I just continue as if I’m always doing “warm up” until he holds his own shape, relaxing and balancing himself? Or do I also ride him hand up and closer together?
@Begijnhoeve_official
@Begijnhoeve_official 2 жыл бұрын
Well it depends. I suggest you keep doing that until he starts to relax. However some horses find it more easy to stretch at the and of the session. So I’ll say try out and see what works for you! 🤠

My horse is also six. His right lead canter is more advanced than the left. And doing well. Once I get him on the left lead he’s doing ok but I struggle to get him to pick up the left lead. He will do walk to canter no prob to right but reluctant left. Any tips on helping with this. Also he is 18hh, does it take longer to build strength etc with bigger horse.

How do you encourage them to seek the bit? I am riding a horse who does not like the contact at all, although I try to be very soft in my hands. He is an Arabian gelding and as soon as I try to take the contact his head comes up. He is a bit better in the walk if I keep my hands very low and wide. When I also try to take the contact in the trot, he immediately wants to slow down and I struggle then to keep him active and take the contact. I found that by the end of our session he seems more willing to take the contact but I have to constantly keep asking with my inside rein for the bend. Is this ok, or nagging?

How do you correct if your horse will stretch down but insists on twisting her head? Should you worry about it and just hope with time and training she will find her own balance? Or do something else?

That usually means she is not on two reins. Maybe try to flex your horse a bit to side of the stronger rein and make her straight again. Repeat a few times
@bethbrown4670
@bethbrown4670 2 жыл бұрын
@@Begijnhoeve_official I took your advice and tried to focus on straightness and rein length. Seems she tends to do the head twisting when I let her stretch down into the long rein trot. Counter flexing seems to help some too. I feel like I give the outside rein too much.
